The way it happened and the opponent who did it was incredibly shocking. I don't know how you could argue otherwise.

i admit i haven't seen it, but if it was by a straight right hand then no, i'm not really shocked, he has always been tagged by the punch and was rocked last time out

He was dropped three times in the first round by an unknown journey man with 8 knockouts in about 30 fights. Two KD's were from left hands, one of them almost looked like a jab, and he was finished with the straight right.
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
He got stopped by a guy with about 30 percent kayo ratio:-\
Saul Alvarez would shred him to pieces.
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
Not that I care as I watched it live but putting Jamie Kirkland SPOILERS! as the title still pretty much screams to everyone 'this was a sensational upset, man he got ktfo!!'.
I think anybody seeing that headline would know he lost pretty sensationally, and thus it is still a big spoiler.

Exactly. Because of the circumstances makes it shocking. Who would have thought a feather fisted journeyman would kd a highly touted prospect 3 times and then the fight was stopped? No one.

You have to remember though that they were only flash knockdowns and Kirkland wasn't hurt at any time.
another bad call by joe Cortez for sure.

Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
I always knew that bull rushing style he has would comeback to bite him. Just thought it'd be against Angulo. Hell, come to think of it, Allen Conyers almost stopped him in their fight years ago.

Yes. Not that it matters really. But upon seeing this I giggled and hit enter like 4 times.

I really think his conditioning isn't there. Ann Wolf worked him out sadistically and unmercifully. That adds stability to your chin. He took all of Julios flush shots and kept coming. This was pretty bazaar to me we went out this way

I wonder if something happened to him in prison. Maybe he got beaten up and concussed or something.

I was thinking the same thing.
Something happened to Kirkland's chin. Because God knows he has been hit in that spot before and not gone down. But tonight, his chin was glass, and lets be honest he got rocked pretty bad in his last fight against that Colombian as well.
SHOCKING UPSET.
Man, that Japanese upstanding citizen was happy as Bilbo at a Boy George concert.;D

He got caught cold. He came out looking stiff- note the way he squared up when he threw that straight left early on- and he walked into a punch that hit him right on the chin before he got warmed up. After that...well, I've never seen him before and I guess he knocks out a lot of guys, but he doesn't have much ring sense.

Apparently this is an offensive and derogatory term and even longstanding members might be banned for using it is what I was told earlier...
Mocking me is fine though. Personal insults at fellow members are all good but saying a word that might offend were we to have any Japanese read it is a big no no.
I know one poster even got offended by the slanderous labelling of Tyson Fury's dad as a Pikey....

Like I said, if you want to discuss the origins of the term in one of the off-topic boards than I would be happy to do so.

You can cut the tension in here with a knife. A KNIFE I SAY ! ;D

Im thinkin itz da sudden drop of weight that hurt hiz chin. Lik Roy Jones when he came back down from beatin Ruiz? Hiz chin waz no good anymore.
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
It could be the weight drop. It could be that Kirkland was caught cold as someone else mentioned, and he was running into the punches of the tall Japanese guy.
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
I thought the extremely noble gentleman of the Japanese mainland fought very well. But Kirkland appears to have developed an Amir Khan like chin.

Not a bad shout at all, guess that kind of thing can happen. I heard rumours round my way, which is where Hatton is from, that he was sparked cold by a guy in a local pub, fighting over a gambling machine so who knows. Maybe an event like that could blow your chin out. Didn't Kirkland already have a dodgy chin, not seen much of him.

I heard about that in the boxing news, the guy was supposedly a body builder. So he's probably twice the size of Ricky Hatton, so a man of that size catching Ricky Hatton off guard could probably KO him, whether Ricky Hatton was shot or not.

his chin was never out of this world either though, Julio managed to hurt him plenty throughout their fight, i admit i didn't expect him to lose to the guy he did and by KO at that, but i was never sold on Kirkland, i've said it numerous times WAY before the fight, given the way he was stopped if he decides to stay at 154 or 160 he'd get beat by all of the following IMO, Angulo, Cotto, Dzinziruk, Wolak, Williams (if he's not finished), Cintron, hell even Alvarez, obviously Martinez would wreck him, anyone with decent straight punches and who isn't scared of his bullying style
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
this is a monster upset. he was being groomed for a Martinez fight. now, that idea seems sadistically funny.
-
I had heard he couldn't take a punch...I also thought his fighting style, though entertaining would eventually land him in trouble and whaddaya know here we are discussing how he was demolished by a fighter whom he should have handled easily.
A bad time to be a top rated prospect I guess, with Lemiuex and now this.

Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
Boxing - Maidana, Morales Quick Quotes
Kirkland said Ishida wasnt anything and had no power. What an arrogant person I guess he deserved to get KTFO, Thug!
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
i knew when i was posting SPOILERS , it was obvious Kirkland lost but it was such a short fight, i hope i didnt ruin it for anybody. If so , I apologize .
Kirkland will be back though. I still think he will be a champ
-
....Kirkland fighting Martinez looks even more laughable now . If this guy beat him in the first Martinez would ko him during ringwalk. To kirkands credit though Martinez would do that to most the guys in that division. Kirkland will be fine . Should probably hit Anne Wolfe back up

Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
Shocking upset no matter how you put it...
Even if Ishida held a part of a title. :D
Kirklands wild and we've all seen that. When you live by the gun you die by the gun.
Let's not forget how Conyers had him down early in their fight.
Not being a dick or anything but I guess it's back to jail for Kirkland?
With the kind of shitty attitude he showed immidiately after the fight and the comments he's made... :-\
-
Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
ok , i see mostly everyone is saying Kirkland is done as a top contedner for the 1# spot. Remember him before his jail time - totally different fighter. He has the skills , he just needs to develop and settle down on training

i've been saying that he's overrated since before his time in jail, he's a decent fighter but no world beater

Re: Kirkland fight SPOILERS!!
I love these kinds of threads after a big upset because the excuses and reasonings are alwys great for a laugh.
Why is it so hard for people to believe that these guys are human? And that even though this Japanese gentleman only had 8 KOs, he's still a pro fighter who spends his time training his body to throw a punch?
For me, Kirkland had no respectfor this guy, he walked into a great punch that he never saw coming, and he never recovered from it. No need to come up with rediculous theories like being in jail ruined his chin... lol.

Did you watch the fight though? Saying the opponent was a trained fighter is kind of silly given where you are posting, was it the first one Kirkland had stepped in the ring with? His opponent not only had a poor Ko ratio, he didn't have any visible snap at all save from the finishing punch, Kirkland without a doubt showed terrible punch resistance being knocked down the first couple of times. Maybe something did happen to him in jail, even if it where just that he was inactive for as long as he was. Kirkland is a guy who has to be in excellent shape if he wants any chance of hanging with a good fighter, just given his style. I had only seen him prior to being in jail before this, and even then there was no doubt he was wide open, but he beat some decent opponents on account of tenactity and output. Last night right from the bell he looked awful, still held his hands low and didnt' move his head walking forward, only he didn't even throw punches to offset this. I just watched it after reading the result so knew it was coming but I can't imagine it would have shocked me whatsoever if I'd seen it live, it was like WTF did Kirkland expect fighting like that. It was absolutely a case of Kirkland being that shit imo, whether it was just last night or has always been the case I'm not sure.
