I was just reading this over at Fightnews and I think I am coming to understand why his parents gave him the name Shannon. I mean seriously, what a.... :gay5:
Boxing - Briggs furious at Vitali
For sure, asthma is an unpleasant thing to have, but I see nothing particularly offensive in Vitali saying that asthma is a good excuse to justify a loss.
I really don't get why he would be 'furious'.
I don't even need to click the link, Shannon is furious because Vitali hit the nail on the head. Briggs runs his mouth before fights about how he's this and that and then throws 25 punches a round and immediately has some postfight excuse. I wouldn't be so hard on him if he would just shut up once in a while but he has to be one of the biggest smacktalkers around and quite frankly it is unjustified. What has he done lately......................squat except run his mouth and beat two journeymen. PS: Why is he even getting this fight?Quote:

I've had asthma and it's really not kept me from doing much of anything, I've played virtually every sport in the world (including boxing) and it hasn't really hindered me.
You should read what Chicken Little has said recently "Anybody who signs to fight the Klitschko's is either desperate or just there for a paycheck" ....yep unlike Monte Barrett or Audley Harrison :vd: . Say what you will about Briggs, Sosnowski, Sam Peter, Chisora (eventhough that fight hasn't been signed), etc but at least they have the balls to get in the ring with the Klitschko's.
True that. If Haye has nothing to worthwhile to add then I think he would be better off not mentioning the Klitschko's anymore. He just makes himself look worse every time he brings them up. These other guys might not be ATG's but they are at least getting in the ring (not always in the correct shape mind, but that's another argument).Quote:

How did Briggs get this fight? Was it getting outworked by Sultan, or his great wins over Alexander and Calloway? This is a serious waste of time. I'd rather see someone like Boytsov step up or Solis. Povetkin, Ustinov, anyone but Shannon Briggs. He thinks he could knockout Vitali....lol he will probably get knocked out before his asthma kicks in.
Briggs is trying to unite all the asthma sufferers in the world because many die and the disability is not seen as serious.
No he's not! He's just trying to drum up interest for the atrocity of a fight. What Klit said wasn't that far off the mark considering Briggs' history of excuses and his tendency for running his mouth and then laying duds. I had serious asthma as a child and what Klit said didn't offend me.Quote:

asthma and the fight against it is a huge part of briggs life so i understand why he'd be upset. But he has to be a little more thick skinned in this sport. Vitali doesn't seem like the type that would purposly tease or minimize the illness. Either way vitali will stomp his ass and both the issue and briggs will be forgotten
I have asthma and I know how rough it can be, when i first played basketball again afterwards I could barely make it up and down the court. So I know how it is. But throughout the years im much better and the medicines they have out there really do help.
But, Briggs, if he really wants to inspire people, he needs to stop getting into the ring at 270 pounds and complaining that asthma is holding him back. He should lose weight, and get himself in very decent shape especially for a fight this important. If he wonders why he always is having an attack because he doesn't get into the ring in the best of shape. If he comes in at at least 230 he will last a lot longer.
All Vitali said was "It's a good excuse when you lose" IMO Briggs is just pissed off at getting called out on what he does rather than getting pissed off about suffering from asthma. "Weezy" needs to take a chill pill and get over himself

What many people don’t know is Klitschko holds a much more important distinction, as an Ambassador for UNESCO (United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization). Any real Doctor and certainly any educated member of UNESCO would know that over 300 million men, women and children suffer from asthma around the world and over 250,000 of them died last year alone. I apologize to all the parents, children, brothers and sisters of those who died from asthma last year for Vitali’s extremely insensitive and ignorant remarks. I hope what he said doesn’t cause even one child who may need help and treatment from asthma to not seek it due to “The Champ’s” dismissive remarks. UNESCO is about education, improving and saving lives, not about spreading ignorance and potentially endangering lives with misinformation.
