FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Arizona's great hope Jesus "El Martillo" Gonzalez steps into the ring tonight against Francisco Sierra.
Gonzalez who has had a pro career full of illness and injury is trying to get back to his glory days in the amateurs where he still holds the claim as the last man to defeat Andre Ward, and holds victories over Andre Berto and many other current notables. Since joining the pro ranks his career hasn't taken off as much as expected and his lone pro loss was due to getting cocky and trying to outslug someone he should have been outboxing in Zertuche.
Also on the card 22 year old prospect Yuandale "Moneyshot" Evans tries to avoid the upset against Emmanuel "The Butcher" Lucero, Lucero has been sparked by some of the divisions mainstays but should be entertaining and will definitely be looking for a win, not just a paycheck.

Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Friday Night Fights in your neck of the words in Arizona tonight, Killer. :flame: :tumbleweed:
July 8
At Phoenix (ESPN2): Francisco Sierra vs. Jesus Gonzales, 12 rounds, super middleweights; Yaundale Evans vs. Emmanuel Lucero, 8 rounds, junior lightweights; Janks Trotter vs. Arturo Crespin, 4 or 6 rounds, junior middleweights.
Let's see what Teddy has to say about last weekend's fights, like I said even a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn, and every now and then even Atlas gets one right.

I was just looking at ticket prices, they're not bad $20 for nosebleeds - $210 for almost ringside. I may end up checking it out.

Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Back in 04 I spent a lot of time watching Gonzalez work out, as well as other fighters his father was training. They all had balance issues, and were all southpaws. It was the same every time; jab, left hand, right hook, wobble. I think somebody else is training him now. I last saw him fight in May of 05 when Gonzalez won but was knocked down. Good card. Jesus Soto-Karass fought, as did Giovanni Segura and Urbano Antillon.
Also on the Phoenix card tonight is Rafael Valenzeula, if his fight doesn't fall through, like his last one. He was ranked the #1 amateur in his weight class in 04 but lost in the Olympic Trials. Real class young man at that time, very talented. I thought he'd do well as a pro. He's 13-2 (6KOs) but hasn't fought since 10/2009.

Should be worth watching at least, I don't expect a FOTY or anything, but an honest effort.

Yup, whoever does the scheduling for ESPN FNF needs to be shot. Women golfers aren't known for their beauty are they, I bet it's going to be another 45 minutes to an hour or more, before this shit is over.

Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Good evening gentlemen. :wavey:
FYI, Sierra came in overweight. He weighed in at 175 for a contracted weight of 168, but the fight is still on.

Looks like Lucero will be victim #15 for Yaundale.

He won't need to if Lucero keeps walking into them. Lucero isn't known for his durability.
-
Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Lucero isn't exactly the reincarnation of Quetzalcoatl is he now. :-X
-
Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Good opening bout. Lucero is getting dropped because of the speed disadvantaged, but he is a tough customer who has landed some good shots in return.
This is a war of attrition.

He pretty much begins and ends with head in exact same high position yeh

Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Evans does that annoying grunting thing.
-
Re: FNF 7/8/11 Phoenix, AZ
Evans is KILLING me!
He's got good movement, but he moves without purpose!
He's got the tools, now he needs the teaching. Step LATERALLY, not backwards.
