Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
What do you think are the boxing records in general or for a specific weight class that are least likely to be broken?
Here's a couple I think are pretty safe
Joe Louis' 25 Consecutive Successful Title Defenses at Heavyweight
Wilfredo Benitez's youngest Champion at 17 years old
Mike Tyson youngest heavyweight champion at 20 years old
Evander Holyfield 5 time heavyweight champion
Edwin Valero's 18 consectutive 1st round KO's
I think Marciano's 49-0-0 will be beaten 9as Larry Holmes and even Nicolay Valuev have been within 1 fight of matching it), but I doubt the fighter that beats it ends his career undefeated.
Can you guys think of any others?

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
From the one's you listed I think Tysons most likely to be done.
I doubt anyone ever comes close to The Brown Bomber.
"Finito" Lopez 51-0 with 21 consecutive title defenses... Along with 25 straight title fights.
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
B-Hops 20 consec. defenses at Middle...
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
What about most professional fights? I don't even know who holds that record...
Probably impossible to beat in the modern era, though.
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Totally flinging it here but couple that would be cool to know....most 15th round ko's ? Champions who won all belts on Tech decisions. Sung kil moon ?
Most draws ? An old crusty here but only fighter to lose a fight on every continent except Antartica Bruce Strouse.
Hottest female fighter who could kick my azz 10 times...Lucia Riker. Fact. Good thread...
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Most defences of the unified heavy title (WBC, IBF and WBA) Mike Tyson holds that.
Youngest ever heavyweight champ, Mike Tyson Holds that.
The fighter who appears in the biggest upsets of the sport the most, Mike Tyson holds that;D
The only 22 year old to have won Ring magazine fighter of the year Twice, Mike Tyson holds that.
All together Mike has 12 Ring awards, 2 fighter of the years, 1 fight of the year, 1 KO of the year, 2 upset of the years, 4 events of the year, 1 round of the year and 1 prospect of the year.
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Henry Armstrong's holding 3 titles in 3 weight classes at the same time

For wins modern might be that dude Buck smith? Tons of unsanctioned fights, use to fight 3,4 times a week or so. The one who looked like he took a dive vs Chavez.

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
As soon as I saw the title of the thread Joe Louis' record came to mind!
I'm sure I don't need to remind you though Lyle that Wlad is on 10 next time round and if he keeps fighting 3 times a year he COULD do it! Long way to go yet but considering the state of the division at the minute and the lack of young talent emerging in the HW's it is not totally unthinkable. I still think Haye could upset all that but for me he is the only person who "COULD".
That said a lot can happen in 5-6 years and it probably will!!

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Foreman comeback and winning the heavyweight title so many years later.

Tyson may have had some kind of unified deal under modern bullshit but Louis was the undisputed champion and still holds the record at 25 defenses.

Yeah but there was a reason Louis's defences were called bums of the month.
Im gonna have a look and compare the calibre of fighters that Tyson and Louis defended their titles against. I bet Mikes were a far better quality over all:cool:

Good records all. Of this list, however, I hold Holyfield's record in the lowest regard. Winning a HW title more than once can be due to so many things. Theoretically, you can... retire and come back, retire and come back, retire and come back... Winning titles in different weight divisions is more impressive to me.
That being said, I doubt Holyfield's record gets broken with the state of the HW division as it is today. (Unless Wlad decides to retire and un-retire five times).
;)

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Holyfield won the WBA belt only 4 times not 5

If title defenses against the likes of Bonehugger Smith and Tony Tubbs turns you on ok.

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Sugar Ray Robinson's streak of 90 fights without a loss. Doubt that will broken anytime soon.
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
how about julio cesar chavez' 90 fight win streak to start a career? say what you want but that's pretty impressive. also, his all-time best of 27 successful title defenses overall.
pacquiao's eight division world titles is probably going to stand the test of time and might not be broken for many decades, if ever.
ultimately, i believe most records will be broken with the exception of those early boxers who had like 250-300 fights. that will never be duplicated again.
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
I guess the obvious answer would be anything that has to do with the number of fights. Obviously its very unlikely that anyone now adays is going to break Archie Moore's KO record. Fighters today wouldn't have 130 career fights, let alone be able to record 130 knockout wins.

Joe Louis beat at least 8 hall of famers in his career. That I know. Tyson only beat 1, and that was a faded Holmes. Fact.

Im pretty sure SRR lost to Jake LaMotta after about 40 something fights.
Anyway as for the thread.
Phillip Holiday vs Ivan Robinson = Most punches thrown and landed in any fight using Compubox, im not sure of the exact stats but its crazy.

Michael Spinks is a hall of famer, he was an amazing Light Heavyweight one of the best at all time. And he was a good Heavyweight aswell, he was just scared and didn't turn up vs Mike Tyson.

Also fighting 200 times and beating everyone in his era and only getting knocked out once by heat exhaustion is a record in its own. And I think SRR was 85-0 in the amateurs. The man was baaaad.

The Valero one has already been broken by Tyrone Brunson.
I think the Tyson one can be beat as he was a titlist at 20, I think that is doable again.

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Being champion at 17 doesn't sound to me like something likely to be beaten, I would personally go with that one.

given the state of the HW division and seeing how the average fighter in the division is in their 30's i don't really think it'll be broken anytime soon

in the US at least it won't be broken, seeing how you have to at least be 18 to turn pro so no chance in hell they'll become champion at 17

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Jack Johnson ....... first black heavyweight champ.
Dont think that will be broken ;D
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Good thread:
- Someone mentioned Wlad approaching Louis' record of title defences. Don't forget that Joe was THE heavyweight champion of the world and made 25 defences. Wlad is not undisputed and has therefore made no defences of THE world heavyweight championship.
- Marciano's 49-0 will go, as someone will just fight 50 tomato cans and then win a lightly regarded 'world' title
- Homocide Hank holding 3 titles at the same time may be bettered ..... but not when you think that he would be holding about 6 titles simultaneously at todays weight divisions!
- I would think that the Old Mongoose's KO record will stay unbeaten forever!!! Also, I can't see anybody beating Chavez/Haugen crowd record of 120,000 (unless a certain someone has his last fight in the Phillippines)
-

Valuev nearly did it by that method.

Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
Only twins to ever be world boxing title holders, Khaosai and Kaokor Galaxy. A bit of a novelty boxing record but I'm guessing it would be quite hard to match.
-
Re: Boxing Records Least likely to be broken...
arcanum26,
wrong answer. the thai twins might have been the first twins to win titles but not the only ones. raul garcia of mexico was minimumweight champion for about two years until he got dethroned by joyi of south africa last year.
since then, his twin brother, ramon garcia hirales is the current WBO jr. flyweight champ.

Thanks for pointing that one out at. Read your post about that one, good job for the tough azteca warriors. ;)

JMM & Rafa brothers being on the Rings Top 10 P4P simotaneously.
Orlando & Gaby brothers to hold a title at the same time in the same division.
