Re: Just bought FNC - any tips?
play the story mode game first to get you used to it then go online into world championship
I think legacy mode is pants
only problem with online in this version is that its not a level playing field and those who have had many fights will have built their boxers up. Likelihodd is you will get twatted your first few fights but eventually you will start to build up yourself and begin to mix it. You can even buy power ups for your fighters which is utter bollox if you ask me.
Don't waste your punches and don't throw power shots all the time. Personnaly I stick to countering and staying out of the way. I also play on total punch control with right stick and refuse to use buttons ! Shouldnt be allowed ! The thing is with the stick its near impossible to match the punch rate of a button basher - though I have noticed that if they dont knock you out in first 2-3 rounds they begin to tire, some drastically !
Are you on PS3 ?

I'm on x-box. I haven't set up an online pass yet - only been playing Tiger Woods so far. I'll do that though.

Re: Just bought FNC - any tips?
What are you doin H, get yourself online!
Seriously, when you do, let me know ;)
I actually find Online fights to be a little too cheesy. Too many exploits and spam tactics for me. I much prefer the 'sim' feel of a fine-tuned AI
I did Story mode 1st then Legacy mode then a lil bit of OWC.
'Fight Now' has always been my main stay though...
Also, explore the download boxer/ boxershare(internet version) features to expand your roster. I currently have over 120 action figures boxers ;D

Re: Just bought FNC - any tips?
online play has improved Jim since the last patch. spamming not as effective
give it another go
things that annoy me still are :-
- the removal of the one punch knockouts
- the same old shit with getting up. First time is easy, second time not so, third impossible etc...
I fought a guy other day and lost as didnt get up second time. He had got up 3 times so I assumed I had won. Was stunned when ge got up.
Even if a fighter has no stamina left or health and gets floored for first time in last round he still gets up easy ! grrrrrrrrrrr

Had a little go this morning. First thoughts are it's to hard to get the correct punch, because there is such a fine difference on the analogue stick between punches. Also cannot figure out what my tactcis are yet, need to just play 'Fight Now' for a while to get used to the controls I guess. Don't think I am gonna be any good at this tho :(

Have you played any previous FN titles? If your used to thumbing out punches then it may take about 20 fights before you start to really get the hang of the new punch/ block system.
If not then I'm not sure but just bit by bit. The big plus is you are a boxing fan and so instinctively you'll start doing all the right things once you've figured out which way is up.
1st things first. Understanding your fighters ratings:
Two ratings systems. Athleticism & Skills.
Just a quick side note for the sake of orientating your a little ---> Incase you were wondering, the reason guys like Lennox Lewis & Vitali Kitschko have such low overall ratings (85ish) is because the overall ratings is affected mostly a fighters Athleticism (Speed, Strength etc) rather than a their skill. In their case, they do not have high speed, endurance, reflexes ratings.
Anyway most of the Athleticism ratings are like Base ratings and are further enhanced by the SKILL ratings. For example, a fighter may have 85 strength, which relates to his base punch power and blocking ability but then this is further elaborated on by his individual punch ratings and Blocking ratings.
It's worth looking at how a fighter's individual punch rating goes up, point by point. You'll see that gradually, the punch's power, speed & accuracy are all affected.
In regards to Skill Ratings like Chin & Heart; they relate to a fighters susceptibility to getting stunned, or suffering one punch KO's in relation to of how high their Toughness rating is.
It's worth understanding a fighters ratings, what they mean, how they limit a fighter and what they enable a fighter to do. But in no way is it the be all and end all. If none of what I have just said made any sense. Leave it for now. I just figured it would be a nice place to start from.

I played R2, but not very much

Re: Just bought FNC - any tips?
The two main things I struggled with in this game were understanding why or how I was getting stunned/ stunning people and why I was unable to land combo's when I flurried.
Landing Clean Punches.
From what I can gather, this game is more about angles and openings than any other boxing game that I've played.
The automated blocking system works off reflexes so assuming your opponent isn't too tired, busted up or doesn't have the reflexes to defend themselves, you have to seek openings and work off angles to have any real chance of landing good clean punches.
You can't just tee off in this game. You might have a jab that is faster than a fighters reflexes but if you experiment you'll see that using the jab too exclusively will just wear your left arm out (yes you can wear individual arms out this time!)
'Openings' in this game relate to exploiting bad positioning where a fighter can't react by getting his elbows in or hands up quick enough.
For example if you are leaning to the left, your right elbow out of position leaving you open to a jab or maybe even left hook to the body.
'Creating Angles' is achieved by punching while moving (assuming you are one step ahead of your opponent's movements... think circling left while jabbing) or more effectively by timing you side-step after your opponent has committed to something like punching or stepping in to reveal a nice juicy opening.
Stunning/ Getting Stunned/ One Punch KO's.
The key principle to understand is that damage works on momentum as well as openings. That means that damage is not only rated on how clean the punch is, but also how much force is involved. This means that for example, your punch can be given extra weight if your opponent leans in to it. Also, there is a very cute system at play were your opponent can be seriously susceptible to damage at certain points of going through a specific motion.... Think of Hasim Rahman getting KO'd by Maskaev http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQeqquW1ugo
He's body was open and his force was just about to travel forwards only to be rudely interrupted by a big right hand.
I think I'll leave it there for now.... Until you have some more specific questions.

I only just picked it up a couple of days ago, and I'm finding it hard to get used to the punch styles, and even with the body shot trigger button, I'm still finding half the body shots I try to throw don't work out as body shots. Also, jabbing is quite difficult as the stick angles are so close together.

Re: Just bought FNC - any tips?
when you train in legacy mode. . go with sparring , rest, sparring, rest.
you gain stats and xp point better and faster. . . i never paly onine. . im not going to pay more to play a human in another city somewhere in the world when i can have one right in the same room.
the tune up from ea have bothered the game play .. but its the best boxing game to date still. i want the next installment already.
there is also rumored that there is another boxing game in production . . i think its hbo boxing if i am not mistaken.

You really have to get your body down low, make a real commitment to throw to the body... Just a bit more exaggerated than what your used to.
