In detail please! Could/can superman win a world title again?
If not why not?
No.
He is a shadow of a shadow of his former self.
Hope this helps.
Would u say it's because he doesn't or won't pull the trigger now?? Because he still he still has fastest hands
He's fast but so what? He doesn't use his speed against guys who can hit him. . Who could he beat now? Mayber Brahmer but he loses to all of the other champs from light heavy and higher
yes he can because there are 18 WBA title per weight class right now. He could easily be the interm-super-inter-continetal-pan-african-jr-light-cruiserweight Champion of the World!!!
Until they strip him of course...:p
Ha ha very valid points....
But on the topic from the poster who started the thread the answer is no Roy can not...
Why? Have you seen his last 5 fights?
Hand speed- No he is not that fast anymore...No faster then most of the prime fighters at LHW or CW..
Jones should retire before he gets hurt
Roy needs to be satiSfied with title of clear headed grandfather, able to hold a conversation and not be feeding through a straw. And we as fans need to let even the greats go. He's done, fini, over and was never a gambling man...shouldn't start now.
Sometimes it's hard to let go of these great fighters/performers. I appreciate that no one lasts forever but he was pretty awesome regardless what bhop says
He should stick to the 'an audience with' nights he has started to do recently.
if he can make 168lbs and vargas wins a couple of fights whats the betting we see jones vs vargas:eek:
In short No he can not. IMO he is the greatest fighter of the last 25 years but for me he peaked around 13-14 years ago and as someone said earlier he is a shadow of the shadow of the man he once was. Yes he still has SOME handspeed but his footwork is gone he has no punch resistance and the one thing that people say is the last thing to go has long gone and that is his power. He hasn't starched anyone in real style since Glen Kelly in 2002 but if you watch this video look how much more mobile he is and look at the range of punches he is using really pounding the body and digging in when he throws a punch. He hasn't done any of this really since he came back down from HW. I just wish he had retired when the Tyson fight never materialised!

Jones was def the best pound 4 pound since sugar ray rob. But the muscle he lost for tarver destroyed him. He def cannot pull the trigger anymore so he needs to just stick to commentry.
I'm bout to start another thread on jones calzaghe
I agree, his reactions are not up to how he thinks in the ring anymore.
Last vision I have of him was turning sideways trapped in a corner and forgetting to put his arm up in time.
Shame we had to see that.
maybe a WBA title. They will sell titles to anyone.
Dude I disagree on one thing....he is still really fast!! I saw him live against danny green and the one or two punches he did throw were like lightening, everyone else in the arena was like holy fuck this guy is quick and then it was lights out lol But he still has quicker hands then alot of guys fighting these days.
RJJ never learned how to fight- I said for years that he didn't have the heart for a fight. Once his natural skills slipped, he had nothing. The greatest crime in the history of boxing is that Toney didn't bother to train to fight Jones and, at that, Jones never hit him to speak of. (the 'knockdown' was jones missing a wild hook and falling into Toney)
That said, Jones just might win another world title. If Holyfield is still a "world" champion, then I hereby declare myself the JBF (joe's boxing federation) world champ at 168, 175, 195, and heavyweight. I will fight RJJ at the time and place of his choosing, provided he can guarantee me $100k for each of my titles that I will be risking that night.
The Green fight was such a shocker to me I have to admit I did not pay attention to his speed.....Maybe I consider him not so fast anymore because I judge him by his former self....I rtemember Jones at SMW and I used to be in awe of the mans ability and fact he could hold his hands behind his back and still connect against P4P ranked fighters.....
Aside from it all though I really do fear for his safety...He is gun shy at times a dangerous thing for any fighter and his natural ability all around has left him.....Speed is great to have but if it is all he has then that is not good for him....6 of his 7 losses came min his last 11 fights...3 of them were stoppages....2 of the 3 were frightful stoppages....Jones is a decent fellow I just hate seeing any fighter let alone an ATG carry on like this
Yeah mate i must admit jones speed really wasnt what anyone paid attention to in that fight lol But being that when i did boxing training and also martial arts the one thing i always got complimented on was my hand speed, i love having quick hands so ive always been in awe of guys like roy jones and mayweather. It was my dream come true to see roy live (even though he got fuckin hammered i still saw him) and when he threw those few punches i was like "holy fuck, i thought my hands were quick...fuck fighting this bloke" (although we all know id knock him out these days...not much of an accomplishment :lickish: ) . I do agree he was heaps quicker back in the day but he was definitely alot quicker then green on the night, he just had the wrong game plan. I still maintain that if he had of came out firing lead right hands ala ali vs foreman then he could of knocked green out in the first round (mundine caught green at will but doesnt have the power of rj) but he was way to cautious.
Roy Jones resistance to punches will let him down against a legitimate fighter for a real title.
yeah he can win a title & holyfield could win a true heavy title if wlad & vitali retire. cos as mentioned earlier so many titles & some weak weigh catagories
No. Roy never reinvented his fight style as he got older. He is still trying to win with the formula that beat Toney and the good fighters of the 90s. To old now. U just dont make adjustments during 1 fight, U must make adjustments when u are an older fighter. Hopkins did it beautifully. Roy didnt
