Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
In Dublin, March 19.
Interesting fight and one I'm looking forward to. Casey will make it a better fight than Rigondeaux's last snoozefest against Ricardo Cordoba.
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
Riogondeaux is 1/2 for this fight at SportingBet, I am piling in they sometimes get it wrong Sportingbet they are the only ones who have priced this fight up so far, I think jump on quick before the other bookies price it up for me he is more 1/5 shot.

Those are very attractive odds, Rigondeaux is going to be way too classy for Casey I reckon.
The Big Bang might have the big bang punch, put unless Rigondeaux completely neglects his preparation, then Casey shouldn't really by landing it as it is very crude.
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
Rigondeaux is already disrespecting Casey by saying he should not even be in the same ring as him. That he watched a couple of rounds of one of his fights and said he would win this easily.
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
He is now 4/9 shitt!! Might go big on this, this is free money for me, Casey is way out of his depth and seriously If i was to guess at the odds Rigo should be around 1/5 1/6.
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
I think those odds are a result of Rigondeuxs last fight, which he looked kind of pedestrian. He didnt blow out Cordoba, who got knocked out by Bernard Dunne btw...His opposition prior to that was bland. Also Cordoba dropped him and he isnt a huge puncher. Casey definately has the punchers chance IMO. I dont jump on great amateurs bandwagons this early, the pro game is a different world.
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
hi lads i wouldnt even put money on this fight. althought Guillermo Rigondeaux is a very good counter puncher casey dosnt give up and hes buckets of energy i watch him fight im limerick there 2 years ago when he was only comming up as a pro and he is a serious puncher and hes confidence much be so hight now after fighting hyland. let the bets begin
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
Mate thats fair enough but Casey is made for Rigo. ;)
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
will be a very interesting fight .
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
Casey was not favoured to win the European title against scheduled opponent Kiko Martinez.
Many were surprised when he beat actual opponent Paulie Hyland for the strap.
Guillermo Rigondeaux is in a different class to either of those fighters.
I would truely love to see Willie Casey win though.

1. He never faced Martinez so I don't get your point there
2. Who favoured Hyland over Casey? Casey was a 4/7 so who was surprised? Everyone I saw predicted a Casey win?

Like Skel said Casey was a big favourity when Hyland stepped in for Martinez, it was a really shoddy bit of matchmaking which the EBU probably shouldn't have allowed to proceed for the European title. The reason he was a scheduled underdog v Martinez is that he was probably going to get beat. Like he is in this fight.
Re: Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Willie Casey
Casey beat hyland because simply the passé was too fast for him, as i said in one of posts above hes buckets of energy
some people thinks hes out of his comfort zone now fighting sombody of Rigondeaux class but i reckon anybody in his shoes would do the same. anyway the 19th of march will show everyone how good he is or was hyland fight just his fight

Mate you seem like a sound fellow Irish man, but come on are you for real comparing Hyland with Rigo?? Hyland should never have been near a european title shot he is a limited Irish standard fighter, in reality Casey is nowhere near ready ( I dont he ever would be ) ready for a world title shot in this fight, Casey can bring his relentlessness and work rate but what does he bring that Rigo will be worried with? He does everything in straight lines he is just not in his class for me but like you say we will see come fight night. :)

Rigondeaux was off balance when Cordoba hit him with a meaningless punch. He wasn't hurt at all. These cubans because of their loose footwork will ahve a greater tendency to go down when they aren't hurt at all. We've seen it a few times from Gamboa. Casey isn't that big of a puncher, and he really doesn't sit down on his punches that effectively. From what I've seen he has decent power, and decent speed, and he's exciting but that's about it. I think RIgondeaux is going to make him timid after the first few times Rigondeaux hits him. I don't think it was a great performance by Guillermo, but he easily outboxed Cordoba, and should have only lost one or two rounds.

1. I'm implying that As Casey was never favoured to beat Martinez I cannot understand why people see an opportunity against Riggondeaux who is a much more complete fighter than Martinez.
2. Hyland was favoured by many ;)

I disagree that Casey was favoured over Hyland.

Here's the game plan the Rigondeaux used for the second half of the fight against Cordoba.

Same plan Rau'shee used to lose in the first round of the Olympics. In the am's you can get away with it, but in the pros it's hard to look like the effective aggressor when you're still getting hit and getting on the bike even if you are slightly landing more punches. It's clearly an amateur strategy that he hasn't unlearned.
Don't get me wrong, he will wipe the floor with Casey.
