Game of Thrones (spoilers)
But this could be the greatest TV show ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ixEWrTLiZg
HBO's doing it and its based on some amazing books by a guy named George R.R. Martin. Kind of like the Lord of the Rings if the Lord of the Rings had been really really good. Instead of ambiguously gay duos and elves, you have sister fucking and lots of people dying.
And its HBO which means it almost certainly will be good. The first season covers the first book and it premieres April 17th.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Ouma, I'm feeling this. Definately. Nothing wrong with it. To be honest the funny thing is I was on the HBO website today checking out their TV Series for something new to watch. I'm really not a big advocate of TV at all and very rarely sit down to watch anything. Got into Prison Break real bad a long while back before it turned to shit.
I'm absolutely gonna be checking this program out no worries. Looks very interesting. There was a few on the HBO site that took my fancy to be honest for passing some time. Like the look of Boardwalk Empire and also Bored To Death. Another is The Wire, which I have only yesterday watched the very first Episode. Introduced to that by Koppas, but wasn't overly enamoured with it. Just dLing episode 2 to give it another chance.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
I'm with you - this series looks great. Sean Bean plays the living hell out of characters in this genre.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
The books are brilliant. I've recommended them to a number of people, some who would never read "fantasy" and every single person has now read all four of them. Its not really much about magic or anything like that, for the most part. The problem is there's supposed to be like seven, its about 6 years since the last one and the guy's like 60 and very overweight. So I don't know if its going to be resolved. But each season will cover one book (assuming it goes more than a year.)
Actually I like the Lord of the Rings just fine. I didn't love the books or the movies but I liked them. But this is totally different.

I'm actually very excited about this series now too..... Good times.
On a side note, I finished Episode 2 of The Wire first season, and i'm in.......... Downloading the third now. Ha... Great second ep.......

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
The Wire is maybe the greatest TV show ever made.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Looks like its going to be shown on something called Sky Atlantic in the UK. I don't know if it will start in April like it will here.
There are some fairly big names. Sean Bean obviously, and Peter Dinklage is a very good actor and he's playing probably the best character in the whole series.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
This does look good. Coming so soon after Spartacus, Gods of the Arena though it will have to be amazing to compete with the epicness of that show.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
I liked the first season of Spartacus. Once they got over those ridiculous battle scenes it got good. But I haven't seen the prequel season yet.

HBO
HBO released the first fifteen minutes as a sneak peek.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Boromir returns!!!
God bless HBO for making these shows that are carving the way past the popcorn cookie cutter garbage that 90% of television is stuffed with...
Hopefully they make it a decent series and not one of those tiny 6 or 8 episode ones.... Just when you really get to love i,t you have to wait a year for Season 2...
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
I just watched the first 15 minute preview and I think it looks awesome....
Even if there isn't that much action but just lots of talking and scenery and mood and stuff, that would be great.... A bit like Deadwood... It just puts you right in that old settler town and not an incredible lot goes on, but it just puts you right there...
I can see myself absolutely loving this show....
When does it start?
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
April 17 here, I don't know if it will come to Australian TV but obviously you can download it. The first season will be ten episodes.
There maybe won't be all out action every episode but there will be a shitload of stuff going on, lots of different storylines.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Just watched the first episode. Terrific start, looks like it's going to be a fanastic show.
How many books are there Ouma? Really likeing the look of this so far..
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
4, and the fifth is finally supposedly about to come out. Long ones, 800-1000 pages but their a breeze to read.
I still haven't seen it :p After all the waiting. Finally, tonight I'm back to civilization and can download it.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Its already been renewed for a second season.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Ouma, just downloaded the first episode of GOT, really can't wait to watch, will dive on for a quick review in how ever long it will take to watch. Good times.......

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Fucks sake, it was an INSIDE program introducing the program, idiot. Just found the real Episode One, 45 Mins for download wait time. I like to believe good things come to those who wait....

It definitely is good. I was hoping for something decent and it gripped me from the opening sequence. Not much of Bean, but that's good as it means the other characters are all well rounded.
I reckon this will be my favourite show for the rest of this year.
This and Spartacus Gods of the Arena in the same year, spoilt.

Excellent, I've been looking forward to watching ever since Ouma started this thread. Haven't seen any of the new Spartans Series, although I really enjoyed the previous. Watched it with my wife, every episdoe, she seemed to love the raunchiness of it, spot on, aside from the GAY scenes, obviously, thats not where I graze.

Even though Bean was the big name to go along with the show, its not like Ned is even the main character in any real sense. He kind of is, if anyone is I guess but its a big ensemble. All the kids are very important and Tyrion, the dwarf, is hands down the best character in the book. If the actor playing him isn't right the whole thing will be off IMO, but Peter Dinklage is pretty good usually.
Anyway, I'll finally watch it in a few hours. I've resolved to not be one of those people who bitch and moan constantly about things being changed from the books.

