Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
My list...
1. Juan Manuel Lopez
2. Sergio Martinez (he'll jump to #1 if he beats PWill)
3. Fernando Montiel
4. Lucian Bute
5. Vitali Klitschko
6. Wlad Klitschko
7. Manny Pacquiao
8. Tomasz Adamek
9. Giovanni Segura
10. Jean Pascal
11. Amir Khan
12. Paul Williams

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Pascal is way to low if you ask me, on paper he has probably got the best win of the year.
-
Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Segura's win over Calderon, Martinez's win over Pavlik and Pascal's win over Dawson and the three biggest wins of the year so far. If Martinez also beats Williams I agree he takes the number one spot.
Montiel's wins over Hasegawa and Concepcion deserve mention, but aren't quite up to the level.
so my candidates are
Sergio Martinez (unless he loses tomorrow)
Giovanni Segura
Jean Pascal

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
it seems like a toss up between Pacman and JML .
I say Bhop beats Pascal so im guessing he wont be fighter of the year
Martinez would be a clear #1 if he beats Williams .

Yeah. I may have put him too low. I should replace one of the Klits.

Good list - I would vote for JML.

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
I'm with you on Martinez. I have to disagree with Bute, way too high. He's beat Miranda, and Brinkley not great fighters by any means. Definitely not the type to make him fighter of the year.

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Depends. If Pascal is black enough to beat Hopkins, i'd go with him. If he doesn't and Martinez beats Williams, i'd go with him. If Khan beats Maidana well, i'd have him creep into the top 5 or 6.
If they all lose, i'd probably look at JuanMa, or even Pacquiao.
Can't be decided yet though as the top candidates still have difficult fights to get through.
It's difficult because the top level fighters are all fairly inactive, and then there are some former top level fighters who are still licking their wounds from beatings.

I don't see how Martinez gets a clear number one if he beats Williams. He beat a DONE Kelly Pavlik to add to that. ???
Pascal gets the nod for me when he beats Hopkins. He'll have way too much speed for him.

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
I'll come back to this thread in around 1 months time. A lot could change in that time. If Maidana KO's Khan which he very well could although I'm expecting Amir to be awesome in truth, I think that must fire him up there.
Like I said I'LL COME BACK IN A MONTH.

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Toss up between Pascal and Martinez for me. As mentioned...one more fight for each will be the deciding factor. If they both fall on their faces somehow (which I highly doubt), really have no clue.

How have you got P-Will on there when he's only fought 3.5 rounds of boxing at the time of writing?

Obvivously he didn't make my top 10.
Just consider it 11 and 12 as honorable mention. ;)

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
If Sergio wins tonight then Sergio takes it for me...
After that it's Segura followed by JP.
-
I just can't decide. I'll be back soon with an answer.
Not that I agree with it, but Pac is probably right up there, his wins publicly count as double.
-
Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
for me, it's gotta be Juan Manuel Lopez. there is no doubt about that!
-
Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
The award should already be Fernando Montiel
-
Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Martinez just took the Fighter of the year from Montiel with that KO

Martinez for me too. He has beaten up Pavlik and knocked Williams clean out in 2. That man is on a roll.
-
Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
This will probably be terribly unpopular given what just happened, but if Pascal beats Hopkins decisively, I'd still consider him.

I need to see how Pascal reacts to being bodyslammed and elbowed by Hopkins. B-Hop is going to win that fight or get DQed trying.

Martinez it is! :o

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
my pick before martinez destroyed williams was juanma lopez as fighter of the year but now it's probably a toss-up between sergio martinez and juanma lopez. i'd be happy with either one!

IF, big IF Katsidis pulls off what most would perceive as an upset, he flys up the rankings for me.

Definitely. Martinez gets it for me, if Pascal beats Hopkins he'd be in with a shout, as would Katsidis if he does Marquez. I don't see it happening though. Montiel deserves it too, though I think Martinez shades him after last night

Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams, That's 2 good names in a year.
Yeah It should be Martinez
Lopez and Montiel are the only other fighters in contention imo.
-
Re: Your 2010 Fighter of The Year Candidates so far
Martinez (2 big names in one year), Pascal (for saving the world of boxing from Chad Dawson), Katsidis (if he wins next), Pacquaio (for dominating bigger guys), maybe Lebedev could be added here if he KO's Huck.

Only way a Katsidis win happens is if some how Marquez gets DQ. Other than that it ain't happening. People making it seem like Marquez is facing Victor Polo or Manuel Medina. He's not. He's facing Michael Katsidis. The win is in the bag for Marquez.
