Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
But they don't list a reason at all. WTF. Did Pavlik take the wrong road again regarding drugs and alcohol? Or is the guy he was fighting seem like too much.
This sucks. At one time, I really liked Pavlik as a fighter and thought he could be something special, what the fuck happened? anybody?
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Probably alcohol. He had a fight with his brother about 3 weeks ago and cops said he was drinking.

Ok, so basically, Bute will have to find a new opponent in a couple of months:mad:

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
It appears that it was a "business decision." He was apparently unhappy with the amount of money he was getting for the two fight deal for fights with Cunningham and Bute. He was quoted as saying he wasn't fighting a southpaw for peanuts. He was being paid a little over $1M to fight Bute.

Well if he won't fight Bute for 1 million, i don't see him fighting anymore.

Pavlik must have lost it completely, if I remember right he only made 500 k for his first fight with taylor and well he's in a worse position now perception wise than he was prior to that fight when he was the next big thing. He better come back down to earth and get his act together, but sadly all the signs are pointing in the wrong direction.
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
He must have lost it because there are so many journeymen out there that would give their souls for what he is refusing. Redemption has a price, it's pride renewed and the chance to go on. One million dollars is not peanuts either as someone pointed out earlier, it's more than 500K he took for Taylor.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
There are like 4 articles up on the ring mag site on this now. Apparently Pavlik heard that Kessler had been offered (and turned down) $3.5M to fight Bute (which, if true, WTF was Kessler thinking??) and once he heard that, he thought he was getting short-changed with a $1.35M guarantee.
Ridiculous all-around. Kessler is a bigger name than Pavlik -- who really doesn't deserve the opportunity to fight Bute in the first place, after losing his last 2 fights against elite fighters and looking terrible in his last outing against a journeyman.
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
If I were Bute? I cancel the Pavlik fight RIGHT NOW!
Pavlik is far too unreliable to count on.
I'd call Glen Johnson and ask him if he'd like that date.

Pavlik already did that. He pulled out of Saturday's fight and the Bute fight. Dude's career is over.
Jack Loew, quoted in this article (http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/1...ce-bute-next):
"Well, it is what it is,” Loew said. “He didn't show up for the run yesterday, but then we had a 10-to-2 p.m. workout scheduled for here [in Youngstown] at the Southside Gym. But he called me about 10 minutes before the workout and said, 'I'm not taking the Bute fight, and I'm not fighting on Saturday.’
"He said, 'Why should I fight Bute for $1.1 million if Kessler wouldn't take $3.5 million? And why should I fight Cunningham on Saturday if I'm not taking the Bute fight? So I'm not fighting either one of these guys.' That's the last conversation I had with Kelly.”

Sounds like Pavlik's back on the bottle.
-
Bute would school him anyway, pavliks done , his heads clearly not in the game. His loss, the 168 weight class is debatabley the strongest weight class anyway and I don't see pavlik making an impact on it anyway. He would get beat by froch ward bute and direll IMO.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
It's amazing just how on the brink of super-stardom he was before the Hopkins fight. I remember there was talk of him taking over from Oscar as the PPV star of America. I'm sure there was talk of a movie. Now he's refusing to fight for a mill & spends his time getting pissed & brawling with family members.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
TBH, after the stories the other week of him drunk and fighting with his brother, I've been rather amazed that nothin had been said and that this weekends fight was rolling on, as with his fight against Bute later in the year. After that story, I would have thought both these fights would have been called off a week or two before now and he'd be in rehab again already. Real shame I think. If this shit is still going on then he needs a reshape of the people that are around him. I'd say it is going to be one hell of an all time great comeback for him to recapture his great days from here on in.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
It must be a last minute attempt at trying to get the auction raised in his favor, the guy can have lost it but not that much... I imagine Cameron Dunkin and Arum calling him and being ... well, quite convincing that he's an idiot and that he has tu shut up and work. Either that or he properly trained and just pretends that this little scoffle happened. It's too big, I have difficulties to believe he can have lost grip that much and think he worths more after how he did act.
That or he realizes he needs a loadshit of money to cover up decently the ugly mega tattoos he got all over lately.

You're right. He makes Zab Judah look reliable doesn't he? It wasn't hard to imagine a future where Pavlik was making $15 million a fight. A hard punching, midwest white guy the best in the world? That's a ticket to riches.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Hmm after been asked about it, Jean Bédard, the president of InterBox, said that they offered more money to Pavlik than they offered to Kessler (Source ; CKAC.com).
Who to believe...Jean Bédard that, as far as I know, never lied to journalist...or Pavlik who's life is quite...interested these time.
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Like someone on this thread already said, if this is all true, Pavlik's boxing careeer is basically over.
Good riddance dumb-ass..
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Guys are being a little harsh don't you think. The guy might have serious mental issues going on.
Never the same fighter after losing to Hopkins. Sad.

