Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
Personally I could give a flying fuck less if this clown ever fights Pacquiao or anyone else. Do boxing a favor, leave and don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out, good riddance.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
Mayweather cares about mayweather, this guy does not give a shit about our sport, I for one dont really cares what he does anymore , because he certainly does,nt represent boxing the way a so called legend should. All he does is fight small fighters , and slag off true legends , like SRL ,he could learn a thing or two from great fighters like SRL ,1 fight great fighters 2 beat great fighters 3help spread the word of our sport by actually fighting once a year .

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
I would love to see him and Pac fight, but i really don't think that fight will evere happen. With that being said, i could care less what he does. Fight, don't fight, who cares. Boxing will be good with or without PBF.
-
Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
Big fan of Floyd here but i wouldnt mind at all if he retired. Boxing doesn't revolve around Floyd nor pacman so i could care less...
There are far more exciting fighters than these guys.
-
Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
I really hope to see him again, just as I hope to see Pacquiao fight again. I always will want to see these guys one more time because they are great & I see no young guys on the horizon with anywhere near that level of skill. That said, I feel there is only one remaining fight for him & Manny that is genuinely interesting.
However, if he doesn't, it's not the end of the world. Boxing will go on & there will be new stars.
It's hard to pick out of the options, because I feel probably a combination of all four.
*I will say the one thing that bothers me is the 'Mayweather only cares about Mayweather' thing. Good for him. Too many boxers have tried to please the fans, who show little concern for them once they've served their purpose. How many people here have looked to donate money to Wilfred Benitez as he sits alone confused about who he is, unable to hold a conversation & no longer able to control his bodily functions. Who reacted to my Genaro Hernandez thread thinking 'I should find out if he can help donate money towards his family'? I'd say very few because the reality is we demand everything of these men & then spit them out, saying it's not our problem, he should have managed his finances better. I'm not saying I'm much better either, I'm just as guilty.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
Ahhhhhhh batta batta batta swing
Mayweather does absolutly nothing for me as a boxer or personality now. Honestly I believe him to be bad for the fight game and more worthy of a day time reality show more so then being the main event in the ring. He's his own biggest fan, the man clapping with one hand and blocking a crowded hallway because he's too busy gazing at his smile in the mirror. Piss or get off the pot comes to mind. The silly cackling kid standing poolside dipping his toe in while other wide eyed eager ones fly by and fling themselves cannonball style into the water. He's a status clinger, the protector of the '0' and more and more a lifesize version of two girls & a cup because his own cup of bs runneth over. Some fight, some talk about fighting, and some simply talk to hear themselves talk. Floyd looks to be cut from the cloth of the third case and content to rest on trinkets and obviously solid talents though I think he'll go down as one never fully realized. A form of what's ifs and many top calibur match ups that never materalized and he has only himself to blame in the end. Injury, nor ring wear and not inability or lack of skill have sidelined this man, rather it has been a choice and apparent preference. He acts like his legacy has been written. I do not think him a great fighter, but a boxer with great skills. He can retire tomorrow and I wouldn't blink an eye.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
If Mayweather doesn't fight Pacquiao then he definitely hurts his own legacy, whatever problem PBF has with Pacman it didn't bother Marquez, DLH, Cotto, Hatton, Margo or Mosley?
The challenge is there for PBF, i'm not buying his excuses not to fight him, if Pacman is doing something untoward then why has he not been caught, stripped of titles and banned from boxing? Athletes, swimmers, cyclists get caught all the time, what is PBF's real problem? I'd say it's more like inactivity and a real fear of losing that 0 more than anything else!
I think PBF believes he can't beat him.
-
Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
Yeah I do care.
I can NEVER get enough fights out of great fighters.

VERY well said. I hammer Floyd and Calzaghe as much as anyone because they didn't do what I, as a fan, wanted them too. But if they can retire rich and safe? More power to them as men.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
I believe floyd is retired and I've accepted and come to terms with the fact I don't think I'll ever see him fight again.
It doesn't bother me.

Because boxing only does urine testing which detects fuck all.

Those are sports that have out of competition random blood testing and that's why those people get caught.

It will be the one thing that shadows his otherwise brilliant career.

The urine tests haven't bothered anybody else since Pacquiao turned pro 15 years ago and 58 fights later, my opinion is just that... until Floyd proves otherwise. There is more to this than just a piss test and what Floyd thinks Manny Pacquaio is doing. Boxing really needs this fight, in fact it needs two fights at least, but i doubt we will see it.

I can't think of any fighter who's been "far more" exciting then Pacquiao the last few years, but I don't even bother to watch Mayweather's fights.
I would agree however, that there are lots of entertaining fighters around besides Pacquiao, and while boxing will miss him much more then they will Mayweather when he retires, new stars will emerge to take his place.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
i don't care about Mayweather but I do care about the sport
if PBF and Pac don't get it on then ther are robbing us of a fight which would draw a line under this generation of p4ps and we could move onto the next. They could both retire after that (as long as it isn't a draw !) and people would back them in giving up.
but imo Floyd is sticking two fingers up at the sport that made him 'money' Mayweather and don't give a shit about the fans. He is certainly afraid of Pac for some reason but I actually believe he would beat Pac quite convincingly.
-
Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
I hope to see him against Pacquiao one of these days. However, the "I am retiring/taking vacations/refusing offers lasted too long, I lost a huge part of interest because of that waiting in the meantime and there are so many other interesting fights that can be make in the meantime. If that fight happens, excellent, otherwise there is plenty to look for anyway.
-
Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
I would actually prefer him to retire at this stage... We had a good 2+ years without him, and in comeback he fought a 130 pound fighter, and Mosley which were both zero in the interesting catagory..
One of the most talented fighters i've personally seen, but he hasn't fought anyone relevant to his legacy or that of a great fighter in at least 4 years, and has proven he does not intend to in the future, so just retire...
A legend would have downed Mosley, and signed straight up for Martinez.... Unless he grows some balls to go along with the skills, there is no point at all in boxing have his name listed as an active fighter....
Retire and be done with it.... I couldN'T care less about what he does from this point on.

