It's not on my PSN. I wonder if it's on the 4th as it's the 4th of march it is released in the UK.
Hmmm...? The only thing I can suggest is to get on the PSN forums and see who's braggin.
There's a ton of Europeans on the EA forums who have it, I just don't know if there XBL or PSN?
For what it's worth, I'm downloading mine right now. Yours must be up by now ;)
I really like this demo! But Ali's just too good for me, if I don't drop him in at least two of the rounds I always lose (had one draw). Haven't tried the little guys yet, I like playing as Tyson too much
;D I'll sort of start with the negatives...
It takes some getting used too.... Every time EAsports mess with the configurations it feels like someone has wired my hands back-to-front! ;D
The blocking system is so basic, you just press block and no matter where the punch is thrown, you block it... Which sounds really shit (and felt completely bolloxed at first) but the clever thing about it is you can destroy/ move their guard with some specifically placed punches (i.e jab, flared jab).
Now that sounds straightforward (and clever) enough but the Full-Spectrum system will have you throwing overhand lefts in the place of flared jabs a good few-hundred times before you finally get the hang of it... It's infuriatingly hard to use instinctively... However you will get the hang of it.
Captain America was right, Ali is impossible to outbox. I havn't enough skill to make every punch count so I've no hope of knocking him out however I have knocked him down and BOOOOOY it felt good!
The animations are excellent, more than ever do you feel like the character your fighting with. They way they move, punch, react, cut etc... It's amazingly immersive but only once you really begin to get to grips with it.... S basically, when you're not suffering from operating error, this game without a doubt offers the most realistic boxing experience I've enjoyed.
You can lunge in with punches now (for example Mayweather's jab to the body or Lunging left-hook), or slide-back and punch more effectively. You can also put extra steak on every single punch you throw (including the jab) so your repertoire has the potential to be ultra dynamic with a almost limitless amount of pugilistic opportunities. However, every punch (including punches to the body) has it's own individual rating so that makes the need to box effectively within your own limitations VERY interesting!
Good game. Just need to learn how to Knock mother fuckers out.?!
Captain America, I had the same problem as you. I just can't out-box Ali and I haven't enough skill yet to really make my big punches count.
I've knocked him down with a couple of sneaky* overhand rights but the fucker gets back up.
*I tried to set the pattern of ' 1st, walking Ali down with a basic 1-2 then once Ali inevitably backed off, I'd lunge-jab downstairs then hook the liver sliding to the left a couple of times before I then lunge-jab the body lean left and then really put some steak on the overhand-right
Oh, and I think Spammers will have trouble this year. Your arms can wear out :D
Hmm, EA are buggers for messing with the config on every game they do, so thats no suprise, just staggered at the amout of changes made.
Is it good enough for me to dig out my x-box, dust it off and start playing again thats the question!!??
Just read this on Fight Night Blog:
There is no need to choose a blocking direction. If you or your boxer’s Reflexes are up to the task your boxer will move their arms to the right spot. This allows you to throw punches while holding down the Block, making the transition from Defense to Offensive a little quicker.
Silly me. I never thought of it from that Angle. Boxers now have a reflex rating so you can punch/block and rely on your fighters block strength/ and reflex for (probably very brief) periods of time...
Jimanuel Boogustus, I'm decent at countering, but Ali moves too much for me, and uses his reach better than most. I'm more of a feet planted kind of fighter. When I can sucker him into exchanging with me (if I jab and jog for a min, he'll sometimes come in and try to flurry me), I can win rounds (happened five times). He's just too smart, I had the same problem with Ali in FNR4 (I'm 6-5 over him in career), so really, it's just my limitations as a "boxer" combined with his greatness.
Oh, something else I really liked, I had Ali rocked against the ropes, I tried to finish him, just couldn't penetrate his guard. After I gassed myself out, he landed a counter left hook that KO'd me! Minute and a half in the first round and I'm out! I didn't even get to try and stand up!
Hahaha! I just lost a decision I should've won and Teddy Atlas was shit talking the judges! And it's REALLY hard to lose as Pacquiao
One word describes the Demo.... Amazing.
Now I really can't wait for the full game, It looks like there is a lot more in the ams which is something I wanted them to add to and the barefist looks graet too, add to that the champion mode and we have a potential great boxing game finally!!
I really like this demo, it seems so much more realistic from the way the fighters move to the way they throw the punches. It takes some getting used to, its about time you get flash knockouts too. The video for Champion mode looks amazing, seems like they've really tried to get a proper story that focuses on life outside the ring too. I think its a massive step up from FNR4, really impressed with it so far.
One thing that annoys me is I keep getting one punch KO'd by Pacquiao  I managed to put him down once but he got back up and took me out later in the same round
What's the point me buying this game if froch isn't on it
Don't they usually put out updates with more fighters on them? In Round 4 didn't they add like 10 boxers?
I still play FN4 all the time even after 18 months
anyway i downloaded demo and had couple of games - initially i don't like it ! (but I'm bound to say that right as its change !?)
