Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Boxing - Marcos Maidana Statement
According to Khan, Maidana is asking for too much money...
-
Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
I knew it was too good to be true for a fight with Maidana.
-
Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Khan pussied out, plain and simple.
Maidana is right. Leave the money issue alone and build some legacy.
-
Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
It's not really a balanced article, considering there is no quote from Khan. Besides nobody really know what Maidana is asking for here...
-
Jesus, everyone is jumping on Khan's balls already saying he has bottled it when nothing has been announced.
From what I've read Maidana has asked for $1m from Goldenboy. HBO have only offered $2m for the fight and you'd think Khan would be getting the bigger split as he's the champion. I'm not sure how much they'd get from the gate etc but I did read that Khan said Maidana is asking for too much. Not because he's interested in what Maidana gets, simply because there isn't enough in the pot to pay both fighters if Maidana gets $1m
If that's the truth you could argue it's Maidana pricing himself out of the fight. I doubt for a second he's scared but he may be being a little greedy.

Exactly.
Sounds like now Khan has offered Maidana the fight they've started demanding more money. Bradley's promoter, Gary Shaw, accused team Maidana of doing the same thing a few months back.
Where is the Khan article/quotes?

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Well I am pretty certain this is all bullshit/hype etc etc, I have been told on good grounds this fight is all but made. Watch this space. ;)

This is the only article I found. I didn't post it in an attempt to vilify Khan, I've been a bit of a fan of his for a long time (and well before most people hopped aboard his bandwagon). I just found it interesting that the fight looks like it might not come together. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Maidana was inadvertently pricing himself out of the fight.
-
Can't find the original article, just a response to it on this joke of a site. Dan Rafael reported it originally though.

Apologies but can't create link for above, on iPhone

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Khan deserves the bigger payday, but Maidana deserves a fair shake of the dice too. Hopefully they work it all out.

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
So does anyone have a legit source that Maidana is pricing himself out? Because that's the info from Khan's side, sorry if I'm skeptical about that.
Maidana's team just went to the WBA and asked that Khan fight him, saying that Khan has ducked him for a year now.
I'm more inclined to believe Maidana, because he wasn't the guy that wanted to fight a shot Erik Morales or JMM at 140.
BTW, can someone explained to me how you can be a "superstar" in boxing without having to fight the number 1 guy in your division or any division? Hell even Floyd and Manny (love them or hate them) worked their way up the ranks and became lineal champs, as did Leonard and De La Hoya.
Only in this new era of boxing.

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
For the record what I have been told Maidana has been offered £350,000 to fight Khan that's $561,000, that is a fair offer for a fighter that has never headlined a big fight in his life, if he is refusing this he needs to be given the stick Khan has and some more.

That's still a low ball offer. From what I just read it's usually 65/35 with the 65 for the champ and 35 for the challenger from the alphabet orgs like the WBA, WBC, IBF, etc.
HBO is putting up 2 million for the fight. So Maidana is entitled to 700k. 561k is under 30%. That's low balling someone. This is still a business.
It was usually 65/35 in their cases. Not even Floyd, Manny, or even Oscar took home more than 70% of everything like that. And Khan is no where near their level. Maidana wants a fair deal and he's entitled to it.

Low ball offer he has never earnt over $120k in any fight, he probably earnt about half of that in his last fight in Argentina. Khan is the draw here like I said Maidana is a nobody like it or lump it he is the one doing the ducking he has never topped a big bill in his life, Maidana needs to man up and realise who the cash cow is here and it aint him.
So mate giving someone there biggest pay day by three time the amount is not a fair offer? He won't earn anywhere near that fighting anyone else at 140.
Apparently he did the same in the negotiations with Bradley, like you say this is a business and with or without Maidana Khan makes money Maidana makes fuck all without Khan, he needs to man up and take this huge pay rise.
He is officially ducking Khan if this is this case.

This is why I applaud HBO they don't give a fuck about belts and either do I, maidana is worth shit mate, he is not a name and is being a bitch Khan could fight some bum from England and earn 7 figure sum and offer the opponent 5%, but no he is wanting to silence the critics and offering some unknown mandatory or interim champion who no one out of boxing circles know who he is three times the best pay day of his life?
The percentage split is a load of bollocks mate take Hatton v Collazo or Baldomir and Mayweather as examples do you think Collazo and Baldomir got the bigger percentage?? Did they fuck!! They got what there status is boxing entitled them to. ;)
If I was Khan I would tell Maidana to fuck off let him go fight the likes of Corley in some gym in Argentina with no tv and make about 20k.