Spot on, last meaningful fight was with Hatton, after that he doesnt want to risk himself anymore !
He'll never fight Pac, too scared. May as well retire now, thats the only fight we want to see him in.

And mosley wasn't bothered about doing a random blood test. Clean athletes don't care. But none of that matters because when all's said and done the fight's not happening.
I agree boxing maybe does need this fight. It would be HUGE. But it's not going to happen, as fans I think we all need to move on and away from it.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
I don't care anymore, clearly there is a lot more to boxing than one man. And if he doesn't want to take part for whatever reason then that is his call. No big deal.

Good post, it echo's my sentiments, at this point Mayweather isn't relative to boxing, and if he leaves boxing he'll fade into oblivion, and be remembered NOT as an alltime great, but as an unpopular fighter who failed to live up to their potential.

The only fight I'd like to see Mayweather in is either with Pacquiao or Martinez. Other than that, he can stay retired.
Okey, I'll give him a pass with Ortiz if he intends that to be a tune-up fight prior to facing either of the two.
PS: Oppps, sorry about that. I don't even know why I quoted Mark TKO.

I really don't believe if it did happen, Pac vs FBF, would be all that great. Everyone seems to think this would be the next fight of the century, but I don't believe it would be much above average, or even close to being FOTY material.
I seriously don't get why Duckweather gets as much attention or big money offers as he does, to me he's just a boring/brainless/semi-literate clown.

if floyd is going to insist on random testing up to the day of the fight i also don't think the fight is ever going to happen. pacquiao had categorically stated he's willing to take the test but just not too close to the fight. really, if they can agree on maybe a 7 day cut-off and i've seen in some freddy roach and pac interviews where they're saying that they're willing to do it, so i don't see any reason why floyd would insist on what he wants. i mean what kind of juicing can you do in one week? and they would have another test immediately after the fight. as much as i would like clean fighters competing, i also don't want pacquiao offering the excuse that the blood test weakened him in case floyd beats him coz it happened before in the first morales fight. but then it doesn't matter who's to blame coz ultimately all boxing fans are the ones who's going to lose out if the fight doesn't happen.

Re: Would you care if Mayweather Jr. never fought again or retired?
Floyd is a quality boxer who is the only boxer at welter who could possibly beat Manny Pac. However the longer he stays out the ring, and older he gets the less chance he has of winning the fight and people caring. The only reason his stock rises is because Manny is dominate over his opponents that he is clearing the division and challengers, so naturally we all ask about Floyd.
Floyd is definitely not a star PPV attraction or world wide celebrity, over in the UK at least. If he fights we will all watch if he does not then we will not really care. He is not worth the gross amounts of money people are quoting but sadly I think he loves his unbeaten record too much to risk the fight.

What are you on about Master? Did you see when 5000 people turned up to his workout in east London on 3 days' notice? I can tell you that at least with the black community over here, he's a huge star. I'd argue of active fighters, only Haye & maybe Khan are bigger over here.

I definitely disagree with that. I agree that Hatton part played a fight, but 1.4m people watched that over here, so he will have picked up fans. Less than 400,000 watched the Pac fight. I'd definitely say Floyd is bigger, I mean 5000 people don't turn up to see somebody they've got no interest in, I was there & it was all fans.

Fair enough that you have a point of view ...... but all boxers are in the sport for themselves, it's not a team game and the sport has left enough penniless brain-damaged wrecks in it's wake over the years.
I rate Mayweather as a fighter (and he is no worse a human being than many footballers, NBA players, baseball people and other sportmen) ans think he would probably have been competitive with any welterweight that ever stepped into the ring.
I'm not sure about your comparison with Ray Leonard though - I recall leonard turning pro for mega-money, picking his opponents very carefully on the way up, retiring and unretiring exactly the same way that Mayweather has been doing, and then returning for 'one off spectaculars' that he didnlt deserve given his inactivity and ranking. Leonard was a great fighter, but I think Mayweather is too.
Fighting Hearns for the first time was arguably the only real fighters risk he took. He denied him a rematch until Tommy was shot, Duran was moving up a weight and you would usually expect a good big un to beat a good little un, Hagler was on the slide and the decision was controversial! Fighting Ortiz seems a bigger challenge than coming back and getting knocked down by Kevin Howard!! (I think that was the guy?

Yes it would bother me as I like to see the best. I don't really give a damn about or read what they do outside of the ring - I like watching and going to boxing end of! For what it's worth we WILL see him again and I believe if (and it's a big if) he fights MP he would win - technically too good. I enjoy watching them both and have no preference.

Was you there Jaz?
That was sick, 18 months after he destroyed Ricky Hatton, we were all sining ''There's only one Mayweather''..... I felt a little bit guilty :)

I don't know if it's true, but I just read that Mayweather is getting $40 mil to fight Ortiz in September, so someone must love this gutless sack of shit, it sure as hell ain't me, I wouldn't pay 10 cents to see one of this clown's PPVs.
