Floyd is usually the gay, but Ortiz was there. "Not this one".....right so Floyd would be stopped by Maidana too right. Hahaha, Floyd is going to stomp all over him. You can't beat Floyd without a jab.

I reckon this fight will be a PPV, so if I do watch it, it will be on a stream. I like Surfer Vic's attitude, this could be an interesting fight because of Duckweather's inactivity and distractions outside the ring, it might be more competitive then most fans think.

Ortiz is gonna get beat up bad imo.
He's talking a good game but reality will set in on fight night when he can't get away from Floyd's right hands, left hooks, etc all the while he can't land anything of his own.
There's no way Floyd would of taken this fight if he thought that Ortiz had even a decent chance of beating him also.

Do you realise that this will be Duckweather's first fight in 16 months, and will only be his 3rd fight since the Hatton fight in 2007, close to 4 years ago?
I could be totally wrong, but I think this fight will be competitive, Floyd is good at the shit that he does, but he ain't fucking superman, there's no substitute for getting in the ring and fighting regularly.

 It doesn't matter.
Mayweather had long layoffs between his Hatton and Marquez fight. He still looked great. His layoff between Marquez and Mosley was quite long also and he still looked great. The guy trains all year round, he's always in good shape. I'm not saying he can do it forever but he's still clearly in good shape physically and mentally.
You don't have to be superman to beat Ortiz...........Maidana done it and Floyd is twice the fighter Maidana is.
Ortiz does nothing in the ring that to me proves he can beat Floyd.
He doesn't have a good jab and his footwork is average plus he is hittable. He only has alot of success when is opponent lies on the ropes. Ortiz only beat Berto because Berto constantly lay on the ropes and allowed Ortiz to throw his short shots.
Mayweather won't give him that, he will keep it in the middle of the ring using lateral movement and pick him apart with his jabs and lead right hands.
I see Ortiz losing clearly, he will be lucky to win a round imo.

Yes I do, Vic has been really active, Duckweather hasn't, and it may just catch up to him in this fight, and Ortiz won't be coming to play grabass like Mosley did. Unless Floyd takes the fight over early, he's going to be in for long night.

It's almost refreshing to see Mayweather get some shit for a change.
Anyway, Roach speculated after the Mosley fight that Mayweather's legs might be going/ gone... I'm still here hanging on his word tbh. I'm keen to see just how aggressively Mayweather chooses to fight THIS southpaw.

Aside from the (very)small chance that Floyd is going to have grown old overnight and lost substantial form, can anyone honestly point to one thing that Ortiz brings which will make this a competitive fight? He can't move laterally whatsoever, he doesn't have a jab, it's a freaking cakewalk for Floyd and he knows this. It's not a bad fight after a long layoff, but clearly a tune up. The people predicting a tough fight for Mayweather will probably be the same ones complaining about him even taking it after he wins. I'm not saying Ortiz is crap or that he isn't dangerous to a lot of guys, but I would actually put 50 dollars on him not winning a single round clearly, he has absolutely zilch Mayweather hasn't seen a thousand times. Wheras in reverse, the craftiest fighter Ortiz has fought would be... Nate Campbell?:-X Anyone remember seeing Floyd ringside at the Berto-Ortiz fight, after the(3rd or 4th) round where they traded knockdowns? He was clearly loving the action, but had this stupid grin on his face relishing what cannon fodder either would be to him, basically.

I said that inactivity might catch up to him but i don't think so right now.
He still looks to be in good shape both mentally and physically.
If all Ortiz has going for him is the fact he has been more active in recent years then he is in for a long night lol.
Ortiz can't make the fight competitive because he has a poor jab, average footwork and is hittable. He only has success when his opponents are laying on the ropes. Floyd won't be on the ropes to hit, i guarantee it.

Ortiz can't move laterally? Have you watched him fight at all? One of the things he does best is move laterally. I agree he doesn't have a jab, but he sure has a right hook, and look what Demarcus' hook did to Floyd.

I think if Floyd fights smart this will be a relatively easy fight, but if he definitely has more difficulties with southpaws because he can't control the pace with his jab or use his defense as effectively, but that's not to say he isn't still extremely hard to hit or that he isn't effective offensively, but he doesn't comit his body movement with his lead right hand as a southpaw as he does with the jab as a orthodox fighter. It should be interesting because this is also the first southpaw Floyd has faced that is distinctly bigger and stronger than him. Ortiz also has exceptional power, quite fast hands, and very fast feet. THe biggest thing this fight will answer is how Floyd deals with a southpaw right hook, and aggressive movement from a southpaw.

Ortiz will not win this fight.

If you watch the Berto fight you see he is completly wreckless and careless. He was kd three times i beleive on wicked counters by Berto. Now, if Berto is CPing you just think of what Floyd's gonna do. It'll be like a homeless man with a chicken bone.....floyd will just keep pick'n him apart till theres nothing left.

Power goes along ways and Ortiz has alot of pop in his punches to change the course of any fight. He has knocked down his last several opponents and him being a southpaw could be a nightmare for Floyd because Judah caught him and so did Chop Chop. I love Floyd but I think he is in for along night against the young lion.

