Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Good weekend of boxing for us fans: :happy0931sb4:
June 4
At Atlantic City, N.J. (Showtime): Super Six World Boxing Classic semifinals, Carl Froch vs. Glen Johnson, 12 rounds, for Froch's WBC super middleweight title.
I've got Froch winning a decision, but shit happens, a Johnson upset is not impossible, Glen seems to be reborn hard @ 168.
Some good fights on HBO Saturday as well:
At Los Angeles (HBO): Sebastian Zbik vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 12 rounds, for Zbik's WBC middleweight title; Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia vs. Miguel Beltran, 10 rounds, featherweights; Vanes Martirosyan vs. Saul Roman, 12 rounds, WBC junior middleweight eliminator.
I figure Zbik must not be shit, why else would Chavez Jr. be fighting him for a trinket. :bag:
My take is Junior wins a UD, and his first major title, please Zbik, surprise everyone and be worth a shit.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I've got Froch in a close decision. I've never seen Zbik fight so i can't comment there, but regardless if he's good or not i don't expect JCC jr to look great, he never does.

According to BoxRec:
Sebastian Zbik - Boxer
Zibik is 30-0 with only 10 KO's, so not much power, and all of his fights have been in Germany, this will be his first fight outside of Germany. (in Los Angeles)
I don't expect Chavez Jr. to look great, but having Freddie Roach as his new trainer should help him.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
We got Friday Night Fights too!
I think this is the end of Glenn Johnson. I suspect Froch batters him. As for the other fight? Never seen Zbik so I have no idea.
Excellent HBO undercard too.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
something tells me that froch will win. he looked great against abraham! of course johnson is a beast with utmost respect here~! and will no doubt make it a great fight. excited about this one!
it could go either way. if johnson makes it a nasty war he has a damn good shot!
i like both fighters!

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Froch will win a wide descision
im still in 2 minds whether or not to stay up for it
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I reckon Froch will take it at a canter, and importantly he needs to look good doing so I think. He's really stepped up his game over recent fights, and now he's back on Sky hopefully he continues to progress.
And for those on this side of the pond, we get to see Gavin Rees v Andy Murray.....sadly its not the tennis player.

I think so too. Johnson was looking old in his last fights at LHW and he is just older and at a weight that it is hard for him to make. I think Froch is going to beat him up, his come forward style will be his downfall in this one.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I think it will be a wild fight. Loopy shots all over the place.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I was considering Johnson's recent fights and trying to figure out whether Froch is comparable to any of Johnson's recent opponents. I didn't have any success. He isn't as physical as Cloud and not as fast as Dawson, both opponents that Johnson struggled with. The comparison with Clinton Woods apears on the surface to be apt because they're both Englishmen, but Froch's style is different than Clinton Woods. I also don't see Johnson as comparable really to any of Froch's recent opponents.
Thus, this fight is tough for me to call. I'd be surprised and impressed if Froch put on a clinic comparable to the one he put on Abraham. At the same time, I have a tendency to underestimate the man from Nottingham.
Johnson looked good the last time out dispensing of Allan Green in 6 rounds, but that's Allan Green, not Carl Froch. Froch looked good dispensing of Arthur Abraham, but that's Arthur Abraham, not Glen Johnson. This may come down to Froch's ability to keep Johnson at bay with his jab and his right hand. I'm leaning toward Froch in a mixed decision or split decision win where Froch appears vulnerable throughout the fight, and escapes with a good win.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
As an aside, did people here know that Froch lost to Adrian Diaconu in the amateurs, and, it's that loss, which barred from joining the English Olympic team?
As far as Chavez Jr. v. Sebastian Zbik. I like Chavez Jr., probably by close decision. Vanes beats Roman maybe by KO.
Was Sven Ottke's best win over Glen Johnson?

Really Marble? I see this fight as really competitive fight, with Johnson giving as good as he gets. Glen may be 42, but this isn't his first 'war', and I don't see his career ending, or him getting battered by Froch. Froch likes to press the action, and Glen isn't going to back down, we could have helluva fight Saturday, i'm looking forward to it.

I agreed with this statement.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I definitely think Johnson's style will do well to drag Froch into an all out Brawl. Froch is a macho man and I think he'll actually like Johnson's power and try to match him for sneaky power punches.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Froch's woman Rachael:
The Official Website of Showtime Sports
A bit annoying eh?

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Don't forget we have Kessler back in action on showtime also. They are going to show it before Froch-Johnson.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I thought JCC2 looked very good against Duddy. Looking forward to see how he progresses actually.
I think Johnson will do surprisingly well against Froch, I think Froch may gut it out, but he'll be bloody and bruised.

