A petition to ban a respected member of his profession just for doing his job at what some people would consider a world class level, is completely disrespectful....
You should be ashamed.. How would this person feel if they read a petition to get them sacked from their job..?

:lol: I have great respect for a referee that has to put his name on the line and make tough calls and split-second decisions, but this guy is a disgrace.
Yes, ban him from ever officiating another fight. And I mean ban him from all fights. Young up and coming fighters shouldn't have to put up with his nonsense either. Maybe Cortez is a nice guy, I don't know. But if you can't do your job with any degree of consistency nor professionalism then you need to be given the boot.
It is time for him to go. There are a group of awful referees that I would like to see put in the retirement home and some judges too.

Some are complaining about how certain fighters were hard done by with him reffing and that he's affected outcomes of fights.... I havn't found things to that extent, although I have noticed his reffing style really benefit certain fighters or styles and hinder others...
And by that style I mean getting himself in the middle of fighters much much more than is needed, and way to prematurely in the fight, and during almost every exchange... Many many times over i've been really into a fight, and he slowly draws me out of the excitement with what I would honestly call "interruptions" to the proceedings..
I think the Maidana thing just brought it back to everyone's attention, but he's personally hindered my enjoyment of the majority of matches i've watched him ref...
But, he keeps getting top bouts because someone really wants him in there,,,, I just understand why many fighters don't want him reffing their fights...
There are so many people more worthy of being banned...Gale Van Hoy for instance.
Cortez is a ref, not all refs do their job the same way....Laurence Cole for another example is a million times worse than Cortez.

I know there are a lot of Brits that hate Cortez because of Hatton-Mayweather and Cortez wouldn't let Ricky hold or maul Floyd. Now part of me wonders how those very same fans would react if Cortez was to ref the (hopefully) soon to be made heavyweight unification fight.

Judges that are continually far wide of the others judges scores are the ones who should be banned first.

Thats not as bad as some refs who fear the crowds reaction on an early stoppage and let it go on.

Was in Vegas for the Last Marquez-Diaz fight. Saw Joe reffing the undercard fight where Bika was DQ for hitting Mendy when he was down. He had plenty of time to step in.Maybe he's losing it a bit. There are a lot of other useless refs that should go also in m opinion.
I think Cortez is a disgrace. He always seems to favour someone in there, and that makes me think he's corrupt.
I remember when Hopkins put his head in Calzaghe's face right in front of Cortez and the little fair but firm fat man did fuck all about it.
No that's not the root cause of why hatton lost the fight. But as a Floyd fan and as a boxing fan I like to see a fight on an even playing field. I would have liked to have seen Floyd win with no question marks due to biased refereeing.Quote:
