Why is there no thread!!!! , this fight is crazy unbelievable!!!!!
Juanma is fighting a dumb fight and trying to slug it out with Salido, allowing him to connect and hurt him, would be shocked if Lopez recovers
Can anyone give me a rundown on what's been going on? I just turned the fight on in round 6 and I was shocked!
You would of thought Lopez would of worked out the right hand of Salido by now, such bad defense.
he's fighting for the crowd, he needs to focus and box, not try and slug it out with Salido
ahhhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought that stoppage was premature. JuanMa was definitely in trouble but he was still punching back. Taking a knee would've probably been smart.
Ref stops the fight, Salido wins by TKO/KO, horrible stoppage..
Why are today's referees insisting on fucking with the fight.
Why the fuck was that fight stopped ???
Can't say that I agreed with that stoppage either. Boxing is becoming a no contact sport like football.
I knew Salido would do it. Salido-Marquez next
Premature stoppage since Lopez was still punching back. You also give the champ the benefit of the doubt and let him come back.
JuanMa was winning the first 3 or 4 rounds, then got knocked down in the 5th round, Salido kept the pressure on in the 6th and 7th continuing to hurt JuanMa, and was able to get the KO in the 8th round. The stoppage was premature, but not the worst i've seen and chances are JuanMa was toast, and would have gotten knocked unconscious if the ref hadn't stopped it.
i agree with VD, Lopez was still wobbling around when his guys were pulling him to the corner, he was punching on instinct but was pretty much out of it, wouldn't mind a rematch but Lopez better sharpen up the boxing skills that made him what he was, cause lately he's just been trying to slug it out and rely on his power leaving him open to bombs
Lopez biggest problem is he's always been a sucker for the right hand. He was very lucky to have faced an injured 65% Marquez
his defense used to be a hell of a lot sharper, he's just gotten lazy and kinda egocentric with his power, by the 5th round Salido wasn't landing only the right hand but the left hook as well, all of that was due to Lopez' defensive laziness and his own ego thinking he could come back just cause of his power
Lopez needs to work seriously his defense. I think he could continue, but he was taking shots too easily. This has been my main critic to him, his defense. But, showed a great heart. My respect to you champ (Juanma) and congratulations to Salido.
one thing i didn't get at all either was, Juanma was having success early on with the 1,2 , why the hell didn't he then shoot the right to the body, and work the body when he would back Salido up, his guard was spot on tonight, so Juanma should have tried to bring it down with body work
Anybody still think Lopez would have a shot against Gamboa after what went on tonight? I sure as hell don't.
I think it was stopped early, but was probably going to happen eventually. Juanma showed some good toughness, just couldnt get away from those hooks. That first knockdown was a brutal left hook then a brutal right hook, was surprised he got up from that one.
Taking the prior two rounds into account and the fact that his head was bouncing around like a pinball, I'm not gonna think too harshly on the ref for the stoppage. Sure he was fighting back, but there was nothing on his shots and Salido was landing at will. JuanMa has been into heavy trouble more than a few fights now, that has to be considered as well.
juanma was throwing but not connecting. he got hit too much and is pretty much throwing punches in the air just to survive.
Up until he got knocked down in the 5th round, Lopez seemed to think this fight was going to be a walk in the park. Lot's of credit to Salido for taking JuanMa's title, and becoming the new WBO featherweight champion.
I didnt think it was a bad stoppage. Lopez was getting hit flush and HARD, over and over again. All he was giving back was pitter padder. That's was the kind of fight where a fighters dies.
It was more the timing of the ref's stoppage, then the actual stoppage, Lopez was getting ripped, but he was still fighting. But I agree, at the time the stoppage looked a bit premature, but in retro, I believe the ref did the right thing. He saved Lopez from further punishment, and Salido was in the process of putting his lights out, live to fight another day.
I have no problem with stoppage Lopez was fucked and i think hes been tad overrated really.
Not saying he was not good Tito but he was tad overrated people were saying next Gomez. Not to mention fighter he lost kinda says to me hes not what people thought he was.
No one has said it yet, but a big 'fuck you' to Bob Arum for dragging out the Gamboa-Lopez fight to the point where now it's not a makeable fight. Styles make matchups, and though I think Gamboa would have won, it would have been a hellava fight and a great night for boxing. But Arum's greedy fat ass kept dragging it out even though both fighters had shown questionable chins/defense (though Gamboa has improved tremendoulsy in that regard, Lopez obvioulsy haasn't) and now the fight won't happen anytime soon, or if it does it will not be nearly as big.
Well i guess he figured he would not lost to a guy of Salido level. Not to mention Gamboa was able to get by him so he figured Lopez could. I don't think the fight be that great Lopez d needs some work.
Top Rank took a risk by continuing to build that fight for so long. The idea was that both fighters would make more money if they continued to build their reputations, but the risk was that one of them may lose prior to the fight taking place, and now that has happened. I'm not sure there is a point to that fight ever being scheduled. Clearly, as I've thought all along, Gamboa was smoke Lopez.
Lopez has fought for the crowd on more than one occasion and not just on the Island. I was at the Mtagwa fight and he did the same thing there. Clearly, this is a problem he has had that his team hasn't found time to address and now it cost him dearly.