Agreed, Glen is a tough customer, this won't be a easy fight for Froch in Atlantic City.

Thanks, I forgot about that one, it should be worth a look:
At Copenhagen, Denmark (Showtime, same-day tape): Mikkel Kessler vs. Mehdi Bouadla, 12 rounds, super middleweights
Good weekend of boxing, I have both Showtime and HBO, but i'll likely catch Kessler vs. Bouadla on a stream earlier in the day.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Zbik was deemed not a good enough opponent for Martinez and had to relinquish his belt. Now that HBO want to kiss Arum’s butt they have given their approval for Zbik to fight JCC jnr. Totally nonsense and not worthy of the classification of “world” title. Froch wins against Johnson no doubt.
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I started off calling froch a damn joke.....but outside of ward i think he's beats everyone else's ass right now.

Nice to see that you acknowledge that he is a good fighter. You are right he is the second best fighter in the division.
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I don't think Froch has that much of an edge because Johnson is still adjusting to this new weight and has fought stronger and more skilled fighters in the light heavy division. If Johnson is aggressive early and gives Froch a good body beating before going upstairs things might even out and it will be a close decision either way. Froch is not that skilled and Johnson is not young either so for at least four rounds it will be competitive. I'm not picking against Johnson because he's a good guy but I'm no fool because Froch is still learning the only question is did he learn enough for Saturday night?

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Froch will batter Johnson.
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I think Glen Johnson is gonna win this fight.
The question is whether or not he will get the decision. :-\

Hmmmm, I wouldn't say Froch wins without any doubt, there's definitely some chance Johnson could win this.

That's been part of Glen's problem over the years, losing close fights that go to a decision. Many of Johnson's fights, because of his style are very hard to score, the only way he gets the nod is if he clearly dominates.

I think I've seen Glenn really fading physically and Froch near his peak.

I can understand your reasoning, I just feel like Glen has enough left in the tank to make this interesting.

Sky are showing both the Kessler fight and the Froch fight on normal sports, no PPV!
Going to be a good night
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I think Froch will win a relatively clear decision. Johnson's tough and I think it will be hard fought but as long as Froch doesn't allow himself to get dragged into a battle and uses his skills he should be able to win and win well. I'm looking forward to it.
It should be good to see Kessler back in action too, hopefully he's still got enough left to have some good, competitive fights with the S6 guys and Bute.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Really annoying but great tits:p Froch wins easy.
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I'm pulling for Johnson..... Froch is to arrogant... maybe after he proves himself a little more.. You really have to be elite to claim another respected boxer won't win a single round. This isn't hype talk from Froch, hes so damn insecure that it resorts to an overly arrogant blabber from his mouth.

Wow you are a fucking idiot, have you decided to take the 1% of the build up where Froch says Johnson wont win a round? You are known as a fucking hater with blinkers on, all through the build up the respect between Froch and Johnson has been nice to see, they have had nothing but respectful things to say especially Froch but I guess you no this and decide to tell us Froch is arrogant and has a blabber mouth to say he will win every round. Fuck off mate seriously.

Wouldn't Sky be showing the Froch fight live at something like 3:00 AM Sunday morning in the UK?

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Glen Johnson has pulled some really, really good fighters into battle. Glen Johnson is definitely not Arthur Abraham and will not cover up on the outside and just hope things get mixed up inside. He also never seems to age and his will never gets broken. Froch can work from range but Johnson is cagey and isn't exactly easy to land on. He's also got a crazy chin.
It seems like I always pick against Froch but I don't know here even though this is finally a seasoned guy and I think Johnson might do it. Tough one, no result would surprise me. Well, a Froch knockout would but that's about it. I could see either guy dominating the fight and either guy winning a close decision.
-
Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Well I'll be rooting for Johnson all the way. Will he win? Probably not. I think he'll give Froch a real tough fight, but I think Froch will get a close decision. Unfortunately. :p

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
Johnson is starched. He looks emaciated. You cant just shred muscle. Ask Roy. He's got about nine minutes to complete his task and then Carl is going to proceed to kick his head in.

Re: Froch vs. Johnson on Showtime Saturday - the Super Six continues
I like both fighters, but I've been saying Froch by early/mid round TKO for a long time now and I'm going to stick with that. Honestly, I don't even think it will be all that competitive.
Johnson is old, at a bad weight for him, and I don't think he has enough left to beat Froch.