Haha as if!!
Remind me who is the HBO fighter who is the fighter that fought his last fight in some gym in Argentina with no American tv? Maidana needs to realise who the man is here.
$500 k is a great deal for this guy after this fight he will only see this amount of money again in his dreams.
-
Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
I agree with Skel here. If Maidana is getting offered $561,000 to fight Khan he should jump at the opportunity. Even if he loses he will still be in demand because he is an exciting, all-action fighter and if he beats Khan (which he might), he'll be in line for some huge paydays.

Khan's offer I think is only around 150k more than Maidana's highest payday. Be fair that's what fans like me are saying. It seems like he doesn't want the fight. Oscar, Floyd, Manny and the rest of the superstars at least gave their opponents 35%.
And I really don't buy the argument that a guy isn't mainstream and only known in boxing circles therefore he deserves to be lowball. Pacquiao an ATG, at this time 2 years ago was not known in the mainstream, and if he didn't fight De La Hoya, would have stayed at 135 most likely and not know to the public. And lets say that did happen and Khan challenges him at 135, so by your logic he should also fucked over Manny too right? Because Khan was more known to the general public than Manny 2 years ago around this time.
You're right Khan could fight some feather fisted bum and get pay 7 figures without having to fight Maidana, but the boxing fans are going to bring it up constantly that his last 4 or 5 fights has been seriously cherry picking fights for a superstar that never worked his way up the ladder like the other guys like Floyd, Oscar, Leonard, Tyson, etc.
BTW, Maidana has fought twice on HBO, against Ortiz and Cayo. More impressive wins than Khan.

Nowhere near like I said previously this will be trebling his biggest ever payday, your a good guy bulldog, but you are out of touch with your figures mate. go have a little look at what pay packets Mayweather and Dela Hoya give out to such inferior oppnesnts in terms of draw.
Pac would not of been known if it wasn't for the Dela Hoya fight :vd: ( sorry mate you need to be give a VD special there, Pac was fucking huge prior to the Dela Hoya fight you for real?? The reason Dela Hoya wanted him was beacase he was p4p number 1, he was still earning 7 figure pay days prior to Oscar.
Now I will give you a few figures like I say mate your a top guy and a solid poster but your way out with your info here.
Mayweather was paid $8 million for the Baldomir fight, Baldomir was paid $1.6 so where has your 35% gone???
My maths make that 85/15 share for Mayweather and Baldomir was champ so please tell me where was the 35%??
Like it or not Khan is the draw Maidana is no one if he don't fight Khan for $500k he will be lucky to fight 3/4 fights to earn that money. ;)

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Possibly a stupid question here, but does the 2M offered by HBO go directly to the fighters camps or are there other parties who get a slice as well?
I guess what I am asking is would the payments break down to 1.5M to Khan and .5M to Maidana or are there other factors at play?

No mate that money is being offered to Golden Boy for them to host the fight it is up to them then to distribute the pay packets.

Okay I was wrong about the 35% figure when it comes to really no name fighters such as Baldomir, but to other fights such as Oscar-Pac, Oscar-Floyd, Pac-Cotto, it was still around 65/35. And really is Khan that big of a star to really be fucking over Maidana like that? He ain't Floyd, he ain't Manny, he ain't Oscar. Khan is only a little known here in the USA, he's only had 1 fight here and it was against the feather fisted Paulie.
And about Pac, he was known in boxing circles and he was huge within the community, but not known in the mainstream, especially the USA. You did talk about boxing circles and mainstream in your other post. And there is a major difference between the 2. Pac is now known mainstream because of the fight with Oscar the Golden Boy.
But you know what? Let Khan fight some random guy in the UK for 7 figures, boxing fans will criticize the guy and will still view him as a protected fighter, rightly or wrongly. And don't worry bro, I know you're a good guy and solid poster here, no hard feelings.:)

Like it or not Khan is the draw Maidana is no one if he don't fight Khan for $500k he will be lucky to fight 3/4 fights to earn that money. ;)
Mate you are totally missing the point, let me try and expain Khan can fight anyone he want and get paid 7 figures Maidana will never see 561k in a million years against anyone, Khan is the bigger draw khan is a much bigger draw how do you not understand that?
Like I say like it or not it's a FACT.
Pac wasn't mainstream before Dela Hoya :vd:your second VD special of the night, PAC WAS P4P NUMBER 1 IN THE WORLD ARE YOU SERIOUS??
Did you miss his HBO PPV fights with Marquez Morales Barrera and David Diaz??
Mate you seriously need to brush up on some of the facts here. Pac had been on HBO PPV maybe 3/4 times before the Dela Hoya fight earning 7 figure pay cheques and like I said was p4p number 1, what are you talking about?