I've already taken to the dwarf. They call him the imp, and disrespect him, but meanwhile he fucks all the birds. Reminds me of my good self.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
The blonde girl in this beautiful by the way, best looking girl in any series in the past few years I would say. Only Evangaline Lilly really competes.
Emilia Clarke is her real name, plays Dany Stormborn. Wow :lickish:

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Just got all the books for my Kindle on Demonoid.
Love my kindle :)

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
OumaFan is a definite fan of incest :)
Seriously though this is going to be a great show!! I loved the first episode. I will probably get around to reading the books someday, but my queue to read is so long as is.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
I liked it. Stayed very close to the book which is fine by me. I assumed they'd have the cliffhanger ending and they did.
The guy who plays Viserys, Dany's brother, was very good. So was Cersei.
The good thing is HBO apparently seems fine with the budget for the show. That was the main problem with Rome.

What do they mean by POV Ouma? I know it means point of view (learnt that from porn 8) ) so I assumed that meant that each chapter would be narrated by a particular character but I've just started reading book one on my Kindle and that is not the case.
Does it just mean that each chapter is named after a character?
I'm just reading a book about extremists at the minute, but as soon as that's out the way I'm totally going to get into the first book.
Thought the first episode was about as good as television drama gets.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Well its not so much narrated by the character as it is seen through their eyes. For the most part. Or its at least always about that character.

I'm looking forward to starting it next week.
Are there any scenes in the book where Dany gets raped, forced to have sex with a naked fairy nymph or just sticks a wizard's staff up her pussy?
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Hmmm. No. She is maybe slightly slutty?

I fucking hope so.
Not since the lovely Evangaline Lilly has there been such hotness on the small screen.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
She was like 14 in the books originally, something like that. They moved it up to 16 or 17 or so and I assume that's because its not kosher to have a 14 year old girl get fucked on TV. Its not porn but there were two sex scenes in the first episode and she was naked and I assume that's not the last time you'll see her naked.
I haven't read the first book in ages but I assume the next episode will be a bit slower. As in no kids will be thrown out of windows. I did check the book and the first episode covered about 80 pages or so which is a good pace, its around an 800 page book and there are 10 episodes. Obviously some things were left out and there's far more background info about the characters in the book but they did a good job IMO.
The scale of the wall was especially good IMO. You'll see more of it in the next episode I'm sure.

I loved it, thought it had the makings of an epic.
And that girl is just beautiful. I'm really hoping that chief savage passes her around his tribe like her brother threatened. Horses would be cool too.
Really I'd quite like them to take a break from progressing the story and just concentrate on some serious Daenerys porn.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
NVM, found it on Demonoid.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Basically its about the political life of this place while there are two main external threats, the "Others" (and for some reason I never noticed before that Lost stole the name "The Others", they don't refer to them as that in the show, mainly the White Walkers, but in the books they're called the others or the white walkers) and Dany and her brother. You'll just have to see how important the others are, its a bit of a spoiler and I'm trying to avoid that. Bilbo, read the books so I can talk about this with somebody else. There are a ton of spoilers.
My only main spoiler is: people will die. I already said that, so its not much of a spoiler.
the more I think about it, Lost stole a lot from this. Not the subject matter obviously, but some things. The main guys behind Lost have said they're huge fans. And George Martin was a fan of Lost although he has said that he's worried about "pulling a Lost" as far as fucking up the ending.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
There are some "fantasy" moments, the "Others" and other stuff that I'm not going to go into into, but its not as magic heavy as the Lord of the Rings, its more a medieval story with "fantasy" elements.
-
Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
I'm definitely going to start reading Ouma.
Also, I even loved the intro credits, with the map of the place showing Winterfelll, then going south to King's Landing etc and the other main places.
They totally turned that into like a big RPG/Strategy game map for me, which got me really into it, as I too am a huge geek in that regard.

Re: Alright, so I'm a bit of a geek
Second episode was really great. Starting to get to know the characters now.
Another great episode. My two fave characters from the first episode were John Snow, the Bastard and the dwarf, so great to see them going off together. They are easily the two most likeable characters I think. The dwarf looks uncannily like a pint sized Dexter Morgan to me which is a bit weird though.
I was thrilled to see that lucsious Dany deciding to take fucking lessons from a whore, that will hopefully pay off in future episodes.
The wolves are really odd though. Are they on some kind of growth hormones? Every scene they have got about 6 months older and now they full grown beasts. How much time is supposed to have past since they got them? :-\
In all a great show though, intriguing, sexy, cruel. That little prince is a right cunt, hope he dies brutally, along witht that slag queen.
Her brother just looks exactly like a dragon slaying knight from a fairy tale, or Dirk the Daring from Dragons Lair. Great casting.
Did I mention that Dany is hot? I think I did.
