Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
Sick Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. drops out of fight against Pawel Wolak - ESPN
"Instead of the Chavez-Wolak main event, Arum said he would elevate the scheduled co-feature, a 12-round bantamweight match between the Philippines' pound-for-pound-ranked Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KOs) and former bantamweight titlist Wladimir Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KOs) of Ukraine."
"Lightweight titlist Humberto Soto (53-7-2, 32 KOs) of Mexico defends his belt against Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KOs) of Maywood, Calif., and featherweight contender Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) of Oxnard, Calif., faces Olivier Lontchi (18-1-2, 8 KOs) of Montreal."
"I'm not going to cancel the show," Arum said. "Anyone who wants a refund at the gate can get a refund. But you can't cancel the show and do that to the kids who were getting ready to fight for the past six or eight weeks. You have an obligation if you can to follow through on the card."
Ok! now I've got to wonder if you can still buy a $200 ring side ticket and then get a refund at the gate. So you'd be basically watching this fight for free?

Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off

3rd? When was the last time Mayweather fought? I'm thinking he surely deserves 2nd.

When did Pacquiao last KO anyone?? By my calculations it was over a year ago against Cotto. He's clearly on the slide... and the new P4P #1 is....

Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
This is one move Bob Arum hopes will be appreciated by the boxing community. Relegating the bottomline "profits" from a promoter like Bob, to take a backseat for goodwill, and to the protagonists who've all trained hard... a reward, is nothing but top shelf.

Bob Arum doesn't give a fuck about the boxing community. The only way you get a refund at the gate is if you don't want to come in. Seriously. This card is better without Jr though. Soto v Antillon should be topping the card really.

Hahaha! I'm afraid this is a case of my always seeing the good over the bad!
Seriously, I was not getting much into the merit of the refund, after all it was just fairplay, but what I'm impressing upon is Bob Arum's risk-taking in order that the show goes on.
He appreciates the toil that boxers involved in the cards have undertaken, and he is making sure that it will not go unrewarded at the very least by way of the "purse" coming its way.

This must have been a nightmare for Chavis Jr.'s relatives and fans who have already bought the tickets.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
So Latin Fury is being headlined by Donaire? lol. Soto-Antillon is a cracking fight, can't miss material imo.

He makes that, and thats fighting guys that arent titleists. Imagine if he wins a belt, how many more Mexican fans will jump on the bandwagon.

Don't mock the "Silver", there's plenty of guys very proud of winning the Silver title at the Olympics, and don't mention there's always at least one better!

Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
very busy first round for Wolak-Pinzon.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
Wolak down and hurt bad early in the second by a left hook, basically got pummeled for a minute and a half but hung on and came back a bit at the end of the round. If Pinzon had created a little distance at times it would probably be over.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
I basically missed the third as I had to mess with my headphones and speakers in order to hear the commentary which is in some unknown foreign language.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
I dont know how Wolak is still standing, target practice.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
Not a bad fight really, they're definitely trying. Wolak might be wearing him down a little.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
Wolaks coming back this other guy is looking on shaky legs.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
Pinzon's been ground down. Hurt numerous times that round. Not long now unless he hurts Wolak again.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire elevated to Main event Chavis Jr. fight Off
wait. Its Pinzon in black? The announcer is speaking in tongues.