Sorry just picking up on that about being " no name " he just beat Zab Judah undisputed 147 Champ and knocked out Gatti no name?? A lot bigger name than Maidana whose biggest night was on the undercard of a fight, theres my point Maidana is a nobody without Khan, without Khan in the picture he would make 40k back in the Argentine gym against some shite mandatory.

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Put it this way, if Khan really wants to fight Maidana that bad as you say, then why not offer a little more to fight him? As of this time he needs Maidana more than Maidana needs him. Because the boxing world still wants to see Khan in with a puncher that's a top 5 fighter in the division. I'm not the only one that has been saying Khan is cherry picking his fights to avoid big punchers since the Presscot lost. A lot of fans, fighters, and boxing writers are saying the same thing.
And about Pac, no he was not mainstream especially in the USA. Mainstream athletes are the American football ones and basketball ones mostly. Boxing is just a niche sport in this country now.
I remember Jazmerkin put it best about Pac, when he was talking about Duran a few months back, in that Duran before his victory over Leonard was very well known only in the boxing community, but exploded into the mainstream when he beat Leonard, just like Pac beating De La Hoya.

WTF Khan needs Maidana more than Maidana needs him??????????????????????????????????????????????
Wow what are you talking about? Khan is one of the hottest things in boxing weather rightly so or not mate have you banged your head tonight?
Maidana last fight was at home in some school gym against Corley in front ao no mainstream tv the same Corley who is 6-9 in his last 15 fights and got paid peanuts, Khan was headlining a HBO Live show from Madison sqaure garden??
Sorry who needs who here? :-\
FFS mate what are you talking about Pac wasn't mainstream? Mainstream what? Now he is one of the biggest sports stars in the world are you trying to say that equals mainstream??
He was pfp numbero uno and had been on HBO headlining HBO for five years and many ppv's what are you talking about he wasn't mainstream?
Your going on as if he just moved over from his home counry and Dela Hoya was his first big fight?

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Khan hottest thing in boxing, maybe in the uk, don't nobody care two shits about him here. In the US I'd say maidana and khan are known the same by the general public, which is to say not at all. If khan is demanding something like 75%-25% maidana should rightly tell him to go *uck himself in the knee, if I was maidana I wouldn't accept anything less than 40%, khan hasn't really done anything yet to warrant any bigger piece of the pie. Also doubt khan will ever become huge in the US, he's foreign, weak chin, with what is becomming a safety first attitude, that's is not endearing to most common US fans. Khan is fabricated stardom, made into a star by british media over there I guess, but what has he done yet to warrant stardom. The most legit name on his resume is kotelnik, paulie has been beat to shit by others, barrerra should never even have been in the ring at that time nor at that weight. Hmmm I never did hate khan but making me type out this post is getting me there...

Is that right?? The hatred coming about again, so tell me who is the fighter signed up with Golden boy with guaranteed 7 figure pay cheques everytime he steps in the ring??
Oh yes that's right Amir Khan ;)
Who is the fighter who HBO Want headlinging on there network that would be Amir Khan once again. ;)
Now like I said weather this is right or wrong for a fighter who hasn't proved much right now he is hot news, so take your hatred filled glasses off and look at the facts, out of the ppv fighters i.e Floyd Pac etc etc he is probably highest earning boxer in the world, I don't think to many Golden boy fighters have superior contracts to Khan do you?
So how is that not one of the hottest boxers in the world right now? If I was Khan I would do the complete opposite and tell Maidna to go fuck himself and come back when he isn't fighting bums in his ex high schools gym for peanuts.
I don't even rate Khan that highly I am looking at this from a unbiases view looking at all the permutations, and as one of my examples I showed you with the Mayweather Baldomir fight and I could name hundreds of fights, who has the belt or he should get a percentage because he is number 1 means shit! Khan is the draw Khan is the one who earns 7 figures with or without Maidana there the facts sad but true, he has offered this guy his biggest payday x3 and he aint happy so he should only get one thing imo and that is:
:fyou:

I think Armin had it right about how Khan is seen in this country, meaning the USA and I think he shares my thoughts exactly.
And about Pac, the average sports fan in the USA doesn't know who he was until he beat De La Hoya the golden boy of boxing in this country. Our mainstream sports stars are like Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Payton Manning, Serina Williams, Albert Pujols, Brett Favre, etc. Who knows maybe he was mainstream in the UK before the De La Hoya fight but not in the US. Maybe we are seeing it from the different perspective of the British and American viewpoint.
No problems at all bro, we'll just agree to disagree.

Re: Khan - Maidana in jeopardy already...
Come on guys, Skel is right here, Maidana turns down 3X his biggest ever payday and Khan is ducking him?
Why are you even trying to defend that?
Purse percentage splits are only enforced when a deal can't be reached when an alphabet is on the line. You don't get no 65/35 split if you are worth two bob ;)
