how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
Long time admirer of sergio since his stint in the states. But for the first williams fight and the refereeing in the cintron fight he has pretty much cleaned up 2 divisions in half a dozen or so fights
i honestly now see sergio beating both cotto and margarito which leads me to the question of how well he would fair against the 2 future hall of famers and boxing greats of our time
lets say its catchweight anywhere between 150-152 - how does sergio fair against either fighter??

At that weight he'd lose, mainly because he said he can't get below 155 anymore, so at 150 the man would be a corpse. If it was at a catchweight of 155, I think he'd have a chance against Pac, mainly because as he's going up in weight Pac is feeling the weight of some of those shots and Sergio is no mug. Mayweather would be interesting, but I'd think Mayweather would be able to outbox him.
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
Like BZKFN said I can't see martinez under 155 any more but at MW IMO he beats both....Unlike Mosley if Martinez hurt Mayweather he would not back off he would go in for the kill plus he has 1 punch power and he is damn fast for a 36yr old MW and he uses the ring to his advantage has great foot work and will box with his hands up if he feels as though there is a chance he is going to get caught........At lower weights I can't say but at 160 Martinez beats them both....This guy is not second rate fighter and he deserves his #3 P4P ranking for sure....I actually put him at #2 since Floyd is only a part time fighter these days

At 154 or above he beats Pacquiao. Mayweather would be tough. But, I'll be honest, I think he has a very tough fight in Dzinziruk coming up. Let's see him get by Sergiy first.
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
I honestly think they both take him, Sergio has shown the ability to land a huge shot like he did on Paul Williams in the first round of their first fight, and the lefthands he landed on PW and Cintron respectively. However Floyd is obviously harder to hit than either of them. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are faster than him which has been Sergio's biggest advantage, and because of his poorer balance and basics the two of them would have a way to exploit things slower guys can't. Martinez isn't a great boxer, he's a tremendous athlete with good cooditioning and a really awkward style with a lot of speed.
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
I think Martinez beats them both, as long as it's not below 155. He has some speed, and the one punch power to drop both of them. Both Pac and Floyd don't have enough power to do any real damage to him, and Martinez boxing skills can hang around with both of them. He also has about a 4" height advantage over Pac, and about 2 " on Floyd, and i think he will be too big for both of them.

I agree. Because of his size, skill, and unorthodox style, I think Martinez is the only man in boxing who has a good chance of beating Pac or Mayweather.
He's simply too big for them to fight though.
UNLESSS it was at 154. Nothing below that however or it would drain Martinez too much as others have said.
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
Probably beat both but Floyd stands a better chance.
Just looked at his record, he fought our Richard Willams twice and Adrian Stone, but have no memory of him coming here.
He also lost to Margarito, so that would be a good return.
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
Great chance that he beats them both at Middleweight (Floyd and Pac never fought beyond 154 )
I'll favor the two @155 and below.

How can you say they don't have the power to do real damage to him? Pacquiao badly hurt Margarito, turned Clottey into a punching bag, and dropped Cotto. Floyd made both Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley feel his power. People don't realize that smaller guys can still hurt bigger opponents even if they can't take them out. It's like saying Martinez wouldn't be able to hurt Pavlik because he was a natural 154 pounder or welterweight and Pavlik was a really big middleweight.
I still don't think Martinez for the most part is a big puncher, I think one in a thousand shots he lands might be enough to ko Floyd or Pacman, but the likelihood of him landing one of those punches that neither of these guys see is unlikely.

I don't believe Pacquiao is big enough to fight the best middleweight in the world. P4P he is better but he is too small for Martinez. He reached his limit at 150, which is why he has opted to go back down to 147 to fight Mosley. His team would sign up to fight Martinez if they had the same confidence you had. Instead, they decided to fight Shane Mosley and I bet Juan Manuel Marquez in his next fight. We can agree on the fact that Shane right now at 147 and Marquez right now at 147 are easier fights for Pacquiao than Sergio Martinez above 155. Right? Anyway, Sergio is #3/4 p4p in the world on most people's lists and Shane isn't even on lists. He isn't a bigger name either.
Floyd fought effectively at 154 against Oscar, which is why I'm hesitant to say that Martinez is too big for him.

Yes pac hurt Margs, whos is a slow come straight forward fighter. We can all agree Clottey didn't come to fight, and he was never hurt in the fight. He just stood there and covered up. And yes he dropped a past his prime Cotto. This is not to take anything away from Pac, he came in and took care of business. Cotto and Clottey probably came in fight night around 155 and margs probably 160. Now come fight night with Martinez he's probably going to be 170 lbs. And from his last few fights Pac is only rehydrating a few pounds, and is struggling to make the limit for that matter. So a 150 lb Pac vs a 170 lb Martinez...i got Martinez any day. just too big for Manny to do any damage. But if anybody was to prove me wrong it would be Pac.

PacStarightLeft, and why can't you see his sig?
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
I think at his proper weight he beats them both. Neither has faced one that big with mix of speed, agility and mix of power and confidence.
Re: how would sergio martinez fare against pacquiao/mayweather??
None of them have faced an unorthodox, "Pandora's box" opponent like Sergio Martinez. Oh yeah, Mayweather did fight Augustus way back and, like everyone else, had some trouble with him. As for Pacquiao, I don't think he's fought anyone who throws away the textbook in style.
