My friend thinks Gamboa is faster than Manny, I still think Manny has kwiker hand speed... Whatta u guys think?
does kwiker mean quicker? If so, I think Gamboa has clearly the faster hands. As does Andre Berto, but Manny puts more into his punches and has more powerful, where as Gamboa only knocks guys out when they don't see a punch coming generally. Also Gamboa does everything so effortlessly in the ring while Pacquiao is really working hard out there, I think Manny tries harder where as Gamboa doesn't often show his true speed because of his relaxed style. He only uses as much speed as necessary, more like Floyd Mayweather.
They're equally fast. Pac throws more combos though.
depends if your talking about manny the flyweight or manny the welterweight

i think speed can be a little overrated if it's not used right. as far as pacquiao and gamboa goes, it's probably a tie. pacquiao being the harder puncher but gamboa the better overall boxer.
That's a tough call as they are both damn fast but not using it the same way, Manny use it more for multiple flurries where Gamboa throws more 1-2 punches.
I think Gamboa is punch for punch faster but Manny has the technique,combination skill and just a extremely much more effective trained puncher. Gamboa is becoming way to reliant on one or two,inconsistent and he puts himself in as much danger for counters off frequent misses.

Gamboa has clearly faster hands, there is no quesiton about it, and Manny has basically retained the same handspeed as he has always had which is why its so impressive now at WW. I don't see why people say Gamboa doesn't throw combinations. He throws plenty of them, watch most of his fights, We've also seen Pacquiao not throw combinations like against Marquez and the second fight against Barrera or against Jorge Solis. I think Manny's handspeed looks very good against a guy who is right htere to be hit or is stationary, but like when he tried to chase Cotto down, Pacquiao's style is terrible for walking a guy down.

Exactly, you can't really watch a fight and determine the precise punch speed of a fighte1 versus another fighter's punch speed when they haven't even shared a ring. They are both extremely fast. I think part of Pacquiao's advantage is that hes coming from a lower weight fighting guys who are naturally slower then him and he's retaining his speed while still being able to bulk up his frame.
I think what Taeth is trying to say is that Pacquiao puts the pedal to the floor and uses his speed to swarm you while Gamboa tries to use it to box with you a little more. He's not saying Gamboa has had the better performances over better opposition.
Kwicka is better then quicker btw. I will be using it.
Gamboa, just. But he doesn't dig in with his shots like Pac does.
As a side note this thread got me thinking about Roy Jones speed and power in his prime. He reminded me of both these guys mixed and amazingly I think his handspeed is equal to these 2 despite being a hell of a lot bigger. Maybe I'm just being a fanboy of my favourite all time fighter but i'd be interested to see if Roy could throw as many punches per second as these 2. I think he would!
Lol that's why I answered. Pacquiao is one of my favorite fighters, I even paid a lot of money to see him live against Cotto. I don't hate Pacquiao, and I clearly think he has done way more than Gamboa in his career. I am just saying that Pacquiao forces his speed in situations that make him far less effective because of it sometimes. There are times you go for KO power, and power combinations, there are times you set up the opponent, and while Pacquiao has improved a lot in this regard, it still seems to me that Gamboa has the better grasp of it, and he doesn't need to show his speed as often.Quote:

That being said, Gamboa has faster hands than Pacquiao, but IMO Pacquiao's blend of power, speed and tenacity far surpass anything Gamboa has shown yet. While Gamboa doesn't seem capable of stopping guys who can see his punches coming, Manny has stopped guys nobody else has, hall of fame, opponents, and he has brought his power and speed up many wieght divisions in the process.
Who is the better fighter? Manny by a long shot. But who is faster? Gamboa.

Manny puts too much on his speed when need not be you are correct...I think that may be lately because he is trying so hard to add the extra power with the speed since he has been fighting bigger guys...Who knows....One downside on it is the fact after a while it is easily telegraphed....A good counterpuncher with decent speed would capitalize on it for sure
