Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
I think he is because when I first hear d of him/saw him fight it was 2004 I think, and Merchant was hyping him BIG TIME. He won some fights against mediocre heavies, and as they ratcheted up the hype, I dont really remember him doing SQUAT. What a disappointing thing. Hyping a heavyweight who turns out to be piddly-piss.

I remember asking a good few years ago starting a thread on here "who is the future of the HW division and Sam Peters was the name that was been mentioned as the future star.
Unfortunatly he is just another fat out of condition plodder who has underacheved due to lack of personal dedication.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
Yup there was mega hype around him back then, and I'll be the first to admit I bought into it as well. Not so far as I believed he was the second coming of Tyson (like a lot of people did), but I truely believed he could be a major player and make things interesting in the HW division. Which I guess he did, for a year or so.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
he was champ for a while, id say thats quite an achievement
i think he should have got the decision against klit first time
after he took a massive beating off the other klit he went the way of the swanny

I thought it was pretty clear Klitschko won.
Also IMO Peter lost the first Toney fight.

i cant remember the fight that much to be honest man
i remember thinking klit had got away with it? didnt the knockdowns spread over 3 rounds? would have been a lot of points for klit to get back if so

The only rounds Samuel Peter won was the rounds he scored the knockdowns in, and 2 of those knockdowns wern't even legit. They were rabbit punches a bit like one of Jean Pascal's knockdowns vs B-Hop in there 1st fight.
As for the thread no Samuel Peter never really impressed me, he lost to James Toney in there 1st fight, and only knocked out mediocre fighter's.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
I hate Sam Peter for what he did to James Toney in their 2nd fight, It's not fair that a fat fuck like....
Oh wait :-\
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
The Nigerian Nightmare.
Fucking hell. ;D
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
I m not disappointed at all because he's just as I expected. A typical modern day HW of a fat slob.. Fat, out of shape and unmotivated.. I have no respect for fighters like him..
I knew he wasnt going anywhere so Im just glad he's out of the picture..
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
I feel Alexander Povetkin is turning out to be a disapointment . He seems to be trying to avoid the Klitschkos and Haye , and hope all 3 of them retire or get Old before he fights any of them. His competition is dissapointing and hes wasting his prime years.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
I dunno. He was what he was. He lacked desire and discipline. But getting to fight for the heavyweight crown twice? Not a little thing IMO.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
He did well to mix with Toney and Wlad but ultimately was hyped obnoxiously on power. I remember seeing someone refere to his power being Frazier like. I had to throw those pants out. They had to keep in mind in was Jeremy Williams they were peeling off the canvas :-X
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
I dont want to be so negative, but, what is there to like about Sam Peter? He respresents everything that's bad about the current HW division. He's the epitome of a modern day heavyweight who's fat, out of shape and a lazy plodder who looks for that one punch. He comes off as a fighter who doesnt take his craft seriously and there's nothing respectable about that. People started hyping him after he knocked out Jeremy Williams but so what? the best thing he's done was knocking down wlad with illegal rabbit punches and the only time when i was mildy impressed was in the Toney rematch where he actually bounced on his toes and threw jabs. For a second there, i thought he was Ali or something....lolz He was lucky to even get the rematch because Toney definitely beat him the first time..
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
Sam Peter's whole career has lived off 1 big punch against Jeremy Williams imo
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
First time I saw Sam Peter he was being hailed as the next Mike Tyson, then he went out there and fought like shit against Charles Shufford.
He looked very improved and good against James Toney in their second fight.
That got my hopes up, as did his first fight with Wladimir.
Pretty much ever since then he has looked about like he did against Shufford...SHIT.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
He reminds me of an Eddie Murphy character from Coming to America. So i never expected much from him.
That's probably just the right side of racist aswell. I hope.
Re: Is Sam Peter a big disappointment?
Big is the operative word, he showed his best form against James Toney in the second fight and obviously the first fight with Wlad. Since then he has been over weight and unmotivated. His pitiful performance against Vitali losing every round and quitting was embarrassing. His re-match with Wlad was poor too. The fact that he won a title says all we need to know about the current heavyweight scene. In the 1990’s he would have only been a contender never a champion.
There have been many heavyweights who disappoint Tua, Grant and Audley come to mind.

Lou Savarese, Axel Shultz, and Michael Bent would have all been very competitive with Sam Peter. Shultz would have beat him.
