' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
I speak to Ji Hoon regularly and he says he's making adjustments right now and wants to face Molina in the near future. He was discovered on the streets and picked up boxing at the age of 17 where he also turned pro so he's been learning on the fly. He used to be a bad azz on the streets and he tries to fight like a street fighter in the ring too which has been his biggest mistake thus far. But he's going to try to box more and pick his spots. He's a big dude in his division and he's still young so he has time to grow as a fighter..
Does he beat any of the fellow LW brawlers like Molina, Katsidis and Rios? What about Mercito Gesta?
-
Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
Didn't know that about him, thinking about it, it definitely explains a lot. I think Molina is a good match-up for him if his chin can hold up. He has the power to trouble him imo.
Katsidis or Rios would be terrible though. They're just too many levels above him. Katsidis is remarkably skillful in getting on the inside & Rios is just a beast, who I believe will take over 135 after JMM.
Seen a bit of Gesta & I'd have to favour him, I think his speed takes him to a decision.

I'm kind of bias when it comes to Kim for obvious reasons but one thing ill say is that he must switch trainers immediately if he wants to make it far in the states. It's scary to see all those holes in his defense. At this rate he might go washed up in his mid 20s. I mean we dont need another Yo Sam Choi and Kim Duk Koo situation but his style kind of worries me.. I suggested that Goosen or Robert Garcia might suit him better but he plans on staying with the current trainer out of respect and loyalty..
They're not teaching him any defense or technical skills... Like most Korean fighters, they're all about offense, take 2-3 or even 4 punches to land one of its own..
-
Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
He's a fun fighter to watch, but you are right about the defence. He eats far too many punches for his own good. Actually, I would like to see Kim Ji Hoon take on Brocktonblockbust. You know, just for a laugh. It would be good to see him deal with the power.

I don't think anyone deals with Brocktonblockbust's power. He's a monstor for his weight.

well you tell him next time you speak to him Im down in Kumi City, and I'll spar with him any fucking time he wants to demonstrate how Ramien Noodles made his arms and legs quiveringly weak and lacking in muscle strength. We can videotape it, me vs Ji Hoon Volcano Whatever-The-Fuck, and put it right here on Saddo's for all to see me wither his white little korean heinie in under 4 rounds.

forgot to ask whats his weight, I aint fightin no heavyweight

haha, bad move for the Volgayno, if he takes 2-3 or even 4 punches HE WON'T BE CONSCIOUS TO LAND ANY OF HIS OWN.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
WHAT??? THIS LITTLE PRICK JUST TURNED 19 YEARS OLD?? SUPERFLYWEIGHT?? HOLY FUCK! i'D BE ARRESTED FOR MANSLAUGHTER AND CHILD ABUSE SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
This has the potential to be a real matchup, just need to get a CW sorted out as they are all the vogue these days and then we have the showdown that we have all been awaiting.
Kim Ji Hoon versus Brocktonblockbust. Could well go down as a modern classic.
-
Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
SERIOUSLY DUDE. What is CW? I'm not a pro, so I assume this will be with headgear. What ounce gloves? 3 minute rounds, no standing 8, no 3 knockdown rule as I wanna reel him and rock him like that Firpo fight or even how Dempsey trashed Willard around like a little bitch. Make sure the little pip-squeak agrees to 10 rounds.--- I ain't cuttin him no breaks and lettin him off the hook with no 4 rounders.
-
Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
Also, I am down now into the 180s but have a bit to go to hit my fighting weight of 147. My only requests before fighting this Lava Lamp is to be able to consult with a trainer 2 or 3 times and getting some heavy bag work in, as I have no access to either speed or heavy bags here in Kumi.
At the rate Im losing weight, I'll be ready at 147 sometime in late-July/early August.

CW means catchweight, you get used to the acronym the more you follow Manny Pac. So, you would clearly need your headgear because we need to protect your proud nose and him too because your power would likely be a bit much. 10 two minute rounds sounds about right as you are getting on and a man of your power most likely won't have great stamina. The knockdown rule sounds about right, so you can get your 'beating on a Korean' kicks. FinitoElDinamita will have to set this all up as he knows the man and has sparred with him.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
am indeed getting on, mate. no doubt. "proud" I never said, more like worried that a broken nose will not look nice. Never thought Id be fightin someone 30 years younger. Dont think even Foreman ever did that!
-
Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
Let Lava Lamp come in at 130 or so, clubbing around a 113 pound kid is starting to make me sick.
No, Miles, 10 THREE minute rounds is all I'll agree to.

