Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
'MANNY PACQUIAO COULDN'T KNOCK ME DOWN,'
AHEAD of his WBA light-welterweight title defence against Marcos Maidana, the biggest puncher he has faced since Bredis Prescott knocked him out in 2008, Amir Khan has hit out once and for all at the question-marks regarding his chin. Khan, who meets Maidana on December 11 in Las Vegas, insists any vulnerability in the past was caused by the struggle to make the 9st 9lbs lightweight limit and has some interesting evidence to support his claim.
“I’ve taken Manny Pacquiao’s hardest shot in sparring when he weighed 152lbs and he’s not put me down,” Khan bragged. “He caught me a lot of times with big shots and didn’t put me down. I’ve been hit by middleweights and never been put down in sparring. It was only when I was killing myself making weight. I make the weight easier now, I’m a lot stronger and I feel like I can stand in front of any shot.
“I used to kill myself to make weight. I’d be on a strict diet. I’d wear a sweatsuit at night-time, do a five-mile run, come home, have a shower, not have nothing to drink before going to bed. I used to do that for five days on the trot. I’d get up, have half a glass of water and go to the gym again, wearing a sweatsuit. Now, training in LA, we do everything so professionally. Making the weight used to be one fight for me. Who knows what would have happened in the Prescott fight if I hadn’t had to make weight?”
Until signing for the Maidana fight, Khan has faced criticism for supposedly avoiding powerful opponents. He hits back by saying he actively sought to pit his skills against the Argentine’s brute force.
“I’m not being forced into this fight, I forced myself into this fight,” he declared. “But after I beat Maidana, people will say we knew you were going to beat him, it was an easy fight. You can’t win – criticism is always going to be there.”
Khan said that Richard Schaefer, head of his promoter Golden Boy, had told him it did not look like rival champions Timothy Bradley (WBO) and Devon Alexander (WBC and IBF) would be meeting anytime soon. Luckily, Khan has a Plan B.
“If it comes down to it and I have to fight each of them I’ll do that,” he vowed. “I want to fight the best in the division and my plan is to beat Maidana and if the other two don’t fight each other, I’ll fight one of them."
What do you think about that guys? :D
You think Khan is genuinely ready to do damage?

On a serious note, Khan just needs to shut the fuck up get his head down and concentrate on Maidana.

Yes,
Why not, get him in there with the top guy's in the division and see how he fairs, If he thinks he's ready then give him the shots !
The worrying thing about the statement is that he's saying he's been getting caught alot by Manny's hardest shots :o, seems to me he needs to work on his defence then !!

Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
Haha, Khan is a natural born comedian. When Hatton gets out of rehab they should go on the comedy circuit together. ;D
I mean sparring is sparring. It's not as if they are going all out and of course Khan is going to be wearing that wopping great thing on his head. Just maybe Manny held back a bit because of Khan's chinny reputation. Pac is a nice guy, you don't want to slaughter the new stablemate.

Is this going to be one of those threads where the majority over-react to a complete non-story? :-X

Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
"I’m not being forced into this fight, I forced myself into this fight"
The quote above just seems really weird to me. If he forced himself into the fight, then surely that means he didn't really want to fight him? Which would in turn suggest that he was kind of forced into the fight.
It doesn't quite add up nor make complete sense.

Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
Maybe he could have said, "I wasn't pushed into this fight, it was me that pushed for this fight". That would make more sense. Otherwise, I just find what he said a bit of a jumble.

Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
Actually. Amir didn't do bad at all in this footage...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g-U4LM46ng
In fact, he owned Manny in that round.
I hear Buboy Fernandez saying "atras sa lubid".
Sounds to me they were training Manny to exchange while his back against the rope.

I don't hate Khan, if anything i'm a fan... But i just had to put this up!!! ;D

Haha, he did the same thing against Prescot when he got wobbled by a jab, his legs did a funny little trip-rhythm.. Like a little tap dance or something?!
Khan definitely has 'happy feet' ;D

But come on now, Pac is hardly going all out is he?
He was training for a particular situation and Khan was trying to apply what was set. Pac would have no agenda to destroy his sparring partner in this particular instance.
You know he could if he wanted to.

He could say alot of things, and dismiss alot of things from what he say's, that would not make him look like a tit. To be fair to the lad, he aint no linguist, and his grasp of the english language aint the best either. What im bothered about is how he does once he's in the ring, as really thats all that matters ;)

Perhaps that's my trouble. I am a linguist and I do read into words and the connotations they have. That is why I think Terry Nutkins is a Saddo's great and Amir Khan just confuses the hell out of me. ;D
For sure, what happens in the ring is what matters. And to be fair to the lad, I am looking forward to seeing what happens with Maidana and also beyond. I'm not a fan of Khan's, but my harshness is dissipating a tad.

