re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
I've backed Braehmer to KO Cleverly at around 4/1. Frank Warren rarely gets it wrong when he steps his fighters up. However, if Cleverly gets drawn into a battle, like he normally does, Braehmer is far superior to anyone he's ever faced. He punches hard and is tough as nails. Cleverly isn't a big hitter. But does have the workrate. Braehmer will need a miracle to win on PTS. So the KO is the bet. IF I was gonna back Cleverly it would definitely be on PTS.
I think DeGale will most likely stop Groves. Although it's not the mismatch most seem to think. Groves looks a fairly heavy puncher and showed some serious heart in that Anderson fight. Although the form of that Anderson fight should mean DeGale is too good for him. Haven't decided a bet for this yet.
Gavin-Muttley is a shit fight IMO. Gavin would have stopped him a few fights back let alone now. There are no prices for this fight yet but I guarantee the odds for Gavin will make him almost unbackable.

Cleverly-Braehmer OFF!!!
Fucks sake....

re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
FFS does that mean it will be freeview ?? Or just make it 7.95 !
never known why they have to charge 14.95 or whatever it is . Why not make it cheaper for ones that aren't quite up there with the A class matchups.
they could have sold Khan's for less
Were the figures ever revealed for Khan's prometime fight by way ?

I just heard that on the radio too but boxing scene hasnt confirmed it yet.
In a way it might be a good thing cuz sky can demote it to normal sky sports instead of box office like they tried to do with Kahn once his undercard fell through. This was the only world title on the bill though so you cant expect Warren to justify a PPv between two domestic fighters . . . . .lets see.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Lets see what Sky do now after the Khan debacle. The Cleverly replacement is gonna be poor at this short notice.
Is Grove-Degale a PPV event on it's jack jones? Don't think so

70 k apparently it did well.
Yeah I dont understand why they just cant lower the price instead of making it all or nothing. Primetime did ppvs for a fiver, tenner and fifteen quid. Why cant sky do something similar.
It will take the mick if sky keep this ppv after what they did to Khan.
-
Both arnt all that anyway. Over hype and sky cam kiss my arse.
Come back itv ur always forgiven
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
It's been confirmed by Warren/Sky Sports.
Khan's primetime figure was revealed as a success - 70,000.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Sorry Game, keep repeating what you've said
-
Don't worry people the cobra is back with sky to show every British fighter ever how it's done.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
I agree there's no way they can justify it as a PPV leading off with Groves Degale as the headliner.
There are a few decent fights on the card for sure, but just like the Khan debacle I reckon Sky will try and move it down to a Sky Sports 1 event, on the plus side though I'm chuffed I didn't pick it as the star fight in the last week of the prediction comp!
Braehmer's starting to remind me of someone who cries wolf about illness too often, he pulled out of his last bout too.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Braehmer has pulled out numerous fights. He's worse than Tyson and Calzaghe. Should of seen it coming.
Clevery is the NEW WBO champ. Braehmer stripped. So Sky will still have a "world" title fight should a replacement be found
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Apparently Warren still wants to press ahead with the PPV but it is ultimately Sky's call.
The thing is, they don't mind pissing off Goldenboy but can't see them pulling a Frank Warren card from ppv billing. They won't want to upset him. ;)

It's has to be confirmed by the WBO if his fight will be a for a world title. I'm sure Frank will be able to persuade them though.

Exactly. This is the Alex Arthur/Enzo Macc route to a WBO title all over again.
If Cleverly is matched they will still have a "world" title fight so will keep it PPV. Like you said, dealing with Warren is different to Golden BOy.

no i think it will be close
degale really struggled with that french dude in his last fight mind, looked pretty bad
and by the sounds of it from his post fight interview he was putting the effort in
in any case i think anderson is a good fighter and i dont think that was such a bad performance

He is a stone overweight.
He says he could lose that if a silly offer came in but can't see it happen. I expect an unheard of European to be drafted in, instead.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
They said they'er looking at someone ranked by the WBO. These are the WBO rankings (excluding Braehmer and Cleverly)
1 Dmitry Sukhotsky (Int-Cont) RUS
2 Braimah Kamoho (WBO Africa) GHA
3 Soulan Pownceby (Asia-Pacific) USA
4 Eduard Gutknecht GER
5 Marcus Vinicius de Oliveira (Latino) BRA
6 Tomas Kovacs (WBO Europe) SOL
7 Zsolt Erdei HUN
8 Kariz Kariuki (Oriental) KEN
9 Chad Dawson NZ
10 Karo Murat GER
11 Aleksy Kuziemski POL
12 Isaac Chilemba MAL
13 Denis Simcic SLO
14 Tony Bellew GB
15 Viacheslav Uzelkov UKR
If this ends up as a world title fight then it'll still be Box Office.

