Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
This would be a good fight. A win over a young, undefeated fighter in his prime would do much more for Pac's stock than a win over an old Mosley.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
I think Berto is really limited though. A fight with Tim Bradley at 140 would be much more tempting for me.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
He's sizable enough. He don't want none of that. Speeds great...when its tried and true in the big leagues. Manny is NO place for a testing ground. Personally I thing grey beard Mosley gives him a deeper and more substantial match....Berto has a trinket though.

Bradley is too small to fight Pac. That fight ain't happening at 140. Berto is a good option if the Floyd fight doesn't come off and Berto does need to step up his level of competition. Berto will be 28 next year and will be in his 8th year as a pro.

Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
From the comments above, it seems that whoever Pacquiao fights among the three: Mosley (old), Berto (limited) or Bradley (small), he will still be criticized.
So if that fight with Mayweather does not happen, what is Manny supposed to do?
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
welcome to floyds life.......pac vs berto would be a decent scrap. Berto is highly overpaid and has had soft opposition but i also think he's underrated. Pac will be critized for fighting any other than floyd hopefully he like floyd will care less.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
A fight with Berto is the most promising of anyone out there aside from Floyd.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
Pac-Berto would be entertaining....... while it lasted.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
Berto has horrible footwork and doesn't understand his identity when faced with adversity.
I don't know why anyone would think this would be a good fight at all.
Berto has quick hands, Pac has quicker hands and mobility.
None for me thanks.

Sergio Martinez at 156, Money May at 147, otherwise opposition in congress. He has his legacy, I admit he's in a tough spot competition wise, because he is that much better than everyone else out there. That being said it would be a waste of time (albeit a profitable waste of time) to fight these guys that have been mentioned, because he needs resistance. He won't get any resistance out of those fights.
To be honest I think that the most credit should come from Bradley.

Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
a berto/pacquiao fight would be very intriguing because berto is in his physical prime, undefeated and can match pacquiao's handspeed (almost) and i believe has more raw power than pacquiao. i doubt roach takes this fight though. too dangerous!

Ya Berto is a banger just like Pacquiao used to be, just not as quick. But, I can just see Pac being sucked into a pissing contest to make an entertaining fight.

Manny will earn limited credit for beating ANYONE but Mayweather.. That is true... If Mayweather doesn't work, he's got to fight someone, so of course he doesn't earn the props that he would get for beating Mayweather, but it will be another challenger with another mindset/style/preperation,,, challenge,,, that he has beaten.. Another small question answered..
But there will still be detractors..
Even if he fought Pavlik or Hopkins people would still detract from a win...
Guess we just have to accept that when you put yourself in a whole other league, you suffer a whole other league of standards that people expect of you before they give you your props..

Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
I like Berto but I truly believe Manny will ruin him if this fight takes place.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
I like a fight with Berto way more than with Mosely. I echo Killer, Martinez at 154 or Mayweather at 147 is the only way to go.
-
I'd like to see the Berto fight. I'd want to see just how good Berto is.
Not that good I suspect.
-
Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
It has to be Martinez or Mayweather next. If they can't then a fight with Bradley or Berto wouldn't be too bad an alternative, though I'm not sold on Berto he may be able to hurt Pac and he has good enough speed to come close to him in that fight. I'd imagine he'd get beaten comfortably inside the distance if it happened though.

Remember this is the Berto that people said Shane would ruin that had trouble with Quintana and people said Mosley would have ruined him.
But now some people will act like Berto is actually a threat to Pacquiao.
I guess we'll wait and see how Berto looks against his next opponent whateverhisnameis.

Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
i actually think this fight between berto and pacquiao, if it happens, would be very competitive. for one, berto is young, can bang and tremendous handspeed for a welterweight.

Berto is robotic and never changes his gameplan. If he fought Pacquiao he would be beaten badly. He has a lot of skills but he doesn't use it to its maximum advantages. He leads too much with non accurate shots, and his shots are never delivered fluidly. If he wants to be effective he shouldn't rely so much on his speed with no substance around it.
He has skills, and he has speed, but he fights like he doesn't know what to do with all of it.

Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
Berto would be my 1st choice. a long time belt holder at 147, Young and undefeated.
Sergio Martinez would be a very difficult, Pac might retire right away if he takes on Martinez, huge huge size difference and there's no point if the fight doesnt happen at middleweight which is a big big stretch for Pacquiao.

Ok, sorry for the confusion, I really thought it was serious at some point, not only because some person like B-Hop said it but I've heard it around me and I am always feeling to do the facepalm when I hear such argument:)

They need to get it made before january 24th

Re: Berto also considered to be Pac's next opponent
At least Pac and PBF are staying busy fighting. One in the ring, the other in the court system. But hey! Staying busy.
I believe Pac would have no problem fighting Martinez, or anyone put in front of him. But it would be a very high risk(size diff) low reward fight. Berto seems a logical choice if I was the match maker.
And much as I don't like PBF, I do hope he gets his out of ring affairs sorted and remembers why he began fighting. To be the very best. And that answer will only come with a victory over Pac at this point. Which once seemed a certainty, now seems a fleeting possibility....but we can dream, right?