He's actually dropped every single opponent he's been in the ring with. I mean you could see whenever he hit Berto that he had him all over the shop & he dropped Maidana 3 times I think? I think he's a very live dog in this one. I think he should try & be slightly less gung-ho than he was against Berto though. Charging forward in that fight nearly cost him.

I agree with you on this.
A lot of people seem to just automatically assume Floyd will beat everyone on autopilot and buy into his invincibility. More ironically, most of those who do this, are actually doing it to avoid giving him credit for his wins, 'Oh he just handpicked another easy opponent to beat' etc etc.
With the inactivity he has had ANY fighter would suffer, and if he does come back and stomp Victor Ortiz after yet another long layoff he deserves a ton of credit for it.
Coming back after 14 months out of the ring and only 2 fights in the past 3 or 4 years to fight Ortiz is a massive challenge.
Ortiz is no joke. Ok he came up short against Maidana but prior to that he was wrecking everybody, and he showed against Andre Berto (a better fighter than Maidana imo) that he can take a punch, and does have a heart.
Floyd although much much much better than Madiana, is arguably not as dangerous. He will be happy to outbox Ortiz and win without engaging which means Ortiz won't be under the same pressure.
Of course I heavily favour Floyd, he's an all time great imo, but Ortiz has the tools to cause an upset, and upsets do happen, especially when a fight maybe isn't as well prepared as he ought to be, or is overlooking his opponent, or has gotten past his best etc.

Obviously I don't study fighters in depth as you do, so I'll give you the benefit of doubt I suppose. I've only actually seen Ortiz fight Berto and Maidana. But if moving laterally is what he does best I'd sure as hell hate to know what he doesn't do well. He moved in a straight line repeatedly throughout both fights, it was the only reason Berto was able to really land anything big at all imo. Coming forward like that without jabbing is just asking to be embaresssed asking Mayweather, I guess we'll see how he does.

Re: Mayweather vs Ortiz HBO Face Off preview

Victor Ortiz has got a few things going for him, he's young and he is a Southpaw. Floyd Mayweather Jr has struggled and got rocked by a few Southpaw's. Plus he is pretty powerful, i think this is a more interesting fight than some people think.

 -

Re: Mayweather vs Ortiz HBO Face Off preview

I think if Victor applies pressure tactfully he will have a chance.

But Victor needs a jab and his is OK, I guess but that doesn't cut it.

Unless Victor can somehow mob and ruff PBF up I just don't see how Victor can win this.
The kid will def. try and he'll go thru hell I'm sure.

I like Victors attitude though...

Im interested in this fight imo I dunno how Vic will play in the first couple of rounds then ill decide, Victor is young and prolly be huge in this fight night, with Floyds many months of inactivity i guess he not will be bother either, Floyd is still top of his game even hes aged he has superb defensive skill in all ages.

IMO, this fight is going to be won, not by what Vic don't do well. Jabs and Lateral movement. But going to be own by what Mayweather do best. Stomach jab in the early rounds. Then pocket fighting. Floyd knows how to break fighters will to win. Although I think this fight is going to be tough for Mayweather, I do see him winning clearly.

Taft, I almost didn't see your reply because you're putting it in the wrong place, it should be here where I'm putting my reply. :)
I know a lot of fans want to see Pac-PBF, i'm just not someone who really gives a fuck if it ever happens. "Big fights" rarely live up to the hype, and Mayweather's fights' aren't worth paying money to watch.

All i'm saying is the fight figures to be a lot more competitive than some fans seem to think. Ortiz is a young strong kid with the right attitude, and Mayweather's inactivity and/or ring rust could end up being an issue in this fight. It would have to be a big upset if Ortiz actually won the fight, but I can envision a close, even controversial fight, and scores of 115-113 that could go either way.
P.S. This will be for Surfer Vic's WBC welterweight title, Floyd will have to take it. ;)

I know wat u mean its getting boaring all the politics bullshit, but wats got me is the fact mayweather isnt having his own way and its gettin 2the point where floyd needs pacman, mayweathers fights can be dull cos hes a defensive master and nullifies fighters, but again wats got me really wanting to see the fight is if floyd can shut out pacmans relentless furious attacks?!

If you could put any 2fighters in a ring i bet 95% of fans would pick mayweather n pacman, although I agree its gettin draining waiting, and all the politics of this fight are getting boaring but i do honestly belive the fight will happen eventually,

Some of quit believing that, that fight will ever happen, and to be honest I couldn't care less if it ever does.

Re: Mayweather vs Ortiz HBO Face Off preview

Ortiz might bring that Hatton factor in the sense that plan A is all your gonna see from Ortiz. Mayweather actually has to be careful of this... I don't think your gonna see a hesitant Ortiz at any part of this fight. Kill or be killed stuff.

All of this HBO Face Off stuff just feels too contrived and exaggerated.

Remember these words. Floyd will beat ortiz..then 2 years later manny will fight ortiz at a catchweight.
And then everyone will kiss mannys arse just like usual.