Dobson or Dodson? ;)
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
McIntosh is not allowed to fight even if he wanted to. He got duffed up just a couple of weeks ago. That would be shit anyway.
Any exposed British guy like Dodson would be utter shit.
Looking at those WBO ratings it looks shit. Even if they are decent it's a bit short notice. This is shit. Fact.

dunno
but to get any interest in the fight the need someone that at least the boxing public know or are aware of
theres no time now to build up another foreigner who noone in britain has ever seen fight

re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
I'm going on saturday night this has took a bit of excitement away as i thought it was going to be a tough fight for Cleverly will be keeping my eyes open to see who they bring in.
I'm sure his last opponent was a late replacement and gave him all the trouble he could handle i'll be happy to see a tough close fight who ever it turns out to be and not an early round easy blowout.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Oh dear.
As much as I want to see Groves and DeGale I don't think I can justify paying £15 for that alone.
No, Cleverly fight that they can announce now will be worthy of a world title fight; and the WBO isn't a worthy organisation anyway.
-
re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Im pretty sure it will still be PPV. The description for the box office show on sky says something like
DeGale vs Groves for the Brit/Commonwealth titles. Nathan Cleverly will also be stepping into the ring.
So its been updated since the Brahmer pullout

I believe he did, part of why I've got little time for him. It's odd because he's an amateur world champ with good punch power, but hasn't transitioned to being as good a pro as that promises imo. I firmly believe that someone around him has bottled it here.
-
Re: Braehmer withdraws from Cleverly fight
He also pulled out of a fight with Lakatos.
Damn...I was looking forward to this

Re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Here's Frank Warren on it. I don't understand why they didn't tell them of the "injury" to begin with rather than say he'd missed the flight and would come today (Wednesday) instead
Warren blasts no-show Braehmer | Sky Sports | Boxing | News
Quote:
Frank Warren has criticised Juergen Braehmer after the WBO champion pulled out of Saturday's light-heavyweight title fight with Nathan Cleverly.
The German withdrew from the clash after an apparent eye injury suffered in training 10 days ago failed to heal sufficiently.
But promoter Warren now hopes the WBO strip Braehmer of his title, which he has defended just once since winning it in 2009.
Warren, who only heard the news via internet reports from Germany this morning and when Braehmer's team cancelled their boxer's hotel booking, is waiting to speak to the Puerto Rico-based WBO later on Tuesday.
He hopes that they have taken action and upgraded Cleverly from 'interim' to full champion status.
"I couldn't give a s*** what happens to him after (he is stripped). He's nuts, the guy."
Frank Warren
Quotes of the week
"What we believe will happen - we're just waiting for official confirmation - is that Nathan will be declared champion and we're looking for an opponent for him to defend against on Saturday," said the promoter.
Talking
"We hope we will have a name before the close of business today. We are talking to a few fighters who have got good records and are ranked. It's just a matter of trying to agree terms with one of them."
Warren revealed he sent a driver to collect Braehmer from the airport on Tuesday but he did not turn up, claiming he had missed his plane and would arrive on Wednesday instead.
However Braehmer, who also pulled out of a January unification fight with Beibut Shumenov, did not arrive on Wednesday morning and Warren then heard via the internet that the fight was off.
"Eventually we were told by Universum (Braehmer's promoters) that he was out due to a cut eye," Warren said.
"We received a medical from him two days ago and he didn't have a cut eye two days ago, yet I think it was the German newspaper Bild who said it's a cut that is one and a half weeks old and has opened up again. Well, it's not in his medical.
"It's disgraceful, what's happened here. It really is the bad side of the sport. Something needs to be done about it and I'll obviously be complaining to the WBO but because of the time difference we have not managed to speak to anybody there."
Warren added: "What's even more disgusting is reading about it on the internet.
"At the moment all I want is the WBO to do what they have said they would do and strip this guy, because it's not the first time he's done this. He has a track record for it. He's a let-down."

Re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Looks like it is going to be Bellew.
Just has 6lbs to lose before Friday's weigh in.
Says he can do it no problem.
-
Re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Bellew is the best option by miles at this stage. Shame it's such short notice though, and i'd be surprised if Warren puts two of his own unbeaten prospects against each other.
But at least with Bellew he can punch and is a bit mental. That makes a good chance of entertainment.

I doubt very much he will put Bellew in With Cleverly. Warren will go with an unknown ranked opponent.
Bellews punch resistance is rubbish.

Is it still Box Office or have they dropped it down to regular Sky Sports?

i cant see it lasting that long
although id rather that than someone obscure with a name i cant pronounce
makes it a big all british bill too now so im pleased

It would be funny if Bellew KO'd Cleverly and became world champ!
-
Re: Cleverly-Braehmer OFF/My bet for sky box office this saturday
Bellew as much as I love him would get fucked up with 10 weeks prep for Clev, the guy is a top lad and has balls of steel but I think he is getting knocked out within 6.
