First sanctioned bareknuckle fight in the U.S. since 1889
It's taking place tonight, at a casino in Arizona. Cool article on ESPN if you want to read it. It's also online for free if you want to watch at ustream.tv

I am predictable huh?
This is VERY cool. It really is a different sport though. Very tough to throw hooks or uppercuts without breaking one's hands and the goal really has to be to bust the other man up with cuts.

This is pretty interesting. I hope nobody gets an orbital bone broken or anything serious.
Crazy bastards...;D

What are the Clint Eastwood movies with the orangutang and the bare knuckle fights?
Any which way you can and Any which way but loose?
Something like that.

Not sure if you read the article or not, but they will have 2 ref's. Also if the cut is really bad a cutman will be give 30 seconds to work the cut. If i'm home in time i might have to check it out.

Yeah I did. It's pretty far from the bare knuckle fights of the pre-Sullivan days. But it's a heck of an experiment isn't it?

Or better yet, Columbia Pictures' "Hard Times" with Charles Bronson, James Coburn, and Strother Martin, 1975.

Of course we did it here is Arizona, I saw the ads for this, but it just didn't register correctly. Boxing, MMA and bareknuckle all on the same card.

Arizona seems damn flexible on such laws.

I saw that. Absolutely ridicilious and disgraceful to call Bobby Gunn the new bare knuckle champion in the same vain as John L. Sullivan.
Gunn is no doubt a tough guy and a decent boxer, but he beat a guy who was 14-9 coming off 4 or 5 straight losses.
If these two had boxed no one would have cared, so instead they took off the gloves and suddenly its a circus.

Its not real bareknuckle though with those netted wraps so Sullivan remains that last true bareknuckle champ winning a 76 or 77 round fight depending on ones sources with Jake Kilrain. After that, Marquis of Queensberry kicked in.
