this is a silly fight. Shane should win this easily. the way people were talking about shane before the floyd fight you'd be forgiven for thinking that the man is made from solid steel
If he loses, he only has himself (and twitter) to blame. Spend way too much time on there chasing, as he likes to put it, 'ass'. ;D
I got Shane by decision or possibly a late TKO, but this is a tough fight for him against a bigger, very difficult opponent. Mora proved in his first fight with Forrest that he can cause a lot of problems.
Also does anyone else think that Ponce de Leon vs Escalante on the undercard looks like a surefire FOTY candidate?
I am guessing you mean Mora? I don't really follow twitter.
Shane might not have enough left to compete with a healthy Mora and his speed. Mora is not going to engage Mosley and let him take the fight to him. Mosley by UD
And considering Mora's long layoff. This really isn't worthy of a PPV. I just don't see the allure.
Reailiy TV star vs Future Hall of Famer. Tough call.
On the surface, that is 100% true. But, there is How wrong is Mora's style for aging Mosley? that point too.
The main problem here for Mora, one of many IMO, is that he doesn't use his jab (which is decent when he actually utilizes it). The fighters who have beaten or troubled Mosley, with a couple exceptions, have all used their jabs to great effect. Mora's awkward, but he's not all that slick and unless he really concentrates on jabbing, which he might well do for once, I think Mosley will eventually figure him out, hurt him, and stop him. However, if Mora does use his jab and focuses on Mosley's body (something he almost always does), he might be able to eek out a decision, but I doubt it. I'll probably be the only person on here
cheering for him to do it though.
Mora beating Forrest was one of the more flukey things to happen in boxing recently and it wasn't even that Mora looked very good, Forrest was just that bad. The rematch went how the first should have gone. Mora is not that good of a fighter. He has this reputation of being 'slick' but that's such bullshit. Watch Mora's last fight, he had to dig real deep to win that one and it was against a club guy with like 5 losses. The dude tired out against him. Forrest just didn't want to work for that fight and Mora used his feet, that's all he did.
Shane is faster then Forrest or Mora, he won't have any sort of weight issues and Mora. Mora isn't top 10 at this weight. This guy lost to Peter Fucken Manfredo and he hasn't fought but one fight in 2 years. He's got this fight because he fought a smart fight against a Forrest who barely even showed up. I'm all for giving a guy credit when he wins but go back in that fight and all Mora did was make Forrest miss with the jab and there was absolutely nothing following it up. That was 'off night' in boxing typified and in the second fight you could see the separation of class.
He's just not that talented of a fighter and his only advantage will be height, which he doesn't even use. I'll change my name to the Latin Snake if this guy wins, there aren't many sure things in boxing but in my mind this is one of them.
And again, there is no way he's top 10 at 154. Sergei, Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Angulo, Mosley, Foreman, Vanes and a few more all beat Mora comfortably imo. That's even if he's active, which he's not even close to being.
I can't believe this is actually a PPV either. Who would spend $49 on this?
Are you serious? This is PPV for sure? I saw the ads for it but I thought that was just for non-HBO subscribers. That sucks.
That's harsh, but it's probably pretty fair too.
I'm admittedly a fan of his, but Mora is a limited fighter. He's quick and awkward, and he has a very good chin, but he's not slick at all and he never has been. He gets hit regularly and he's struggled to make even journeymen fighters miss him on a regular basis. He also has a very low work-rate. He lost to Manfredo in their 2nd fight, he lost to Elvin Ayala, and while he deserves credit for beating Forrest and for showing a ton of heart in the rematch, when Forrest took him even half-seriously he took Mora to school. Mosley's age is the only thing which makes this a potentially competitive fight. I think Mora, if he utilizes his advantages and gives the fight of his life, might make it competitive, but I expect a Mosley TKO.
The undercard is decent at least, Escalante-Ponce De Leon and Baldomir-Alvarez (Canelo be careful! lol) but yeah, who's buying this? They had been good the past couple years with the non-frivolous pay per views but between this and Marquez-Diaz they are taking a real step back. They must put a lot of stock in the fact that Mexicans buy pay per views and Canelo has 'em talking. No bueno for boxing fans like me though who actually have HBO.
I mean I'm not saying I disagree with you all that much, maybe just to the extent you think Mora is a bad fighter. Shane should be favored, of course. I guess my main point is that Shane does better against pressure fighters and Mora isn't that. Mora can fight at middleweight though. He'll probably walk in 15 pounds heavier than Shane (Don't also forget that he dodged Jermain Taylor although that was probably a smart move). The betting line isn't that far apart either right now albeit clearly favoring Shane. Shane loses here though and that spells trouble for his career.