No, I wouldn't like a broken nose either. It is a proud roman nose and it wouldn't look so nice broadened and flattened in any way. I would be quite happy to fight someone 30 years younger as they would most likely be about a year old. Not a problem for me really, but you have the sterner challenge ahead of you. Teenagers can be pretty feisty. Is he really that young, I thought he was a bit older?

He's a 140lbs Brockton. Are you not even going to get some sparring in first. Even I think jumping in with Ji Hoon Kim is a bit much. Then again, you'll have 7lbs on him. I think it's easily winnable. How about you take on ElFinitoDinamita? He's a half-Korean Welterweight. He obviously won't have your power, but it makes it a Saddo's only contest.

It's fantastic that we already have a willing sparring partner to build up to Kim Ji Hoon. ElFinitoDinamita has already offered to do so in his trip over this summer, Brockton should take him up on it to at least see if his power lives up to the hype and then maybe onto bigger and better things.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
f course i need to spar but only 20 rounds or so. what is his actual height and weight, i.e. is Boxers Records right that he just turned 18 yrs old and is 1-0, fought at 113 lbs?
What is the most I can weigh? Who makes the rules for the weights? will there be a weigh in?

Plus we get it recorded & we can see who is the true Saddo's Welterweight Champ.

Kid Thunder gets the winner, though clearly we will need to pass Kid Thunder off as Korean somehow if Brockton gets the win.

Can we even pass KT off as human? I think we could tell Brocktonblockbust that he's just beating up a genetic mutant & he's fighting for humanity. As he always is. Because he's the hero we need.

True, but there is no way KT is getting through Korean immigration. He wouldn't know how to fill out the immigration declaration form. It would be a fair scrap IMO, two guys who have never really sparred or trained before going head to head. I predict BBB to win by first round KO as that is the usual run of things in KT fights.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
i'm getting the distinct impression that there is some kind of history of fighters that miles and his friends on this forum have either seen fighting or trained or atl east met/dealt with in some way involving actual amateur fights or something. What were the venues? who are these fighters? what is the underlying sarcasm/tongue-in-cheek facetiousness that I am divining here? Who is KT? What the FUCK is going on? Why would I be able to K him TFO in 1? Does he even exist in any non-surrealistic way?

You are just not clued in, that is all. KT is a boxer with the nickname 'Kid Thunder' who is known as Andrew Hartley, go and search him on boxing rec, he is a real person. All I was suggesting is that you would be able to beat him, but he would likely not be able to get to Korea. You would be able to knock him out in 1 because he is not a particularly good fighter. I suggested it because you both post on here. He is a real fighter, go to boxing rec and search the name.

this optimism is getting to my sense of confidence. nor will we ever forget these enigmatic threads, for the life of us. I probably could smoke him in 3, as my timing is quite off momentarily. A little speed bag and heavy bag of course, and Andy will be in for a difficult time. I promise that, and if you want to keep feeding me names unknwn to me in order for me to pad my record with easy wins, it's a pleasure, as my plan gung-ho as it is is to stack my record to about 8-0, then get some sort of Korean title shot. 8-0 should do it.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
remember Spinks was 7-0 when he beat Ali.

Re: ' The Volcano ' Ji Hoon Kim wants a piece of John Molina
Do you know who controls Korean Boxing? lol You're not getting anywhere near a title shot unless you're bloody good or if you know some men in black suits.

You can also scout some Andrew Hartley on You Tube and see how your styles matchup. He is quite hittable and with your power, well it could be interesting.

Nobody controls it per se, but there has been corruption. Surely you remember Jones Jr at the '88 Olympics. A clear robbery, the judges didn't do it because they were nationalists.

Well, with his power you would imagine so. Unless Brockton has seriously gone overboard on what he thinks he can handle. A man needs a starting block though.

They are pretty awful, but they show you that you don't always need to train to box. Nor even have much of a brain. But these people were able to box pro which is what you want to do, so don't knock opportunity when you see it in an obvious way.

Very solid, I'm not so sure if he is going to be able to work off 40 pounds though. He will have to go on the soju diet.
