Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Tomorrow night, live from America broadcast only on PolSat sports
Solis is he in line for a title shot, or is he just in line for the buffet?
Odlanier faces off against Ray "Hasn't fought in over a year and is over 40" Austin in a WBC title eliminator clash. The winner here gets a shot at Vitali Klitschko, maybe unless the wrong guy wins and then they have another title eliminator, or if Haye decides to fight Vitali, then it all means nothing.
Also Tavoris Cloud is fighting Fulgencio "Tomato Can Diet" Zuniga. This should actually be an entertaining fight, pretty much impossible to go to decision. Both guys always bring it and have reasonably good chins.
Both fights are worth watching IMO, probably not FOTY candidates (although Cloud/Zuniga has that potential) but entertaining ones none the less.

Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
If Solis got himself in shape he could be a major force in the heavyweight division. It's frustrating. He is a tough man though and even in his blubbery form I still favour him to give David Haye a very tough fight if/when they meet.
He needs to work harder though. Basically there are 5 fighters in the weight class now who are respectable imo, Wlad, Vitali, Haye, Adamek and Povetkin.
Solis can put his name amongst those if he starts to actually train.

Solis has fought NOBODY and is in line for a title shot ?! WTF ? That fat fuck has done nothing to earn it. And Ray Austin has heart but not much skill so I don't expect him to put up much of a fight.
Zuniga is actually a pretty good fighter. Aside from Lucian Bute destroying him, he has done pretty well when I've watched him.
I expect Cloud to big too big, too young and too hungry for him tho. Should be a good fight while it lasts.

Monte Barrett was a big enough name for Wlad and Haye to get a title shot with fwiw.

Barrett was a good fighter for what he was. Tons of heart, some boxing skill, just not a world beater.
He was def better than anyone Solis has tried to eat, I mean fight.

Solis destroyed Barret.
Besides Austin, Chisora, Harrison and Sosjnoswki are hardly better names than Solis.
Solis may not have done much to deserve a shot, but absolutely everybody else has already been beaten. If not Solis, then who else?
Besides, Solis beats all of these mentioned by me abover imo. He's a legit challenge, although like Povetkin, I would rather he worked on improving his skills and conditioning and get a couple tougher fights in first.

Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Remember Cris Arreola? Well, Arreola was 6'4 and weighed in for fights between 250 and 260 pounds. Solis is 6'1 and weighs a whopping 270 pounds for his fights. I mean that's like retardedly fat. ;D And he's a professional boxer? It's almost comical. Seriously.
The Klitschko brothers cleaned out the division, unfortunately, other than Adamek, Povetkin, and Haye, there really isn't much else out there. Solis is as good as any.
Solis KO 3
Cloud KO 4.

A shot Barret maybe.
Solis is crap.
He's fought crap.
I've seen the guy fight several times and he's a slow, plodding fat bastard, who wins his fights because of his power and the opponents are scared of him.

Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
I am starting to think Solis isnt that serious. He weighed in at 260, Ray Austin who is 6'6" 5 inches taller than Solis weighed 20 lbs less. I really dont see anything but another Sam Peter type beating if he faces a Klitchko.

I don't think he'll take a beating like Sam Peter did. Say what you will about Sam, but at least the guy has heart! I think Solis is getting by on his power and his ability to deliver punches in a proper and devistating manner, I do think he's a bit chinny though he hasn't been touched up as a pro yet. He should have no trouble with Ray Austin, though Ray could keep away from him for a while, if it gets to the 6th round Austin has a better chance of winning from then on out just due to conditioning alone.
I would love to see Solis fight a dangerous opponent not named Klitschko before he gets sent to slaughter, but oh well c'est la guerre.
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Also let it be noted that former Lou Duva protege Michael Marrone weighed in at 260 1/2 ......wow, a couple years ago he was in the 220's, he never caught my eye as an impressive fighter, but damn...did he get stung by a bee or something?

Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Walker was doing okay countering in there, but you can't fight Mayorga without head movement.
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Mayorga looked ok I guess. He doesn't look like he's in tremendous shape exactly but at the same time he didn't look that tired in the 9th.

I missed the first 5 rounds and the stream Ii was watching went in the 8th so I dont know how the fight finished. I take it Mayorga wan. Regarding him looking sub par, dont forget hes been out 2 years and didnt have much notice fo this fight either but if nothing else its given him a few decent rounds under the belt and against a fighter who should be naturally stronger too. Fair play Ricardo;)

Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Has this card started yet? Has Solis fought?
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Cloud is landing some bombs, but Zuniga comes back with something after each flurry.
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
I'm guessing Solis has been on already then? Was looking forward to watching that. What was the result?
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
I think Solis-Austin is the main event.
Cloud didn't do much that round. Just jabbed mainly and it wasn't the crispest jab either.

Cloud having a rough time in there. Zuniga is giving an honest effort.

Cool. I've got the Cloud fight on now but it's in foreign so not really watching it.
I know Lyle is big on Cloud but he doesn't excite me a great deal. He's clearly a decent fighter, wins over Johnson and Woods attest to that but he hasn't gripped me thus far. Not watchign this fight though so don't know how he is performing.
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Cloud just seems a bit sluggish to me. When he turns it on he's got too much for Zuniga but he doesn't turn it on enough.
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Just picked up on a non-english stream of this one myself. I'm assuming Zuniga is the one in the yellow shorts taking the more shots. Woods against Cloud wasn't very good at all, still not convinced that Cloud is the real deal.

Tavoris Cloud looks like another Jeff Lacy to me. Fulgencio Zuniga gave Kelly Pavlik a pretty decent fight even flooring him early in the fight, but was destroyed by Lucian Bute with a body shot. Another one of Lucian Bute's underrated wins. I'd like to see if he can go the distance with Tavoris Cloud.

From what I've seen so far Cloud not showing any real indication of getting Zuniga out of there. Landed a couple of clean straight shots, but nothing that had KO written on them.

Really? ;D
This is a sparring session. When Cloud turns it on he dominates but he's cruising too much.
His combos are great. His jab, not so much. He's willing to use it at least but its just not a great jab.

Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Zuniga is a trier though. He's certainly working harder than Cloud.

Yes because of the way he done it, no one had previously stopped Fulgencio Zungia the way Lucian Bute did. He was stopped on cuts vs Kelly Pavlik but gave a good account of himself. Fulgencio Zuniga is a pretty tough fighter.

I've never understood that saying. I mean how can anything be considered tough that falls apart and disolves in tea?

It annoys me how Cloud lets Zuniga off the ropes so easily. This is fighting at too measured of a pace.
Ice, I just don't think Zuniga is an underrated win for any top-ish level fighter.

See Peter Kay sketch about hob nobs being the marines of the biscuit world. I imagine cookies are in the same field as hob nobs rather than rich teas!

I know what your saying but its the way he done it, i personally never believed Lucian Bute would of stopped him that early. It was quite a big shock to me at the time, and as you see in this fight he is pretty tough.
Lastly i just don't think Tavoris Cloud puts enough effort in to any round, he has big gaps before he starts the offence. He done it in the Glen Johnson fight, and in the Clinton Woods fight at times aswell.
-
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
I think Cloud is more talented than Lacy with more variety as far as offensive weapons go but his stamina is a bit of an issue for me. Musclebound guys seem to have that problem.
