Shane Mosley of 2000 Vs Manny or Floyd?

Over the last 24 or so hours I have read a lot of criticism of Manny Pacquiao for not stopping Mosley, I read people using the performance of Manny and fact he did not stop Mosley as so called PROOF Floyd would beat him...I read that because Manny dropped Shane it is proof that Manny could do so to Floyd and a bunch of other nonsense

Mosty of all I read abpout Shane being shot!!! I can agree about Shane being WAAAAYYYY past his best or even almost best...But he is still better then most....Point of it all is though

Mosley went thew distance with Floyd 12 Months ago he had PBF of Queer Street for a bit early on...Can not deny PBF's legs were shaking like a virgin seeing his first bush when Mosley caught him..Despite the rest of the fight

Last night Shane went 12 with the #1 ranked P4P fighter currently despite his poor showing after the 3rd....

So a shot fighter went the distance with the 2 best P4P fighters going right now....what does that say about them? What does it say about Shane? I mean younger fighters who tried to just survive against Both Floyd and manny or that actually went in to try and beat Manny and Floyd either were stopoped or lost big....

So how would a younger Shane who could pull the trigger at will have done against the versions of Manny and Floyd he lost to?.....I almost want to say Shane beats the shit out of both men?...Any opps?

I think with Manny it becomes very competitive fight like with Oscar in 2000. Don't know who would win, but Shane circa 2000 would have went to war with Manny.

With Floyd I say Shane loses a close split decision maybe even controversial one at that.

The best chance Shane had to beat Manny (or Floyd for that matter) would be during his lightweight reign. As soon as he moved up to welterweight he stopped throwing those beautiful 4-5 punch combinations and destroying guys to the body. 1997-1999 Mosley would have given both Floyd & Manny hell at 135lb (and probably 140lb as well even thou he never fought there)

Here's what I see, people say that Shane went the distance with both Pacquiao and Floyd as some kind of credit. Here is the thing, when Shane fought Floyd, he could still pull the trigger and could still fire off and wasn't gunshy, Mayweather adapted his gameplan and shut down the offense Mosley was trying to do and closed all the avenues where Shane could be effective, but Mosley still kept trying but as he said after the fight, Mayweather didn't make the same mistake again. So Shane kept trying against Floyd, and showed he could still fire off shots when he saw them.

Against Pacquiao, Shane pretty much did nothing, he fired off his jab which would snap pac's head back but never followed it with anything, he started going to the body early but then quit at it. Anything Mosley did that worked he never tried to do again, seemed gunshy. Even during stretches that Pacquiao would be waiting on him, Shane didn't throw, he even caught Pacquiao off balance with a counter left hook but refused to follow it with anything. Shane was gunshy and the only time he really threw his right hand was to touch gloves with pacquiao at the end of rounds.

The Shane that fought Floyd and the Shane that fought Pacquiao are two completely different fighters. When Floyd waited on Shane, Shane threw and tried to make something happen, when Pacquiao did it, Shane, did nothing.

It does appear that Shane is a different fighter in the two fights. But could it be that it is because Shane is afraid to be hit by Manny more so than by Floyd?

Now to answer the thread question, I would just say that the fights will be competitive.

You know though not to sound like a PacTard it seems that every fighter Manny has been in the ring with above 135 with the exception of ZHatton who couldn't catch Pacquiao with a bullett has had the same issue and they a;ll say the same thing...You sit and wait for your chance to get off but it never seems to happen...He seems like he is there for you to go after but the second you open up he is catching you with combinations you don't see coming.....Every one of these giuys can't be wrong can they? Everyone of these guys can not have suddenly lost whatever it is they once had come round 2 of their fights with Manny unless God himself is willing it to happen and i find that hard to believe....Even some guys at lower weights said the same thing...I mean shit outside of JMM and the first Morales fight when has Manny even been tested or really made to work his ass off?

Pac would beat SSM-2000 if it's toe-to-toe all out war. However, boxingwise... SSM would beat Manny with his quickness and elusiveness.

As for Shane vs Floyd. There's a reason why Floyd avoided Shane for so long.

At welterweight it would be more competitive but IMO the same results, 12 round UDs for both Pac and Floyd.

At lightweight it would be a war with Pac and the first to land gets the KO.
At lightweight it would be a KO win over Floyd or a SD win for Floyd.

The 2000 Shane Mosley was a completely different fighter to what we saw against Pacman, let's not forget that Mosley since 2002 has had 17 fights and has a 8-7-1 record with 1 NC.
Not all that flatterring is it? We saw the best of Shane Mosley in the first DLH fight, he hasn't been the same since the 2nd DLH fight. I hope he retires now as it was kinda sad watching him just trying to survive against the Pacman. Shane Mosley at Lightweight at his peak gives both Manny and Floyd one helluva time in the ring.

shane stops both of them late. Possibly PBF early.

I think Mosley had the right kind of gameplan to fight Manny, but because of age and in particular because of what happened against Floyd he was unwilling or perhaps just unable to let the punches go. He knew he couldn't risk gassing against Manny. He neutralised Manny's output very well, but just wasn't throwing with conviction. There were long stretches of rounds where he was stepping away, but just throwing nothing. He should have been moving, but keeping Manny off with a consistent jab. There were obvious moments where Manny was jumping in and Mosley was just not willing to let the right go or follow it up with combinations. The younger Mosley was much faster and would have been much less hesitant. The size difference would have played a part and Mosley wasn't much slower than Manny himself.

Would have been a good fight and I could see body shots slowing Manny down followed by a stoppage late on.

All dick and no balls on the 7th day of May, 2011... it must've also been the same given any day in 2000....

So can easily be concluded.. lest one particular, have had surgically lost balls in between... had they gotten this fight on then, result would still have been the same --- a disgusting mockery of the sport!

That's not entirely true. He started fighting as a teenager. When Floyd was his age as an amateur When Floyd was 17 years old he was fighting at 114. Floyd was 5'8 114lbs, at 16 Manny was 4'11 98lb. The height evens it out. So I think What Nazim Richardson pointed out after he first met manny, was that he is very compact, thick, and shouldn't have been fighting that low anyway, this was right before the pacman-hatton fight.

Shane wasn't gun shy with Floyd coz he knows the Pretty Boy is contented with winning by points unlike Pac who will knock him out given a chance. Shane hesitated with Pac coz he knows he will go down just as easy as he did in the 3rd round when Pac caught him.

Given Pac's superior strength and knocking power over Floyd, it was natural for Shane to be more defensive against Pac.

Floyd could hardly hurt Shane. Fact.
Shane went down in the third round against Pac. Fact.

Against Floyd, he has nothing to fear of being KOed.

Against Pac, had he fought bravely, Shane would have gone down before the 7th round.

I hope you see that point of view.

Back to the original question, the Mosley of 2000 ( who schooled De La hoya during that time) would have a better chance compared to Floyd against Pac.:cool:

At lightweight and 11 years younger, PAC would be swallowing punches and Floyd would have fewer moves to confuse Shane. In other words,"You can run but you can't hide Floyd."
