Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...akcyouEu9rvra3
Ivan Calderon
Height: 5'0"
Weight: 108 pounds
Total Fights: 36
Ko victories: 6
Also former lineal champ at 108.
This thread is an offshoot of the thread made a while back asking if members here can take on Pacquiao in the boxing ring 1 on 1. So same question but different fighter and from a different weight class.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
That Pac thread was my creation. Probably my defining moment on here to be honest. ;D
Back to the question at hand:
I'm 6"2, 13 stone and have a good reach.
He'd absolutely batter me.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Of course I can
with my 200 lb buddy. And I'll be there to back him up.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Thing is we might think oh he's little and we could take him but we probably wouldn't even be able to land a single punch. A couple months back they had shane mosley on shaq versus and well shane won, and that's against another athlete that has like a foot and a half on him and outweights him by 150lbs, not just an average joe. So safe to say I'd get my ass kicked
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
If I had a year to prepare with Anglo Dundee as my trainer and was in the best shape of my life!
He'd still kick my ass!
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
People that have never even sparred have no idea how taxing it is to box.
Most regular dudes who think they're in decent physical condition will gas out in about 3 or 4 minutes of hard sparring...and then you're finished even if it's against a little guy who's in fighting trim.
"Fatigue makes cowards of us all.”

Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
If the ring is no bigger then my walk in closet....we agree to single 1x3 minute round....he wears 12 oz gloves and I wear only duct tape....Joe cortez is the ref and will spend total of 1:30 intervening and unnecessarily stopping flow of fight.....then yes, yes I could take him !!!
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
He'd knock me out with a body shot approximately 11 seconds into the first round. I would probably cry.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
If it was no rules at all, I recon he'd jump my lame attempt at a double leg sweep and spark me.
Bonus: Getting to look up the ring girls miniskirts as Im stretchered out.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Hasn't Madonna tried to adopt Calderon?
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
This guy was bordering on the p4p rankings before anyone even recognised him :D
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
i am a good swimmer so i know i can beat him.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Okay I'm 6ft 5 and weight about 105kg and iv'e got about 79'/ 80' reach so fuck it, I'm going out on a limb to say I'm pretty sure I could manage this guy for at least 2 rounds.... 5 at a push... Or however long my lungs could hold out.
I don't care, as longs as I'm fit enough, there's no way could any guy of 5ft ZERO could beat me in a fight. I don't care even if you name is Ivan Claderon, I just wouldn't let it happen.
It absolutely offends me to even consider the possibility. I mean really!!
Seriously!
Surely not!
Right? :-\
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
I think he'd beat me because the law says so. Hitting him back would be borderline child abuse. I think I'd let him hit me, say "awww bless" ruffle his head, then pick him up and take him home and keep him in a rabbit cage as a pet.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Well, if he piss me off well enough, of course! Mind you... I have excellent health benefits, Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois!

You so right. And I used to fight!!! But I fought someone smaller then me and he whipped my @$$. Speed kills. Not to mention, skills of a veteran means something.
Most dude thats thank they can beat him, will end up like Martin vs Get Hitman

Don't start that sh!t...lol

Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
I'm confident I'd be unable to hit him. I don't have a good sense of how hard a champion 108 lber hits, but I'd learn real fast.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
I did 32 lengths today and 40 yesterday
No Shit!
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Only if he's tied to the corner and I get a tire iron. Then I might have a chance...
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
I'm pretty sure I could take him..........But I could be wrong.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
There's no way anyone on this forum beats him in a boxing ring!! If it's a wrestling/anything goes match then I'm sure a lot of the bigger guys would snap him in half once they caught him. I know for a fact I'd get pounded in the space of about 30 seconds and I wouldn't even see him doing it..

Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
"Oscar sparred with Ivan Calderon, the former 105-pound champion, when I trained him for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight because I wanted someone real quick. Calderon slapped Oscar around like it was unbelievable. I said between rounds one time, “Oscar, I want you to hit him one shot to show him who’s boss.” He couldn’t do it. I got mad at him. I told him the same thing another time; we used Calderon for a couple of days. I said, “Go ahead and hit that little mother.” Again, he couldn’t do it."

I have to say I would be willing to pay $60 dollars to see Ivan Calderon beat up a regular bloke that's over 6'5" in a boxing ring. Just think how comical the sight would be, a guy that is 15 inches shorter and giving up more than 100 pounds is beating up some big guy.;D
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
He's not that heavy I think I could carry him to the ring no problem.

They would absolutely set this fight up in Japan.

Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Ivan Calderon?....I could not catch him.....I would tire out in 3 rds.....He has the punching power of an 11yr old girl....I would more or less be embaressed huffing and puffing in the ring while Ivan kept pitter pattering me into submission.....Now If I enter training camp and get some good sparring in with Zelenoff you never can tell
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
5 foot tall? I couldn't see him hurting me. I'd probably have to quit after 2 rounds and have a month in the Swiss mountains.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
If I trained hard for 2 months, I would KO him if I could catch him, which I eventually would.

Damn bully ;D

Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Well I'm 6'1 and weigh about 150lbs. Got a fairly long reach too.
So by my estimations I'd be unconscious in about 30 seconds.
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
Of course I can, I will help him through the ropes but who is he going to fight?
-
Re: Do you think you can take this guy in the boxing ring?
If I could hit him then I could hurt him.
I'm 6 foot, 175 lbs and have sparred hundreds of rounds and had 3 boxing "smokers", or unauthorized matches.
I've sparred a fair amount of professional MMA fighters, including one who is now fighting in the UFC at featherweight since the WEC just merged into the UFC.
The featherweight being 135 lbs never hurt me but he was very fast and got the better of me in sparring a couple of rounds.
Admittedly I've never sparred anyone even close to as talented as Calderon.
But I honestly do not think a 5 foot 108 lb man could hurt me, unless I absolutely fatigued myself and then I'd be screwed.
Problem is I'm not sure I could hit the man. I most likely could not.

haha yea man.
it's hard to say really. There still is some validity to the if you hit the guy logic. I know I've sparred some world class fighters in lower weights, and just the size difference alone gave them such an edge in the speed dept it is unreal. If they are defensive wizards, forget it. It's like you are better off fighting world class your own weight, then some tiny midget. At least if you get smashed, you prob get a few in, and won't look or feel nearly as stupid doing so.

Your a lot better boxer than me. So I'll let you try Calderon first. ;D
