If he can knock out carrot top twice he might snatch a draw.

Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
Depends on how he beats him. If he somehow puts a beating on Canelo and wins convincingly, he'll probably milk his belt with a title defense or two while Canelo goes back to the chalkboard and take some tuneups.. rematch will materialize soon after..
But if he barely wins in a competitive fight, an immediate rematch will most likely take place.

I can't take anything you post seriously with that avatar. I read your posts in his accent and each post finishes with "fook off yer fat twat". ;D

If he is on form like against messi then he should pull it off, let's not forget Rhodes can hit hard and Alvarez doesn't have the best defense

This kid (Canelo) is just going to be too much for Rhodes, + the fight is going to be in Mexico, in front of Alvarez's rabid fans, no way Rhodes will win there.
-
Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
Rhodes has to dent the chin to win. Can he do that? Yes. Alvarez isn't exactly Margarito when it comes to the chin department. Cotto buzzed him and he had fought most of his fights at 135 and below.
I still pick the ginger kid.

Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
Who the hell is Ryan Rhodes? Still never seen him fight...I don't think he will do as well as Hatton did. (Get shut out but survive)

I seriously doubt it will b a shut out unless judges are bent!!!
There won't b any trade offs as that ain't ryans style.

If he loses I hope he goes out on his shield and goes down slugging it out!!!

Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
I think this is a great fight. Considering Matthew Hatton managed to go 12 rounds reasonably comfortably, as did Lovemore Ndou before him you'd have to assume this is going to be a long distance fight.
Canelo is no superstar inside the ring, no matter what his fanbase is outside it. He looks well below the level of even a Chavez Jr to me.
My feeling is that it will be a very competitive 12 round fight with Alvarez winning a disputed decision, much like Alexanders win over Kotelnik.
But at this stage in Alvarez's career its a tough matchup for the kid.

I'm a fan of Rhodes and think he can really pull it out but can't help think Alvarez will just swing for the fences, I mean hatton had faster feet than Rhodes!!!
Although I don't rate Alvarez boxing ability he has power to make boxing skill irrelevant

Outside of his ko of Baldomir I've not been wowed by his power. And Baldy was retired and back to selling featherdusters in Argentina so hardly the most live opponent.
I'm guessing Rhodes will be the biggest man Alvarex has ever fought. If he couldnt move welterweights like Hatton and Ndou I think Rhodes will be able to take his power. He has a real chance imo to make it a close fight. If its close though he has very little chance of getting a fair decision in Mexico so I think Alvarez wins if it goes to points unless Rhodes floors him.

do you like Rhodes or Macklin's chances more? assuming all things are equal, like no bias in Mexico or Germany.
-
I prefer Rhodes to most in uk as he hits and moves. He has learnt his lessons
-
Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
Rhodes can pull the upset and I fancy his chance more than if he was fighting in Germany. If Rhodes win then it is up there with John Stracy and Lloyd Honeyghan.

Macklin would do well imo also. If the Macklin that wrecked Asikainen and Elcock stepped up it would be a great matchup for sure.
But Rhodes is no gimme fight for Canelo. He should win, but I see it as a hard night's work and not a foregone conclusion.

Hatton managed to go 12 cuz he did like his brother and held and clinched every time Alvarez opened up. N'dou has never been stopped in his whole career. So no shame in Alvarez not stopping him. Rhodes I think is the biggest fighter Alvarez has faced. And he fights nothing like Hatton. I'm expecting him to take the fight to Alvarez and get butchered in the process

Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
I'm actually looking for Rhodes to counter the living daylights out of Alvarez, from what I've seen, Alvarez isn't all that hard to hit. Downfall for Rhodes will probably be some good body work from Alvarez IMO.

Have you seen Rhodes fight? There is no way he will do that. He'll stand and fight but it will depend on how quickly Alvarez can get on top of him to stop him moving.
Alvarez is made for Rhodes. Golden Boy ain't the smartest matchmakers with their prospects - Jacobs-Pirog/Maidana-Ortiz. Rhodes would murder Hatton. If he didn't need two KOs in Mexico he'd have a good chance.

Rhodes couldn't even murder a weak chinned scrub like Blundell. Not only that but Gary Lockett got the better of him. Now all of a sudden you thnk he stands chance against Alvarez? Come on now. You like facts than lets stick to the facts.
The man is 34 years old and no longer in his prime. Fact.
Even his prime he was never even that good. Mediocre at best. Fact
The man has had past title shots before and has crashed and burn each time. Fact
He's never fought outside the UK until now. And now he's gotta go into Mexico and try and beat the next big thing? LOL. The mans never won a big fight before. He ain't gonna start now

I don't really disagree with your points. Although Rhodes has excuses for the second two losses, which I don't give a fuck about to go into, and has never lost at lightmiddle.
However, Alvarez doesn't impress me much at all. If he was English you'd be calling him an overrated fraud. In fact, if you swapped these guys nationalities, and swapped the country it's happening in, then Rhodes would be favourite.
Alvarez will probably duff Rhodes up, for sure, but he is no certainty.
-
Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
If the 34 year old journeyman Rhodes has an advantage, it might be in 'experience' and the fact that Alvarez is still just 20 years old.
The thing is, "Canelo" is unbeaten, on a roll, and the fight is going to be in front of the home crowd in Mexico, Rhodes would either have to hurt, KO, or fight the perfect fight and/or dominate to get a win, and I can't see that happening.
My gut feeling is, Cinnamon boy lights-up the outclassed Rhodes, puts on a hell of a show for his homies, and stops him within 8 rounds.
-
Re: What if Ryan Rhodes wins??
I think it has be something to be considered, as Alvarez was getting caught fairly often by Hatton, and Rhodes is in a significantly different class, both in boxing skills and actually being in the right weight class to Hatton.
Still think Alvarez will probably get it, but its going to the cards, and a home decision to make the result wider than it should have been.

The only P4P list Alvarez ever makes is a blind man's. Fact.

Everyone can talk good s**t, I bet five bucks Rhodes makes it at least eight rounds plus. It's going to be competitive, however Alvarez likes his competition.

Good call Rhun. Rhodes cruised past the 8 round mark. You're now on my list of people getting destroyed in the prediction comp.

Exactly. So really who cares what Rhodes excuse. Bottom line is he's getting smashed
One of those fights I'd have called as PTS to Alvarez as I wasn't confident enough of a UD. Check out the SD I'm going to have on Haye v Klitschko in two weeks.
And in terms of Rhodes' competitiveness VD...maybe not that competitive but he did consistently cushion Alvarez' fists with his face, which is still a contribution to the fight.
