Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
Women shouldn't fight, period. They need to hold some type of competition in the kitchen because a boxing ring isn't a place for them.

Well.. there are also some women that shouldn't even be considered women.

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
They had a male vs female fight a few years ago. Cannot remember State but B.F South most likely, the female won.
I think it happened a number of yrs ago in Vegas when Tyson picked up the WBA trinket as well ???

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
It should not be alloud, Men would just keep punching women in the boobs until they fell over.
I don't see why Tennis or football players cannot have mixed gender matches tho

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
No they're not I don't believe, but any female boxer will have sparred with men. Being a light-welterweight, I've sparred with a few of girls at our gym & they're very skillful & also great to spar with because you focus on your own technique without thinking about power. Very few of the best women go pro (certainly in the UK), however because there aren't the same financial incentives to do it as there are for men. In fact, through Team GB grants a lot of them will earn more as amateurs.
Anyway brockton I'm sure there will be some 147lb South Korean women who you can beat up in sparring as you prepare for your own pro debut.

I know Trainer Monkey was hoping to stick his wife in with another man and watch her get pounded.

When I was considering it, it would really have meant moving to the US because the UK is still now - 15+ years later behind the US and europe in terms of supporting womens boxing. I went from MA to boxing back to MA because there we so few women competing in boxing but plenty in thai & kickboxing.
But BBB have you gone a bit mental?

Yeah, I've noticed a lot more doing Thai & Kickboxing. It's odd that they'd do that because having come from kickboxing, you have far fewer trainers & officials who care about your welfare & how to best develop you as a fighter. Unfortunately, with the exception of those who've actually boxed & been around female boxers, the general boxing fan has ridiculously patronising attitudes to it.

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
that's what so annonyed me - it was fine to get kicked, take a knee or elbow to the face but god forbid a woman should get punched
I think it will take another 20 years before it's seen as more acceptable but it really needs some strong female role models. When I was training I studied fight tapes of guys because the women I watched were game but technically poor. I owe my killer left hook to the body to watching MAB, shadow boxing it, working it on the bag and then going looking for it in sparring. No one ever taught it me, I taught myself that one. Dropped one man and made another smart arse street fighter  back peddle and stop messing about from that one punch. Gained plenty of respect from that one hand;D not punched any watermelons though:( I think that's what was holding me back.:-\

Which amateur club were you with if you don't mind me asking?
All the girls at our club are very skillful, but one of our trainers is a woman so maybe we have quite a forward attitude to it.
You can't help it though. We can't all be naturally heavy-handed ;)

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
never officially carded, came close but there was no one to fight so I quit! I trained in a couple of gyms in Stoke - couple are complete shit but most of my training I did in Sheffield.
I spent a while training in a pro-am gym and watching the amatuers my style was far from that - the run at each other and flail for 2mins -nah not me, dumb.

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
If men and women fought seriously and competitive, I can already see people suing, marching against it, pointing fingers at the guy for not playing a bit softer and lowering his game, etc. Put the best man vs the best woman and it will end ugly with the woman probably leaving the ring in a stretcher.
I don’t have anything against women practicing martial arts or any sport for that matter. I am not interested, that’s all. If the best in women’s sports were at the same level as the best in men’s sports, then ok, different story but we haven’t seen yet and I don’t think we will ever see it.

Are you asking this question based on the sex of your first opponant ?

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
Women shouldn't be fighting men or fighting period. THeir asses belong in the kitchen making their men supper. The only time I want to see women engaging in any sort of combat sports is when they are mud wrestling in their bras and panties.

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
Women boxing is lame just like the WNBA. Like the poster above me mentioned, women shouldnt fight at all..
Showtime used to have these monthly PPV shows back in 04. It was called the Perfect 10 Model Boxing where fine ass models would box each other half naked. Something like that is cool.

Women's sports will always be a level below men's, that's just how it is.

Re: Are women allowed to fight men in pro boxing?
Man you guys are brutal. I'm all for women knocking each other around in a professional setting, and the occasional limp wristed fella if he warrants it. Its a different world now...hey they even get to vote now ;D.
edit, If I ever get jumped again I'd pay to have Ann Wolfe or Lucia Riker there ;D

bullshit lol . Beating up girls is pretty shameful but if any of those broads really asked for it, I'd beat their asses in and outside of the ring. You got to be kidding me. And im not talking out of my ass either.
Id let Gina Carano have her way with me though. ;D

Bulldog was clearly joking, but those attitudes belong in another century. One of my trainers is a woman & she knows boxing as well as anyone & from a technical standpoint has more insight than any poster on this site, Scrap obviously excepted. If women want to fight, they've got every right to. The problem is that the majority of the talent remains in the amateurs because of the way society is. There are very fewer chances for them to have fights & that leads to weaker fighters when they go pro. 'Models' boxing each other half-naked demeans the sport.

I'm 6"1 welterweight with an amatuer record of 42-2.. Ive sparred with Kendall Holt, Ji Hoon Kim and In Jin chi and held my own so I just can't see myself getting beat up by these females. OF course Wolfe/Riker are bigger than these men but it's still different because they're females. A junior welterweight male fighter is about equivilant to a SMW female fighter, I believe..
BUt i dont really have a problem with women trainers though. Anybody can be on the outside looking in and as long as they have the eyes for it, women can be just as good of a trainer..
I was half joking about that model boxing, bro... When it comes to female boxing, Asian countries like Japan and Korea has always produced quality fighters in the lower weights. Their competition is deep too so alot of their fights are explosive. I watch them sometimes but that's about it. Anyway I agree with your assessment of women boxing in America.. It's not organized enough like it is in Asia..

Fair enough, I was curious if you were one of those people who's never boxed before but thinks that they can easily kick a professional fighter's ass. Man, with that kind of record you must have been thought of to box internationally right?
This trainer was a very accomplished fighter, she was the first woman to box internationally for Great Britain, so she's clearly got more than just an ability to look in well. I think she's just really unfortunate that she retired a few years before women's boxing became an event at the Olympics.
