"Mediocre" heavies who could SMOKE David Haye
Sad state of affairs these days when a Michael Spinks, an Ike Ibeabuchi, a Ken Norton, an Oliver McCall, a Gerry Cooney, a Buster Douglas would literally SMOKE David Haye. Guys like Jerry Quarry, Earnie Shavers, Jimmy Ellis, Mike Weaver, Tim Witherspoon would spread him across the ring like peanutbutter on hot toast.

Re: "Mediocre" heavies who could SMOKE David Haye
Tyrell Biggs, Pinklon Thomas, and probably Trevor Berbick could smoke Haye. I would have to add an late 30s to early 40s Larry Holmes would have a good chance of beating him too.

...surely you're talking about the purse split because there's no way in hell it's a "50-50" fight, the odds I give are more along the lines of 80-20 in favor of Wlad and I'm not being biased, if I was being biased it would be more like 99.5-.5 in favor of Wlad

.....doesn't look too mediocre to me, but even if he was he'd still whip the crap out of the WBA title holder

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
In context, that was very funny!! ;D
But this is a good list of fighters here that absolutely could beat Haye. But then again, most of em could absolutely beat someone like say... Ken Norton. So there you go :p

Think u guys r selling Haye short
...
The guy has proven he can bang n hes willing to fight anyone.
I happn to like both Klits n Haye howvr I think Vitali owns him n hes got a shot at beating Wlad.

that mirrors my views , Haye could KO Wlad early , however Vitali takes Hayes power and stops him inside 3

i bet kimbo could toss on the gloves and drop some knowledge on haye.

Re: "Mediocre" heavies who could SMOKE David Haye
In any other era both Wlad and Haye are mediocre heavies. Actually you can add Vitali to that list but i think it's laughable to create a thread like this hating on the current fighters as they are just doing what they can with what they have in front of them. Haye unified Cruiser and won a belt at heavy, Wlad near unified heavy and Vit has a long reign and is dominant at forty these three are the elite heavy fighters of our ERA.
But let's not fool ourselves, I'm a Haye fan, your a Klit fan so rabid that you refuse to refer to David Haye using his name but the reality is a win over Haye is the crowning moment in either brothers career because despite having 25 fights is it? he is the biggest and most accomplished fighter they have fought bar Lewis. And Vit lost the Lewis fight by TKO.
We have three mediocre heavyweight champions in fact I'd pick a prime Frank Bruno or Oliver Mcall to be the dominant champion if they were active fighters today.

Re: "Mediocre" heavies who could SMOKE David Haye
Bruce Seldon......wait :-X Stamina problems, fast hands, shakey chin, lack of top tier hvy competition...;D

Re: "Mediocre" heavies who could SMOKE David Haye
I don't even like Haye that much and I think he beats most of these guys, people are way under estimating his power and boxing ability. Besides Ali, Tyson, and Lewis and I have hard time seeing somebody as dynamically gifted in the modern heavyweight division. Sure Haye has his draw backs which make him not an ATG or anything, but don't underestimate him against run of the mill guys from the past, he would crush a lot of them.

Wlad is a mediocre heavyweight? Besides Lennox and his brother who would beat him more often than not?
I would love to see Foreman get past that jab, or Frazier trying to figure out how to get on the inside. Tyson would be able to knock Wlad out a few of the times, but more often than not he would be contained and eventually ko'ed.
Wlad has really good speed for his size, strength that only handful of heavyweights ever possessed, and the most dominant jab maybe the sport has ever seen. Larry Holmes had an amazing jab, but it didn't make opponents completely gun shy. THe difference is that Holmes has a snake like snappy jab that stunned opponents, and Wlad has a ramming jab that pummels opponents. HIs is like a right hand, and his makes 240 pound guys quit trying.
Any of the top guys would have had a one punch type chance against Wlad, but he has made it so hard to hit him cleanly. He uses that jab, and he uses a decent cross on the outside then he falls on you when you get inside on him. You can't just counter over the jab because Wlad is quick and he comes forward behind it seamlessly with the punch, and he has a great feeling for range to go along with his height, so he doesn't throw the jab short, and if you are fast then he just waits a bit until you set your feet before he throws it. As he has gotten more confident it's become harder and harder for opponents to do anything against him.
You can complain about the modern heavyweight division all you want, but it's really not that bad, and actually is far better than the one in the 80's. Where Larry Holmes and Tyson faced the same thing that they were vastly superior to the field around them.

Re: "Mediocre" heavies who could SMOKE David Haye
I think the WBA title holder could take out Norton. Ken Norton never handled power all that well. I think he could take out Golota fairly easy too and both of those guys were good fighters, good boxers.
Shannon Briggs in his prime would have been difficult for him 6'4 225-230, fast hands, big power, decent durability. Tommy Morrison would have been a little dangerous for him. Ron Lyle, Donovan Ruddock, MAYBE Tex Cobb (only due to him durability...so the WBA title holder would have to fight like he did vs Carl Thompson to lose that fight), MAYBE Gerry Cooney. Tony Tucker would give him some trouble, Ray Mercer, Oliver McCall, Michael Dokes maybe, Chris Byrd, David Tua. Hell there are guys who are average that would give anyone trouble...I don't know if any of those fights are necessarily "easy" one way or another. And these heavyweights were only considered "mediocre" in their eras so that has to be taken into consideration.
