Post a pic of your local
Did this about four years ago but have moved now so it's a revised thread - thats new
Really pleased with my new local - The Ings - pic below. Proper traditional pub that is for drinkers only. Doesn't do food (peanuts at best) and doesn't let kids in - not many places like that left these days thats for sure. Sort of place you can go in on your own no problem and just have a beer.
Only thing missing is a pool table mind :-\
The other pub nearby is geared towards eaters only and doesn't seem keen on having people who just drink in - how shite is that.

VC- from the outside that looks like a proper saloon! Looks stunning inside.
I'm about to buy my local and turn it into a house to live in. I can finally say I live in a pub! (all be it we won't sell beer and stuff because I'll live in it)

whereabouts in England mate - forget where you're from...

In Plymouth.
I'll try see if I can get some of the plans up. Its absolutely huge!
The chap who bought it before us has unfortunatley taken the bar out, which is a shame, but it still has the cellar which will eventually become my games room/ gym!

Inside an inland Aussie pub.
Note the VB signs thats the beer for here, not Fosters.

Re: Post a pic of your local
likewise Andre a lot of our places are well modern now and 'wanky' bars. give me the low ceilings and fires anyday.
Was just reading abut how the Ings managed to stay a 100% wet pub - more should give it a go though guess difficult in these times.
Hopefully will one day visit an ozzie pub ;)

I agree.
Not enough actual pubs. I love a good old fashioned pub.

Good thread, Mark. I'll post a picture of my local watering hole sometime soon.
I read an article in the paper over here in the states that the traditional English pub is a dieing breed. That's a shame. When I spent a summer studying in Stratford Upon Avon, the pubs were the best part.

Re: Post a pic of your local
That is the "Dixie Chicken" located in College Station, Texas. Bilbo, you won't see cards played there but we do have a game called "42" that is played with dominoes and while there is no piano player there is an aquarium with rattlesnakes in it. No liquor is served there but you can bring in your own bottle. All in all it is a great place to drink a cold beer and relax.

Re: Post a pic of your local
Just beer and sangria, but like I said you can bring in a bottle of bourbon, rum etc.
If you decide you want a shot this place is next door

I find that really interesting. As far as I know, there isn't a public place in the entire country of Canada that will allow you to bring in your own bottle of booze and drink it there. Definitely a cultural difference there...

Re: Post a pic of your local
Ultimately it is up to the owner but it is not uncommon for places that only have a beer license to allow patrons to bring in liquor, but you gotta buy the mixers from them. Pretty common for new restaurants to open before they have a beer or liquor license and will allow you to bring your own booze.

Re: Post a pic of your local
ah right I get it now. Didn't realise beer and liquour were two different things covered under two licences.
In England its all same thing

I was thinking the same. A pub that doesn't serve acohol, isn't that just a town hall or social club?
-
Re: Post a pic of your local
over here a pub that doesn't serve alcohol is.....uhhhhhh.....a room ??
-
Re: Post a pic of your local
Laws regulating alcohol are pretty local in the U.S. There are still counties in Texas that are dry. Oklahoma regulates the alcohol content in its beer. Some cities in Texas bars serve till 2AM others it varies by the day. So on and so forth.
-
If this doesn't look like a place to have a glass smashed over your head, dragged across the bar and comedy thrown out of, I don't know what is.
Looks really wild western. Is that themed or is that design still going on all over?

The Dry Bean and the Chicken are part of a bar district across from Texas A&M University called Northgate. I tried finding a photo of the whole thing but I couldn't. There are a group of four bars that were the originals and still have a very early 20th century look. Most of the bars in Northgate don't look like something out of a western film though, but whats fun about that.;D

I think it looks great. I'd love to have a few there and shoot some pool.
Maybe a 10 pace stand off too!

No, I grew up and went to school in CS. My old man teaches at A&M. I'm stationed at Fort Hood right now and make it back to see my folks around once a month. Love that town. You a student?

Did any of you slackers click on the Portsea hotel link?.. those are the exact views we have when we sit out on the grass outside the bar in the sun. Tough life on a sunny day.
