Your favourite ever fight and why?
Title says it all really. I'm just getting into boxing (I'm quite young) and want to know some truly amazing fights to watch. Obviously you guys know a lot more and have seen a lot more so I'll be interested seeing your opinion. So go on. If you could have been at one fight because it was just that great in your eyes. What would it be and why?
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
THE FIGHT that turned me totally insane about Boxing was Ray Leonard/Thomas Hearns 1... My gosh, I watched it live as a kid and was mesmerized. I didnt understand what love-at-first-sight meant until I witnessed that fight. I love that fight so much because, not only was it a historical event between two future legends at their best, but, the fight had everything one would expect to see in a great boxing match. There were little bit of technical boxing, some brawling, back to boxing, stalking, constant change of momentums,all to a dramatic ending.. I mean that fight had it all!! I was also intrigued by it because the level of skills shown by the both fighters. Both guys were multi-dimensional with every weapon in their arsenal, every punch thrown looked so beautiful as their punching forms were flawless..
If I were to be taken to an island with just one fight of my choice, it would be Leonard/Hearns..
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
My favorite fight is bitter sweet , because my boxing hero Tommy Hearns was brutally knocked out by Marvin Hagler.
But the fight was just amazing, the methodical war machine Hagler came forward like an animal , and the skilled distance boxing HITMAN stood with the rock chinned Marvin for 3 rounds of warfare.
The result wasnt ideal for me, but the fight is forever a part of my life and memories.
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
Duran V Barkley , would give anything to be there for that fight , Hands of stone last HURRAH , this fight had it all a must watch fight , 38 yo DURAN stood toe to toe against a much bigger foe , but put on a stunning performance of guile,skill and power to win a close decision,amazing . Hagler v Mugagi is another great fight , Marvins last great fight .
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
Barrera v Morales I was the most amazing and insane fight ever, it was 4am and I was wide awake and could not take my eyes off the fight.

haha good call.. Morales/Barrera 1 is definitely the best fight of the decade..
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
I'm a fan of long grueling fights between men of immense skill.
The 1982 matchup between Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello was as savage, skilled and fast paced as anyhtinging I have ever seen. Just for starters the two greats threw 237 punches in the first round.
For something a little bit more elemental, the 1982 battle between Schoolboy Bobby Chacon and Bazooka Limon, their fourth fight, was 15 rounds of utter brutality and resolve.
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
Bunches of them, but here's a list of some that you should try and watch:
The Heavyweights:
Louis vs. Schmeling I & II
Marciano vs. Walcott
Ali vs. Liston
Ali vs. Frazier I
Foreman vs. Frazier
Ali vs. Foreman
Holmes vs Cooney
Tyson vs. Spinks
Tyson vs. Douglas
Holyfield vs. Bowe I & II
Tyson vs. Holyfield
Foreman vs. Moorer
```````````
That should give you a good start on Heavyweights, you can find a lot of these fights on youtube.
Nice list. You must be a fan of HWs.. I'd like to add some contemporary greats such as Brewster/Liakhovich and Lewis/Vitali to that list. I can't believe there are only few great HW fights in the last decade.
I love the natural reactions that arise when its on in a phone booth against two Mexicans,you cant beat that.
Good opening thread too and welcome.
I'm a fan of all weight classes, but generally speaking, in the last 100 years of boxing, nothing beats a great HW fight for excitement. I could have included exciting HW fights from the last 20 years, but I figured Tozzer might have seen most of those.
Lewis - Vitali would have been a good one to add, Lennox was the only fighter I can recall actually holding his own and/or being on an equal par with Vitali. And this was an older, out of shape Lewis in the twilight of his career, it made me think that Lewis was one of the 10 best HW's ever.
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
Leonard V Duran 1 'The brawl in Montreal' It's what boxing is all about, the new wave versus the old wave, remember Duran had been fighting for 12 years before this fight. He was the undisputed king of the Lightweight division coming up against new Welter king Leonard who had beaten the great Wilfred Benitez. Duran was awesome this night, he intimidated Leonard, (look closely at the pre fight ref instrcutions, Leonard knew he was in the ring with a monster) The atmosphere of that fight will never leave me. Sadly, we never saw the best of the Hands Of Stone ever again.
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
Wladimir Klitschko vs Sultan Ibragimov. Non stop action for the full twelve rounds. I'm actually surprised both men even came out alive.
On a serious note there are quite a few out there but I think my favourite is still Hagler vs Hearns. Every now and again I change my mind, normally when there is a classic that comes along like Barrera vs Morales 1 and Gatti vs Ward 1. But I always end up going back to that fight. The only problem with it was it didn't last long enough but 2 seriously world class guys brawling like that is just something else. Then the cut and Hagler "supposedly" being told he had a round to finish Hearns and then doing so. AMAZING.
I'm surprised there has been no Hollywood movie on Hagler, he was a superstar who made it to the top despite being avoided and written off for a long time. That would make a great film for me, BUT it would have to have original footage of his fights like they do in the Greatest. No actor could ever act the scene in the Hagler Hearns war.
Re: Your favourite ever fight and why?
Douglas upsetting Tyson= proves anything is possible.
