How do you know when meat has gone bad?
Serious question.
I am cooking up a real nice joint of boneless lamb, we bought it a little while ago and froze it. I took it out of the freezer (can't remember when) and left it in the fridge. It's now time too cook.
The meat had a slight smell to it, not too bad, but there was an odour and it was a little slimey to the touch. But it's such a good bit of meat it seems worth a go.
I'm thinking about beef that is hung for days, that essentially goes off, but we still eat it and cook it.
This meat is raw and will be blasted in the oven at a high heat. Surely that will kill the germs?!
Anyway, it's in now. But if I am about to kill myself, then please let me know! ;D

With meat, if it's off you can usually tell it's off. If it smells like meat, it's o.k, if it smells unpleasant I'd leave it alone. I apply the same rule to 'muffing a girl out' ;) That's not actually true coz I've muffed out some absolute horrors :-X

The thing is, you don't know until your head is down there. Then once it is, its pretty difficult to get out of it without causing offence. Hence the occasional horrors. Only once have I retreated. I had to. I made out I was suddenly really hungry though. So no feelings hurt.

Much like my meat, that is why you must always perform a quick sniff test with your finger first!
you want that to appear hotter? avoid the sniff test, by seeing if she'll accept said finger(s) in her mouth. If she daren't go there maybe you shouldn't either.
Re: How do you know when meat has gone bad?
I don't mind if it stinks i sometimes prefer it :lickish:
As for meat if you think its off don't cook it because if its off or not you won't be able to eat it because your mind will tell you its off with every bite ;)

At first I was worried about the direction this was taking, but it seems to have recovered nicely.

The high heat may kill the germs but would not affect the toxins that are produced by the germs. So intense cooking will not make a bad meat safe to eat.
Re: How do you know when meat has gone bad?
Is the Dog dead yet ?
If not, it must of been fine ;)
Re: How do you know when meat has gone bad?
I was wondering...I've had a leg of lamb in the freezer since Christmas, and I'm pretty sure its ok, but I hadn't seen your name pop up...
Re: How do you know when meat has gone bad?
The answer is when it tastes bad and you start being sick a couple of hours later.
