Wow!! Congrats Vic Ortiz!!! A lot of people questions your heart, will and determination including I. You made me a fan, I used to not like you because of the hype GBP did. You are an honest, candid and genuine human being God Bless you kid.

It was a great effort. I didn't really see why he was such an underdog as the Maidana fight aside he's always been more impressive than Berto imo who has never beaten anybody of real note.
Ortiz has always fought like a star whereas Berto has always looked like a work in progress.
I think Berto will struggle to reassert himself, I guess his next fight back will be against Mosley in the autumn and then we will see.
HBO will doubtless be keen to rematch Ortiz with Maidana, and Marquez is going to get a big fight at some point this year.
Don't see him fighting Manny or Floyd although they would be great mathcups.
The smiling and all the promotion with easy matchups made me suspicious. He seemed uncannily like an American version of Amir Khan and then the premature pullout against Maidana. Recently he has sounded far more gritty and like he has a chip on his shoulder and in this fight really fought like it.
He has won me over with this fight and I genuinely cannot wait to see him fight again. He is exciting and powerful, but also somewhat vulnerable. He also seems like a nice person too, which is always a plus. If he keeps this attitude and determination to prove doubters wrong, then he won't go far wrong. Believe it or not some doubters do actually want to be won over. Boxing fans like boxers who listen and care about their reputation and legacy and Ortiz seems to want to respond accordingly.
I was worrying about running out of any new fighters to like, but Ortiz will fit the bill quite nicely which will likely annoy Bilbo who probably wants to like him too.
I would really like to see Ortiz against Khan actually. I doubted the chin of Ortiz in the past and though not perfect, he has plenty of power and speeed to get Khan out of there.
I think Ortiz will put Maidana down some more in a rematch and outwork him for a decision. Will probably taste the canvas himself too though. He would fight him far differently IMO, more boxing with the occasional slugging.
i've been backing the guy up even after the Maidana fight, i said he deserved a break and that he would bounce back, i don't deny i had my doubts with the weak opposition and all but tonight he proved everything i said about this kid, and IMO he stops Berto in a rematch, i'd love to see him get a crack at the Bradley/Khan winner, cause IMO he could take both guys
Mayweather vs Ortiz? I mean it makes sense. GBP was trying to cash Ortiz out and he comes along and exposes Berto....Mayweather needs a fight and Manny is busy. Dont' think he'll rematch Maidana...both have belts and are vulnerable and can be dealt off to other bigger fights-names
I think it could very well happen.....oh and Ortiz has a strap and is new to division. Yeh it'll happen ;D
I was DEAD WRONG about Ortiz. I thought he'd get beaten up bad by Berto. He proved a lot of people wrong, and proved he has more heart and desire than all the media and boxing fans who criticized him.
Great GREAT fight !
Fight of the year no doubt. It blew Morales vs. Maidana outta the water !
The 8th round I believe it was when they traded brutal knockdowns, that was shocking !
Gutted I missed it, can't believe that Ortiz is now world champ. Don't know why, but it kind of feels like he snuck in the backdoor to grab it.
I'm sure Berto will be wanting a rematch won't he?
yes sounded like an awesome fight, best of the year so far?
where can i watch the fight?
where is the hidden section?
id pm you but you dont have any space
Prior to this I actually thought that the recent Katsidis fight was fight of the year. Just a little bit more than Maidana.
Nice one Pavlik.
This looks like Manny Pac v Mayweather. :)
Beffore we go ahead and annoint Ortiz "The Next ...", it would be worth acknowledging a few things, the first and foremost being that he can't fight much. The biggest reason he won last night is because the guy he was fighting had no plan, and even at that he managed to exploit two of Ortiz's biggest flaws and knock him down twice. And those same two openings were there all night, as Ortiz doesn't seem inclined to learn.
He gets all his weight to his right side and pushes that left hand out there- honestly, a good fighter would be torn between countering his left with hooks all night, or stepping to the right, or simply pulling back, and blasting him with right hands. His defense is non existant. Putting him in with Mayweather would be a mis-match of epic proportions, and, shot or not, I think Mosley would smash him worse than he did Margarito.
Two checks cashed in on two flawed investments was lastnight I believe. Ortiz payed off and I really think he'll get Mayweather. Where he'll get badley exploited and go down swinging. Mayweather nabs his trinket and he and Manny continue to have a staring contest, should Manny take care of Mosley. I dont see Ortiz or Berto improving greatly on gameplans just Ortiz scrapped back from the brink and was the better fighter. He earned it.
Flawed or not, Victor brought the "Berto hype train" to a screeching halt last night. Had it not been for Ortega's incessant meddling, Berto would not have seen the final bell.
Ortiz suprised the hell out of me last night!! I really thought he was finished in the 6th when he took that shot, then he came back and got a knock down of his own. He showed me the heart i thought he was lacking. He's lacking some skills, defense and the jab to name a few, but his heart and determination made up for it. Who would have thought Ortiz heart would be the difference in the fight in a good way.
Like already said, what an amazing showing on Ortiz's part. I wrote him off, as so many did, including Golden Boy.
Ortiz shocked the world, he imposed his will and outright refused to lose. I'm sure Berto had a plan, but hell, you can have a plan to stop a train, but when that train doesn't give a rats sh*t about what you're trying to do, your plan goes out the window.
Ortiz was inspring last night, the guy came out possesed and just absolutely refusing to lose.
Hats off to him, I'm sure Berto comes back, doubt he'll get a rematch and If I was in Ortiz camp, I wouldnt give him the rematch untill he finishes getting the paydays.
FOTY candidate hands down. From the back story, to almost every round. What a fight.
Ortiz came to fight, and he did. He had a handful of chances to unravel and refused to take them. It reminded me of the night Rafael Ruelas beat Freddie Pendleton- it was his night and he refused to be denied.
i thot Oritz was goin to win in the first place i didnt really think Berto had fought any really good fighters. At least now we can say that Berto has been tested
Good win for Ortiz i would like to see him fight Bradley i still go with Bradley to win it.
I was sure that he had no chances (or close to) against Berto. Well, I was dead wrong, congrats fella, a nice display of technique, heart and speed.
