Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Really? He's a 5'3 super flyweight...fighting a top 5 p4p Nonito Donaire? This isn't even remotely fair. Donaire stands 5'7 and is too big for 118. As much as I've been a Mares fan (even after last weekend), I suspect either he or Agbecko would be a huge underdog going into the fight with Donaire, let alone Omar Narvaez. This fight doesn't do anything for me. We're talking about Donaire who looked somewhat superhuman against Montiel facing a guy who is 5'3.

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Nonito $hould really move up to 122. I'm getting tired seeing him slaughtering little guys.

The only fight I would be interested in at 118 is the Mares/Agbecko winner. I mean I could see a Moreno fight too I guess. I don't have a problem with him dominating bantamweight, but fighting a guy who is 5'3 coming up in weight just seems a bit wrong.

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
That sucks.. Nonito needs to fight the winner of Mares/Agebko ( Preferably Agbeko cuz he matches up better ) and move up to 122.. He doesn't need to fight Moreno unless he wants to be the undisputed champ.. Moreno is ordinary and he aint got a snowball's chance in hell..
Nonito said that arum promised him the winner of Nishioka/Marquez... <<< bad ass fight...

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Has Nonito ever fought a man who was less than 2 inches shorter than him?
-
Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
At the same time, I think nonito takes too much criticism for his size.. Being tall dont necessarily make one bigger..
As long as he can make weight, that's what matters.. That's how all boxers are.. They boil down from their natural weight division to gain advantage.. That goes for all boxers, not only nonito.
If Nonito fails to knock people out at 122-126, I bet people will say that he's a natural bantamweight..
I really dont give a shit who he's fighting.. The Flash is a fuckin badazz and the greatest Filipino fighter of all time, period..

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Mal choice, Jorge Arce would give Donaire a better challenge at a catch-weight and bring in more revenue...No, I'm serious, if Arce holds it down at super-bantam, puts down Simph's upstart and defends his gold well, he'll make Nonito look like he's ducking him ritenow. : o

lol.. Arce is going to give him a better challenge? Arce might get carried out on a stretcher if he faces Nonito and im not even joking..
Narvaez knows how to box at least and he doesn't block punches with his face.
If arce wants to live a healthy lifestyle after boxing, he must stay away from nonito at all costs..

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Arum says it will happen when Nonito makes his debue @SB, so we'll most probably see homes. http://www.cute-factor.com/images/sm...yociexp102.gif

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Arce has always been on Donaire's hit list. I know Donaire won't hesitate to fight him at ANY weightclass.

It's about time Narvaez stepped up in class... ;D

i think it will be a great fight..

i don't think there's time for nonito to wait for mares, agbeko or moreno coz it's getting more and more difficult for him to make 118lbs. mares and agbeko seem headed for a rematch and moreno isn't keen on facing nonito. anselmo is slated to face erik morel and i think it's going to be a tough fight for him which he could very well lose.
i think donaire should move up and test the waters at superbantam with a top 20 guy like molitor or oquendo to prepare him for a possible fight early next year with the winner of the marquez-nishioka fight. unifying the bantamweight is beginning to be out of reach for nonito at this point and time. if he can carry his speed and power going up in weight, he could probably do that in a higher weight division.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Rather than test the water at junior featherweight, Donaire's facing Narvaez as HBO has reluctantly approved the bout.
This is a solid step down in competition from Fernando Montiel and worse also because Narvaez is at such a huge size disadvantage. It leaves you already wondering what's next?
-
Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
definitely a disappointing match up for nonito. but maybe he needs an easier opponent this time out after being out of the ring for quite awhile. i do hope they can still find a replacement though, someone more his size.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Don't get me wrong, I think Donaire is an outstanding fighter! But I think this fight will be tougher than many of you are assuming. Sure Narvaez' resume is questionable but the guy can fight!
-
Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
the problem is donaire has been getting the reputation of fighting opponents not his size. narvaez though a tough undefeated dude is another fighter coming up in weight and the height difference is considerable. if he blows him away he wouldn't get much props from it. it's time he should fight someone his own size to show how really good he is. anyway, this is supposed to be his last fight at bantam. next year i expect better match ups for him.

If Donaire can make the weight, I don't blame him for cleaning out 118, and Narvaez from all accounts is good, but Narvaez is coming up in weight, I just don't see this as being competitive. Furthermore, I don't think this fight is as good as the Agbecko/Mares winner or moving up to fight Arce or the Nish/Marquez winner. I don't see the strategy here either. It's not like he'll get a lot out of fighting Narvaez. It seems like a waste.

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
donaire fought a piece of shite Montiel and has no future.

Galaxy,
How you been man? Miss the chats we used to have.
Yourself and Eagle always a good chat about the lower weight classes...
Anywhoo... I agree, despite the size advantage if Narvaez has a good/decent chin and can hold on. I think he's elusive enough to give Nonito a good challenge.

We can agree to disagree. Nonito will blow him out in under 5 rounds unless Narvaez runs.

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
ot, another fight i'd like to see is montiel vs. darchinyan at 122lbs. then maybe nonito might consider having a rematch with the winner.

Narvaez has never been down! He has great technique & although his opponents have not been elite he's fought tough guys like Asloum, Lazarte, Tamara, Whitfield & Seda. The guy has a world of experience!

no doubt narvaez is good. nonito is just in another level. more skillful and much bigger. there's no point to this fight except to show how much better donaire is than the smaller guys.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't mean to discredit Narvaez. It's just Donaire is bigger and better.

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
Screw 122. I think Nonito already fought in that weight class once in his early career. I wanna see him test the waters @ 126. I'd like to see him against B-level fighter like Jorge Solis first before facing the top dogs in that division.

I hear you. He has a chance to be a 5 division champion or something though. I'd favor him over the best at 118 easily. But, how about Rigadeaux at 122? Now that's a scrap I'd like to see. How about Mares, Arce and then Rigodeaux?

Re: Nonito Donaire's next opponent, Omar Narvaez, is a poor, poor choice.
all those foos mentioned would get beat down by Nonito. He's the best Filipino to ever lace em up.. this dude is unreal.. he's on that Marquez level except more athletically gifted.. Too bad he wasn't as big as Floyd and PAcquiao... IF he was a little bigger, he'd made Pacquiao look like an amatuer and a fight with FLoyd would be 50-50....
HE's that great..

You may be right about that. The difference between Donaire and Pacquiao is that Pac took formidable challenges on his way to stardom. Nonito somehow allowed himself to stagnate. The less he fights, the less experience he gets.
We would not have known Manny's full potential if he took less challenging fights after the loss to Morales. Nonito, on the other hand, could have been at a higher level now if he followed up his win against Darchinyan with equally or more risky fights.

I know what you mean, I would have preferred Mares or Moreno. But the title of the thread "POOR, POOR ChOICE" is a little rough, I mean it could have been worse... Tunacao, Tomas Rojas etc

There are just better fights out there and I was bitter, but maybe the thread title was a little harsh. Donaire COULD be great so I don't really see the point of taking fights that won't really challenge him.