No he's not. He was listening and following every specific instructions and executing them right away. Pac would just wing it on his own if it was a real fight.

To Khan's credit Pac probably hasn't slaughtered him in sparring, but I do find it a really strange thing to bring up. Fair enough, maybe what he said about being drained at 135 is true. He is a tall lad after all, but he does seem to be going overboard seeing as his chin at 140 hasn't exactly been checked by anyone.
The Maidana fight is the first genuine challenge to the chin IMO. It should be interesting.

Gotta admit Khan is starting to win me over a bit. The only thing is we all know he has no chin and whe he fights someone who is genuinely elite that is going to show. I think he schools Maidana and Bradley for that matter though!

Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
Khan won't mind getting back in the ring with prescott then.
-
Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
Khan's use of the English language isn't the best but at the end of the day he's a boxer. He doesn't really do himself many favours when he opens his mouth but he's right about one thing. When he beats Maidaina, which he will, he won't get any credit for it. He'll make Maidaina look stupid and because of that people won't be able to accept that Khan is actually a very good boxer but with a big achilles heel, a glass jaw!! If anything, this makes him exciting to watch because you know he could go down in any fight. He'll school Maidaina and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the KO.

I'm already giving him huge respect and tons of credits for taking on Maidana. But he won't certainly make Maidana look stupid.
If "school" means running away for full 12 rounds, then that is not the right difinitation.

What is the point, Prescott has lost twice, its like Hopkins fighting the first person that beat him years ago.

Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
@ PSL..I'm sure a lot of people who are backing Maidaina in this fight and the Khan haters will say that Maidaina was over-hyped when Khan beats him. I'm not saying everyone will say that but I bet a lot do. When I say "school" I mean completely out-box the other fighter, which is what I think Khan will do. Maidaina really isn't nothing special, he can bang but he has limited boxing skills. Khan will box rings round him but like with most Khan opponents it's interesting because you know if one lands on his chin he could be taking a tumble.

Getting hit clean on the nose or chin with that on, doesn't really make that big a difference.
The key way they help is that you largely avoid cuts from headclashes/stray elbows. What makes way more of a difference imo is the ounceage of glove being used. The difference between being hit by a 16oz glove & a 10oz glove is far more noticeable than the headguard. Anyway, while he says Pac hasn't dropped him, I have heard from someone who trains at the Wild Card that Jose Benavidez dropped Khan, although not badly.

No one would slate the kid if he didn't utter things like, "I can beat Pacquiao in a fight," "I can end Mayweather's unbeaten streak," when really he has yet to beat a top 3 guy in any division he has fought. Concentrate on Maidana and then see if he can beat the winner of Bradley-Alexander.
There's nothing wrong with shit talking or confidence, but when you're still largely unproven and thinking you can take 2 of the best figthers of this era, then it becomes comedic.

You have to realise that those comments are highly likely to be in response to a question asked by a reporter...
He's hardly going to say 'Nah Mayweather would kill me', especially if he has designs about a Mayweather fight somewhere down the line.

Anyway, it's more than just the headgear, the bigger gloves and the slight increase in body fat.
The picture highlights the fact that it's sparring. Granted this was a response to an interview but seriously, you shouldn't brag about achievements that have come from play fighting.
-
Re: Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao Can't Knock Me Down!
listen lots of people including me have been calling for Khan to face a puncher.... i always thought Prescot was his first step into it because of his padded KO record... he failed bigtime and he will prob fail again with this next fight, if it happens
but hats off to him he's going for it and to be honest i hope he wins because i love hearing the crap he spouts the arguments he causes and it makes this sport interesting.... sadly i doubt he will.
on another note can you imagine freddie roach saying to manny pac ok this kid has just been KO'd so get in there and go for a quick KO manny lets shot his confidence to fuck.
Pac was told to go easy on him for a confidence booster, i just hope Khan dosn't think he has a chin because of this.

that's the best you got? plus I still think it's true.
Maidana is a step up but I'm still not 100% convinced Khan is actually 'going for it'. It pains me to say it but I think Khan will box rings round maidana for 12 rounds if the ref don't stop it that is.

More interesting sparring than Manny v Khan :D
This is how i see the fight going also, Khan using his ring smarts to keep out the way, firing quick jabs, the old 1-2, and keeping out of range of the big bombs of Maidana. I do expect him to take a few hard shots, and this is when we will see how good that chin is at the higher weight, and without him being weight drained !