Where's Diane to defend him? :)
Ortiz-Harris is a tragedy waiting to happen. I hate saying that too but Vivian's legs just aren't right. I can't find the video of it but he fought a guy who was like 6-5 in some Medieval Times place and he got barely clipped in the first round and his legs went all wobbly and he fell down a couple times. I figured that was the last we would see of him because it was apparent then that something was wrong. In his next fight he got KO'd by that headbutt and that honestly should have been curtains. Buuut he still has a name and they are feeding him to Victor Ortiz and the results simply can not be good.
I wish I could find the video, it's to me almost more shocking then the fight with Matthyse because the guy had a record of like 13 fights and almost half of them losses. And it was barely a clip. Punch resistance is GONE completely.
De Leon - Escalante is the only interesting fight. Alvarez is going to expectedly beat Baldomir and Ortiz might literally kill Harris in the ring. Amat is 100% right about Harris, I remember him essentially having a seizure in the ring after tjat clash of heads. It's a joke of a PPV card.
Not really Vernon Forrest didn't look interested in the 1st fight IMO, and i said before the 2nd fight. That a motivated Vernon Forrest will dominate Sergio Mora, and he did handily give Sergio More an ass whooping.
But saying that i still think Shane Mosley will struggle somewhat.
Antonio Escalante vs Daniel Ponce De Leon, the same one that was in that thrilling FOTY candidate with Miguel Roman earlier in the year ? that should be an amazing fight.
Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris, is a terrible fight as people have mentioned before. Vivian Harris shouldn't be allowed to fight.
Saul Alvarez vs Carlos Baldomir should also be a FOTY candidate. Carlos Baldomir is one tough cookie, and Saul Alvarez fights on the inside a bit too much at times, see Jose Cotto vs Saul Alvarez. Should be a good one though.
That was here in AZ at the Desert Diamond Casino. We were all on here for our fnf and it looked bad straight away, he got a headbutt, that wasn't by any means hard and had to get stretchered out.
But before that you're right, little jabs were making him buckle a bit.

No before that Sheep, even before that fight.
Vivian Harris - Boxer
See the bout before against Octavio Narvaez, that was a fight he ended up winning but he was clipped and hurt bad! He was knocked down twice and he fell over from non-knockdowns a couple times more then that. There is a video of the fight out there somewhere. The guy was 7-4-1 and I swear he barely clipped Harris and Harris' reaction was scary. Then of course the headbutt episode.
shane will probably win, but i voted mora just because...
I hope Mosley, but worry considering he gassed after 3 against Floyd. Mora is fairly limited though, but much bigger and can be elusive.
Anyway, go Mosley!
SSM's gonna maul Mora.
Too much experience and just a well seasoned boxer who can still mix it up with the young guns..
More than anything else this is finally a fight where we can see if mora is a real fighter or is the contender show sticking us with just another so so fighter. Just a couple of months ago like every other fighter floyd has ever faced everyone thought shane was the man and capable of beating the guy and i still kinda think shane is on the same level he was before that fight. I still think the margacheato fight meant nothing and the dude that damn near lost to mayorga is the guy i expect to show up saturday. I know there are some mora fans on here so i hate to give my opinon (although i'm only on a one fight prediciton streak) but i think even that form of mosely will beat able to beat down mora. I mean it's sergio mora....if i'm wrong i'll give him his props and be glad for yall that like him. But i don't think so. I don't think anyone is watching this ppv for that fight though it's the undercard that's important. I see vic ortiz ko'ing harris, and redhead beating baldomir.
Shane should outpoint Mora.
Mora couldn't make weight and if fined 20% of his purse.
Sergio Mora three pounds over weight limit for bout against Sugar Shane Mosley - ESPN Los Angeles
Was it me or did he look a little drained at the weigh in?
Shane will batter his body and probably stop him now.
Hate it. Can't really explain it. I cant get away from it but cant lie. I have that feeling...the throw up in my mouth feeling and its not even night yet. I think and see Mora-of-less Sergio just out tap dancing and moving Mosley for dec 12 :-X .Want and hope to be wrong...its just that horrible hunch. Size, momentum and not afraid to stink out the arena style moving and slapping for Mora-of-less.
If Harris gets injured given recent history heads should roll legally...maybe beginning with his camp.
Did they agree to 157 + and penalty or did he shed it ?? Read two diffrent things two threads?
an absolute no brainer
mosley will smash him in 6, will be getting up for this because of my love for sugar and the fact this is an absolute gimme for one of the best 147/154pounders of this generation
Even though Mosley is old.... the skill difference will be overly apparent in this fight but not as bad as watch old George Forman do away with the young'ns.
Shane will take this via some kind of KO!
Should we get a sticky on this?
has the HBO broadcast started yet? Killer said the undercard was already underway?
ppv you have to be kidding  Well, guess we'll be hunting for links....anyone ?
Well good luck to Shane. I can't stay up for this one, I'm shattered. :(
Killer - you said the undercard has started, what fight is on? Both streams I have checked out are showing Morales - Limond.