Not by much though. Pavlik has only been beaten by Hopkins and Martinez, Kessler by Ward and Calzaghe. Neither has a belt at this time. I would have thought Pavlik would have been better known outside of Europe.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
This is a shame, I like Pavlik but clearly his head isn't screwed on in the right way anymore. The man has issues and I have a hard time seeing him back amongst the elite anymore. The least he could do is work hard and stay active, but he is seemingly unable to even do that. His heart isn't in this anymore and the losses seem to have ripped him apart mentally. He isn't the same force anymore.
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
i was hoping he would get his act together and be the old pavlik once again!!
so what if he dont make that much to get back in the picture, he looked like shit the last few times, and he should realize it was a chance to make things right, and to prove to everyone he still has something there.
but now, he wont even do that? WTF.
id be damned if i let drugs or alcohol ruin my life, if i had that much of a chance to do good like kelly does! he is wasting a great talent/legacy.
i feel sorry cunningham. he got screwed over.
-
I am speachless. He is my fav fighter. Or was my fav fighter I guess. I am just like desperately hoping somehow this fight can somehow go on. I just want him to be back where he was. Has serious mental issues going on now.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Kelly needs to retire. At least long enough to find his hunger, and lose his thirst. Seriously though he should duck out for awhile.

That's probably the most meaningful sentence that resumes the situation the best.

Bedard is normally a very likable and honest guy, I wouldn't still give him my soul but I could tend to believe that.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
I have all the empathy in the world for alchoholics, but none for white guys who shave their heads and get tatoos like that. I dont think he had a chance in hell of beating Bute anyways really.
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Meh, he's got issues obviously. I can't say this ruined my weekend anyway. And this way I can continue to talk about how Bute never fights anybody. Win.
-
Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
What Pavlik needed to do if he wanted to stay in the boxing game at the elite level was to move his training camp out of Ohio and get a new trainer. The temptation of trouble in Ohio was just too great for him to handle. It's a shame really. His career is basically over because he's too unreliable.

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
I think people need to put their sentiments in some context really. Addiction ruins so many millions of people, if anyone is going to let it destroy their career why not a dumb hillbilly who beats people up for a living. Dont get me wrong, its sad in the abstract and all.. But Pavlik is someone who is in a much better position to do something about this than most people. He was a good fighter for a while, made some money, just retire and try and clean up.

Why does it matter if he was a ghetto black dude from Compton or a white hillbilly from Youngstown?

Kelly Pavlik Sounds Off: Im Tired of Being a Puppet! - Boxing News
Pavlik is alleging that Top Rank was just trying to cash out on him and he'd rather not fight than let them do that. I don't necessarily agree with him, but he made a couple of points in that article. He was paid $270k to fight his last fight. This fight is for $50k. His fight against Rubio was for $1.5M, and his fight against Bute was allegedly for $1.1M. Is he getting the right amount for a fight against Bute when Bute sells out stadiums of 20k people? Arum says it was 60/40 split, but I don't really believe that if Bute's people offered Kessler $3M (if that's true). Kessler may be a bigger name, and I'm not sure he is, but not $2M bigger. It's a decent read. Your take?

Re: Pavlik pulls out of Aug 6th Fight!!! WTF. Anybody know?
Pavlik has every right to get the most money he can in the ring. However I do not think he will get that sort of money from any other opponent that soon. It is a business decision that only he should take, whether we agree with it or not. It is a calculated risk on his part which I hope he is right to turn down.
-
Pavlik might be dumb for not fighting this time round but he will get another chance and with more money. Sorry to bring race into it but hes a fomer middleweight american champion..and hes white! America are not gonna let go of this guy just yet!

i agree with this. remember Kessler turned down Bute's offer too and and decided to fight Steiglitz in Germany.

Fair enough if he pulled out of the bute fight because of not enough money. But why leave cunnigham
And the fans who have paid good earned money to see this fight and cancel it last minute? Its shows a lack of respect of sportsmanship. And how pulling out of a fight due to him not getting enough money against bute enhance his future prospects of earning future potential pay cheques? It doesn't make sense at all. He really must have some troubles or lack of common sense,
Because we all know pavlik would beat cunnigham. I really don't know where he goes from this.

Yep, because people have never used very poorly hidden racial euphemisms about black fighters' issues out of the ring when criticizing them :p
I have re-thought on this a bit though. Even though I think Pavlik is royally fucking up his career, this article did make me have a bit more time for him. At the end of the day it is HIS career & no one is in that ring but him.

Way different to do it at the last minute and force Showtime to cancel the whole TV card they had planned for Saturday. The US networks (SHO and HBO) will be very reluctant to deal with him in the future. He looked like crap in his last fight anyway -- he was going to get his ass beat by Bute. And I have no idea who he (or anyone on this thread supporting his decision) thinks he's going to fight for better money than he'd get against Bute. He seems to think he ought to be in line for the Froch/Ward winner, which is a joke (even more so now).

I didn't mention race in my post:confused:, but I was just ranting really. Of course it wouldn't matter. I was just saying that it happens to better people, nothing to cry about here.
