Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Odlanier Solis-Ray Austin on December 17 in Florida - Boxing News
By Lem Satterfield
According to Alan Hopper, head of public relations for promoter Don King, 2004 Olympic gold medal winner Odlanier Solis (16-0, 12 KOs) will face Ray Austin (28-4-4, 18 KOs) in a WBC final eliminator on December 17, with the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida being the likely venue. The winner becomes the mandatory challenger to WBC champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs).
Hopper confirms that IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (21-0, 18 KOs) will defend his title on the Solis-Austin undercard against an opponent to be determined.
"Don King is has been in discussions with American Airlines Arena, and he's getting very close, to presenting a WBC heavyweight title elimination bout," said Hopper. "That bout would be between No. 1-ranked Ray Austin and No. 2-ranked Odlanier Solis, who is also undefeated, to determine who will face the WBC champion next."

Tavoris Cloud and Selcuk Aydin are on the card as well.
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Solis should spark Ray Austin early on just like Wlad did. Good fight for Solis though, Ray is a decent enough boxer to win this fight if Solis comes out flat. Ray is a big guy and will help prepare Solis for the bigger Klitschko brothers.
I would like to see Solis at least try to come to fight in shape

That has been the main problem for Solis. Since he left the ams and weight LIMITS he has let himself go and IMO he has gone too far now to ever reach his true potential. To be great you have to live a good clean life, you can't just have 6 years off being in shape and still come out the other side a great fighter.
He'll probably still take Austin, but he won't get much higher than that IMO.

Nice and slow. Your right there mate, if he gets any fatter he won't be able to go any slower because he'll be stationary!
He'll never meet his potential now, boxing is a sport that you have to keep on top of yourself at all times and he's let it slip by getting obese!
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Yea, this eliminator is the battle of "who doesnt want to fight".
Both their activity levels are horrid, if you are to stay sharp and want to beat a (even 50yo) Klitschko bro you need to be active and well polished.
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Is Austin Kings new poorer version of Tony Tucker ?? How does he get another title eliminator ? Just cannot get excited about this one.
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
I want Solis to win, but I want Austin to do some damage to knock some sense into Solis.
Odlanier should be able to handle this though and I can't see him having any problems as long as his focus is even remotely near the ring.

Totally. Think he clips him down inside. I just hope we're not looking at the next Juan Estrada :-X

I'm actually kind of interested about it to be honest. Solis hasn't had to work very hard for a victory in a while (he might not have to here either), but Ray Austin can be difficult for some fighters, he was difficult for Sultan Ibragimov who was a good amateur, had decent pop, and quick hands. Of course Solis is a different animal altogether, but hopefully Ray comes to fight and pushes Solis a bit. If we see another 2nd round KO Solis will weigh 280 for his next fight.
I'd like to see Solis-Thompson better, I think Thompson is a tough fight for anybody.

That would be a great stylistic fight, Thompson is one of the few movers at heavyweight.

Thompson is the ONLY American heavyweight out there right now that pays attention to the small details, defense and landing the jab. He's not fun to watch but he's hard as hell to beat and I'd take him over damn near anyone not named Klitschko.

He is still a prospect, and thus shouldn't be fighting Vitali, let alone after a fight with someone Ray Austin's caliber.
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Enough with this whole idea that he's not ready, Gold medal winner Odlanier Solis 30, 16(12 KO)-0-0 won 2 out of 3 with the great Felix Savon and he's "still a prospect"?!?!?! Have you lost your mind?
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Looks like he's pushing 280 for this fight :(
Austin will give him a fight IMO. He gets written off way too easily because Wladimir beat him with one hand. He'll be a handful (no pun) for most heavies outside of the K bros & maybe Haye.

Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
Solis is one of the fastest heavyweights out there even if he's fat. He shouldn't be fat but so far it hasn't mattered. I wish he would drop some weight but honestly he's been destroying guys, at 30 he is coming into his heavyweight prime and would be a live dog with anyone. He may not be faster overall then Haye but he has faster hands.

He's got power in both hands, very quick, but he's fat, he can (to quote Teddy Atlas) "be dragged into those deep waters" and his stamina can be tested.
Ray Austin is a very flawed fighter, but he's got raw talent which has been good enough to net him a couple of very good wins. People can sleep on him, Sultan Ibragimov slept on him and damn near lost that fight..

I totally disagree. For me Hayes handspeed is way faster than Solis', the thing with Haye is he is very conservative with his punches and only displays his handspeed occasionally. But when you see he has an almost 50% connect rate with his punches, that is excusable for me!
At times Haye reminds me of a much bigger version of Roy Jones, but with only half the package. His reflexes aren't as good as Roy's (no one in the history of boxings are), his handspeed is good but not as good as Roys (again is there anyone with as good handspeed), and he fights with his left hand way too low at times (only thing is Roy never paid for it in his prime whereas Haye has been known to get caught out). I do though think p4p Hayes power is a match for Roys!
Re: Odlanier Solis vs Ray Austin
I think Solis has more handspeed then Haye. Now I haven't watched both fight in slowmotion with a stopwatch so I can't say for sure but I think he has faster hands and he definitely puts his punches together faster.
