HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Williams vs Erislandy Lara might be a good one, the Cuban fighter, Lara, has a little power, so i'm surprised Williams is taking this as his first fight back after getting cold-cocked/starched by Sergio Martinez in his last fight.
July 9
At Atlantic City, N.J. (HBO): Paul Williams vs. Erislandy Lara, 12 rounds, junior middleweights; Akifumi Shimoda vs. Rico Ramos, 12 rounds, for Shimoda's WBA junior featherweight title; Cristobal Arreola vs. Friday Ahunyana, 10 rounds, heavyweights; Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Tomas Villa, 12 rounds, for Gonzalez's WBC featherweight title.
Should be a jolly good night of boxing here at Saddoboxing tonight! The Williams vs. Erislandy Lara card on HBO starts at 10:15 PM EST.

Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
ANYTHING to get us past this weekend and off the topic of 13.
BIG weekend isn't it?
Does Lara do enough to handle Williams? I wouldn't have thought so. Of course the question can also be raises is Williams still Williams?
The more I think about it, the more I think this has become an important fight for Chris Arreola.
I don't know anyhting about Shimoda except beating Ryol Lee was no joke.
I expect Gonzales to trash Villa (how'd he get this fight anyway?)
Antillon is the guy who gave Soto a pretty good fight IIRC. That'll be fun. I think as long as we have him Rios is always going to be fun.
Man I hadn't realized how Long Cintron had been out of the ring. Still he should handle this guy, shouldn't he?
-
Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
Atillion vs Rios is going to be brutal, mutual, concussive and brutal some more. Isn't Friday the guy who "broke" Tysons back ha? Williams and Lara is a crucial crossroads fight. If Williams chin hasn't become an instant easy to open Jack n the box I think he beats Lara.

A word about last nights fights: damn am I glad Klitschko won. And actually since he did, I thought it was an entertaining fight.
OK, that said, yup, some good fights, this weekend, a smorgasbord as it were, and my man Kermit back in action. With Cintron, you get a little "theater" along with the fights. hahaha.
If I were Lara, i'd test Willaims' chin early and not let him gain any confidence. Some pugs comeback well from KO's others don't, so we shall see.

"Bam Bam" Rios only knows one way to fight, aggressively and straight ahead, it's going to take someone with some serious power to discourage him, the little fucker is a whirling dervish.

Why do you insist on calling Haye "13" ? Because of his punch out put ?

Yup. Average number of punches he threw per round against Valuev. I thought at the time, and still do, that it showed a stunning lack of desire and committment.

Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
what Williams will we get?
He not only had gotten face planted by Sergio. Martinez dropped him violently and gave him hell in the first fight. And Cintron landed a few bombs on the chin in their abbreviated contest.

Fight thread for tonights Showtime & HBO fights
Could I please get a mod to do a fight thread sticky, and change this thread's title to the above?

Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
great night of fights on FNF and then a schedule that is a fight fan's dream for tonight. Lara vs comebacking PW (almost all of PWs fights have had action). Cintron-will he or won't he do something crazy??? (if you don't count already him coming in almost 3 pounds under the limit of 152 crazy). Rios and Antillon are in good to great fights every time.
Get the popcorn popped. Grab quite a few of your favorite beverage and it should be a great night.
I'll take PW
Cintron
Rios

Lot's of fights tonight Capt, i'll be switching back and forth from HBO to Showtime. I'm not sure what i'm going to be drinking tonight, but i'm leaning toward a couple shots of Crown Royal with a diet pepsi back over ice.
cheers bro..
BTW, i've got it the same way, Rios, PW and Cintron.

Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
Just from experience I think it works better if we have two threads, one for the HBO card and one for the Showtime card since they're coming on at the same time. Some people might want to watch the HBO card first and DVR the Showtime card (or vice versa) and they won't want to be posting in a thread with other people posting about the other fight.
I'll sticky both.
Do you care at all if this is the HBO or Showtime thread?
-
Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
I'm tape delayed and the cards are on at the same time. So it'll be late before I'm on.
Have a blast guys!

Why not make this one the HBO thread.

Re: Tons of fights on Showtime & HBO Saturday July 9th
Anyone got a stream, seems like XME have gone down :-\

Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
I'm sticking with my (probably stupid) pick of Lara by KO. Its probably an overreaction but I kind of think Williams is on the downswing. Lara's a bit lazy but Williams will probably force him to fight and I think the cleaner shots will be Lara's.
Or he'll just clam up for 12 rounds. :-\

I believe Williams will be desperate for a win, if he loses he's pretty much done, he takes this by a TKO or UD. ;)

Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Is there supposed to be a televised undercard fight here?
It can't possibly be Arreola-Ahunanya as there was legislature passed against Friday ever being on TV again after the Dominic Guinn fight (bad memories :o).
Ramos-Akifunda (spelling)?

This is on HBO B.A.D. (Boxing After Dark) so they should show Akifumi Shimoda vs. Rico Ramos, 12 rounds, for Shimoda's WBA junior featherweight title, fer sure, and Arreola-Ahunanya if they have time.

Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
What streams are you guys using? The links I have they all want you to download something to watch them?
Is there any other XME alternatives where you just pay a small amount to watch a HD stream via your browser?
I'm used to 720p streams now!
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
I'm showing Showtime scheduled for 3 hrs ???
Ever see "Knowing" w/ Cage. Jeezus what a depressing movie

Bilbo, you just have to keep working those streams, that's all I can tell you.

Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Just starting on HBO, Akifumi Shimoda vs. Rico Ramos, 12 rounds, for Shimoda's WBA junior featherweight title.

Glad to help Bilbo, unfortunately streams aren't a perfect science.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Shimoda vs. Rico Ramos, a rather uneventful in the first round.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
After 3 rounds I give Shimoda the edge, and so does Ledderman... 3-0.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
can i get a link for this card and the Rios fight? i'm out of town right now so it'd be appreciated ;D
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Rico Ramos comes back in the 7th round to KO Shimoda, beautiful left hook for the KO.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
A trimmer Arreola, gets the nod in a 10 round decision over Ahunanya in an earlier fight.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Love listening to a Paul Williams interview. He was punchy before he even took up the sport.
" Well that's where the cookie crumbles you know what I'm saying, I'm doing what I always do and you know what I'm saying, it is what it is, you know what I'm saying, hey"
No I have no idea what you are saying but I hope you win tonight.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Williams' self-belief seems good but his trainer saying nothing could be done better to avoid the Martinez KO' is kind crazy.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
This fight is way too soon for Lara, but I'm hoping he can pull off the upset.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Fuck off kellerman you cunt!!!!!!!!!!!
I respectfully ask on this site for no spoilers by the posters here and you fucking ruin it for me instead you fucking prick.
You better not tell me the brandon rios result!
wanker

Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
Rios fight hasn't even started I don't think. Douchey move though, HBO loves that.
-
Re: HBO Card Thread: Williams vs Lara
I can't remember the last weekend where we weren't honouring a boxing great passed away :-\
Somebody dying every single week now.

They're just getting into the ring now. The fights will pretty much be happening concurrently.
I might come in here to post a spoiler just to piss Bilbo off...
