Tyson Fury and Racism
Can I make a plea that we do not allow racist jokes and comments be allowed to continue every time we get a Tyson Fury thread. It is offensive and we should not allow it to continue without challenge please.

Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
He should uppercut himself more often.

Now that is funny stealing from washing lines is not.

Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
Agreed. Tis a wee bit distasteful.
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
So Mods and posters you going to listen?
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
Dude, the washing line joke is a post against things that do occasionally happen. People need to lighten up about stuff, I would hardly describe it as racist. I'm ginger, and jokes about gingers really aren't offensive because I learned to lighten up. - It's a joke, thus not meant to be taken seriously!
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
That was one example there were countless others which are stereotyping a group unfairly.
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
Can you provide a link or some examples?
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
Do not know how to do links but most Tyson Fury threads and the Tyson Fury match up looks promising page 3 with reference to Pikey, not paying taxes, etc. Also the one about his dad being sent down from what I recall. I read them at work at did not like what I read but never commented on the threads.

I was the one who mentioned about his dad being sent down. Did you not read what that guy did?

Honestly man, I don't get how people get so sensitive about a joke. That is what it is meant to be - a joke. Really, nobody is sat here honestly believing that if Fury doesn't end up to be a world champion, the man is going to start stealing from washing lines. Like I say, I revealed on here I was ginger, and Booze called me firecrotch, and I took it to be the joke it was.

Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
Actually Otley was worse so I am not singling you out. I just thought anyone that saw that on the main boards would not be happy especially if you were of that origin.

Yeah I saw what he said. He seems to have real disdain for 'em. I was just joking with it. But I thought I was being singled out, since most of what you commented on was based on what I'd said in that one post. Still, I have nothing against Gypsys.

If you see something that you think is racist or overly offensive, I suggest you either report the post or send me (or another mod) a PM about it with a link. We'll look into all complaints.

HA! I completely forgot the whole "firecrotch" description, we will have to remember that one!
But you are right. People should lighten up. I tell self-deprecating stories about myself or my situations/background; I think it is one of the best uses of an online forum.
I think time could be better spent than to be taking up for some shitty heavyweight with a fabricated name (and no, don't send me the article about how his trainer couldn't believe it was his real name....but it in fact was.)
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
Im sorry but i have to say WTF, as Missy says, Pikey is not a race , so how can it racist ?
Fury is a white male and a pikey , i am a white male and if i call him a pikey it cannot be racist as i am the same RACE as him?
The race card is played all to easily and i am sick of it.
the end.

It made me smile.
That is until I looked down and realised that there isn't a cure, and I'll never be able to put the fire out.

No but it was on the main board so anybody could have read it and if you were from that community then you would not like it. I have never heard the term Pikey until I watched the film Snatch and it was used in a derogatory way in there.

I do and don't agree with you.
Gypsy's are not actually a race. But they still actively try to set themselves apart and they do see themselves as a breed apart. Their customs, traditions and even morals are vastly different than ours and I an completely comprehend why people can dislike them.
I would also like to add that I have seen travellers play the race card on numerous occasions to tilt odds in their favour. You can't have butter on both sides, you can't complain that you are discriminated one day and then belittle and in some cases intimidate so called settled" people.

gypsies/rom are an ethnic group. Tyson Fury and irish tinkers, pikeys are not.
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
:o
Ignorance... Nice
Missy, now I suspect your being racist without even knowing it.
If Tynkers are of a specific gene pool, how can they not be considered an Ethnic group?
For example, just because Hindu speaking Indians and Romanian Gypsies practically speak the same language, it doesn't mean they fall into the same ethnic group, does it.
(no I know you didn't know that and yes I am re-educating your apparent ignorance)
Anyway if it isn't, it's still derogatory, it's still social prejudice, it actually stems from Xenophobia and has absolutely no place on the main board.
Pikey is a bad word :(
-
Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
All the pikeys i've ever come across have been fucking murder. So the score is now that - you're a wrong'un for calling pikeys pikey?
deary deary me...

You see Missy, The thing is they see themselves as a different breed.
In Irish history the British Empire forced Irish families and tribes from their land. The famous Cromwell quote was "to hell or to Connaught." Later the British allowed Irish people to take up small plots of land with two options; convert to British rule and the Church of England or pay heavy rates to take up land.
The travellers derive from those that never took up land and refused to pay anything towards the British Empire. Rather than taking up land they lived as nomads and quickly garnered a bad reputation. This has a point, I swear ;D
Today, Irish travellers/pikeys remain very traditional, many still live nomadic lives, they speak in a fashion which is a direct translation of the old irish language and retain old traditions such as "NA DEISE" or faction fighting.
However, my main point is they still only marry other travellers as it is seen as shameful to "breed" with anyone outside of other families they feel have endured and set themselves apart as a different breed.

Re: Tyson Fury and Racism
by your definition the inbred southerners are just a different race.
gypsies are not one type either. I don't need preaching at regarding the rom cultures.
TF ain't a gypsy.

Al, it is more than colour of skin, the law says you can be racist to Jew, Irish and Scottish.
-
Whatever law says that is fucking stupid. Can you be a bigot towards those cultures? Sure. Can you be an anti-semite to the Jews? Yes. But racist? No, they are races ergo you can't be racist to them UNLESS you pick on their RACE and are of a different race yourself....that's how racism works, that's why its called racism instead of Meany-ism or something more general.

Depends on your previous relationship with them...
There are a couple in our boxing club, alright guys and I can openly share opinions about travellers and they don't mind.
However If I said anything like that to a traveller I didn't know I'd get messed up. Not that I'd be saying anything offensive or denigrating- they are just extremely concious of their status.