Seems clunkier and you don't get the same effect for punches landing as you did in FN4
I was one punch kayoed though - no ref count - so thats a good sign as we not had that for years
I will persevere am sure it will grow on me.
Also dont like the fact you can use buttons. Fine in legacy mode but online I dont want to fight guys using buttons
1. Better since buttons are used over analog stick
2. Punches are faster
3. Pacquiao looks like Pacquiao in this one:)
Everything about Pacquiao is phenomenal in this game.
I've been finding it impossible to beat Ali. I know I'm not very good at these games which is why I've struggled to get wins against the CPU, but it's so difficult to beat him. The best I've done is get a draw when I've knocked him down in one of the rounds, but even then you can't finish him off. I've pretty much given up trying after the last time. I floored him with a body shot about 90 seconds into the first, but I couldn't get close the rest of the fights. I usually have some success if I drive him back into the ropes and mix up combinations to the body and head, and I can land some good counters after slipping some of his punches, but he usually flurries and gets the better of the exchanges.
Love the game though, seems much more realistic and I really like the different punch variations you can throw. The champion mode looks excellent too.
Wahoo! 3 consecutive 3rd round KO's of Ali! That felt good
buttons shouldnt be allowed !
one thing i have noticed is that my boxer throws a right hook after jabbing even though all i want to do is jab ??
anyone else noticed this ( i use Cotto)
can't help feeling its gone a bit arcadey....
I thought it was shit, at first.
Mark, are you winning a lot of fights yet?
am winning on points against Pac with cotto (not with Tyson v Ali)
problem with router at mo so can't go online
have not knoced anyone down yet.
just seems much faster and more Hagler v Hearns, which is good yes but I like a bot of tactics too and 'staying away' etc and flicking the jab. Don't seem to be able to do that much
Yeah in regards to the frantic feel to it... I think the AI is simply tuned into 3 round fights at the minute.
Once your fighting 12 rounders, I think you'll see are much more sophisticated AI.
I mean there are things like the 'Regional Anaerobic Fatigue' (or separate stamina gauges for separate parts of the body) that have been introduced, that can't really come into play over the course of three rounds.
Also, the fighters have separate ratings for each and every individual punch, including body punches, so you have to kinds rehash your repertoire to accommodate.
Mark, how often are you using the 'Punch Modifier Button'?
I hardly ever used Haymakers on any version of Fight Night but I have to be honest, they are very necessary if you want to score Knock Downs. Just look at the post fight analysis and see how many punches your opponent is putting some steak on. When you fight Ali, he pretty much loads up every time he plans his feet. So you have to work towards that kind of ethos.
Oh an yes, Ali is a fucking beast!
am not using it that much ! Keep forgetting about it to be honest. Still not come round to the fact that haymakers are gone and you are just powering up your normal punches.
come to think of it is there a signature punch for a fighter ?? hope this hasn't gone , used to love the one where you stuck your chin ou then ducked and threw a right hook ;D Looked great when you got a knockdown from it
Played for ten min and is dogshit. I hit Ali like a hundred times with Tyson and all a sudden my stam is down and his health is same as mine???? Unrealistic but gd graphics.
Bring back round 3 engine with champion graphics
I have a really hard time dropping a man after I hurt him, sometimes I can rock a guy 5-6 times, but I only drop him on a flash knock down or KO. Any suggestions?
Not sure if this is the right thread to post in, but could someone quickly say what the best or some of the best boxing games on the PC are please?
I don't really game much at all, but could do with one to mess around on and don't have a console aside from an ancient N64 that probably doesn't work ;D Cheers
Well I know that when a fighter is in a stunned state, they have considerably slower/ limited foot & head movement.
So in this situation, the only option available to your opponent is to cover up and/or grab hold, which is only really possible if the momentum is with them (i.e you are off balance from either a missed punch, leaning or ducking while in no position to punch, or just dog tired and can't react quick enough).
Apart from holding/ covering up, there is the option of bravely fighting back hoping the the stun state disappears soon enough.
For you, two things are important. Composure and POWER. You have to be more methodical in your aggression at this point than any imo.
First, you must always be aware of momentum.
By momentum, I mean keeping your self in perpetual motion with a simple view to avert being clinched. Sound's simple but the momentum part is the key.
Secondly, because your opponent will more than likely want to keep a tight guard you will have to 'get him on the go'. For me, that means breaking his guard down with jabs/ flared jabs/ straights and then unloading with POWER shots was their guard unravels.
If you have him 'on the go', the power shots get the job done.
Of course the desperate clinch comes out from time to time but the thing to remember is that as long as you don't concede momentum, their attempt to clinch will just be offset but you punching them in the face
Still the same lack of total punch controls we saw in round 4. Pressing the stick up down left and right or diagonally and holding a button to modify the power?
That is basically button controls, you do not have anything resembling total punch control any more... you're just using the analogue stick as a glorified set of buttons that you flick instead of pressing.
Dumbed the finesse and control of throwing combos and shots from different angles right down.
The stamina and punch ranges are supposed to add realism, but as is often the case with games like these... the more realistic you try to make them - the less realistic they seem.
