Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
An afternoon card here in North America, it might be worth watching, let's hope Chagaev kicks Povetkin's ass and Teddy has a nervous breakdown. Helenius vs. Liakhovich should be interesting, we get to see if Helenius is the real deal. :action:
August 27
At Erfurt, Germany (Epix): Alexander Povetkin vs. Ruslan Chagaev, 12 rounds, for vacant WBA "regular" heavyweight title; Robert Helenius vs. Sergei Liakhovich, 12 rounds, heavyweights; Artur Hein vs. Tony Averlant, 12 rounds, light heayweights.
-
Not interested in heavyweight division much right now but I am curious about Helenius. I actually hope that Atlas has done some things with Povetkin because it would make a good story. If he dominates Chagaev it would stir up some interest in the heavyweight division and a meeting between him and one of the Klits IMO

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
European fans will have it for free in ARD. Good, competitive heavyweight fights.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
Erics44 is pretty hype about these heavyweight fights. I see Chagaev v. Povetkin as a good stepping stone fight for the winner. Helenius is a bit overrated, but I see him getting by Liakhovitch

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
Hoping Helenius wins have him in a bet :box3:
-
Povetkin and Helenius should win. Povetkin has a chance to look spectacular if he fights correctly as Ruslan has slowed down and was never a huge puncher. Helenius should have little trouble with Liakhovich as Sergei never had much power either, but he's a game fighter that's for certain!
Povetkin by UD
Helenius by TKO 6

Should be some entertaining fights saturday, if we can get Epix or another stream here in the States, and it's fights that most Saddoboxing members can watch at a decent hour.

I am not sure why people think Helenius is overrated. He has had only 15 fights. I'd say he is a good prospect at this point but that's about it.

You are correct. I didn't mean to be too negative on him. I see him as a decent big guy and that's about it, but I'm wrong to say he is overrated at this stage.

Hey that's ok. I have seen similar comments at another site. Let's see what he does in the next year or so. I hope they keep him busy and hungry and progress him at a good steady pace.

Truthfully, for the amount of publicity he gets, I would say Seth Mitchell is being as overrated as Helenius and Helenius has been in tougher than Mitchell.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
Povetkin/ Chagaev is a good match-up & the winner puts himself in a good position for bigger fights.
Helenius should get by Liakhovich

Povetkin-Chagaev just got a lot closer in my opinion. Teddy Atlas dished out the dirt on the short camp he had Povetkin in. Apparently the same shit is still going down, Povetkin's managers are doing one thing when Teddy wants to do something else. Teddy wanted to start camp in the US, Povetkin never came over, Teddy wanted Povetkin sparring and doing ring work, and he hadn't, and Atlas damn near quit (again....such a Drama Queen) but Povetkin's dedication to him as a trainer kept him in. Teddy has said Povetkin isn't in really good boxing shape so maybe this closes the gap because Chagaev will be around til the bell rings to end the fight, he's NOT getting KO'd that's for sure.

El Kabong, I've read commentary elsewhere where the author looked at this fight as a fight between a good athlete/raw boxer in Povetkin and a better technical boxer/not-as-good athlete in Chagaev. The same author picked Povetkin because of his natural abilities and because Chagaev is aging (struggled with Travis Walker). How do you feel about this?

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
the thing is, these are 2 of the top HW fights out there and there is little chance of a KO
the best chance is helenius to KO Liakhovich
but i doubt tit

I see Povetkin taking a UD. He's more fresh, he's got good handspeed, decent pop (enough to keep Ruslan honest). Ruslan likes to work his way in and since his achilles injury he's less effective. Ruslan is a plodder, but he's tough and if he lands flush he could win by KO as I still have doubts about Povetkin's chin. It should be a fun fight to watch.
As for the other fight, Helenius SHOULD blast out Liakhovich mid to late, but Sergei has a heart and a decent chin. I just don't know if he has the fire or the stamina to keep up with Robert. Helenius is getting more coverage now, I wouldn't say he's overrated but I also don't think he's ready to challenge for the titles yet. I hope Helenius is the real deal so once Wlad stops him he gets some credit.

I wish I could say I was excited for this....but I'm not.
But, its boxing so I'll watch it.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
What time does the card start?
-
Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
Some of the undercard results have popped up on fightnews already, so it can't be that long until the main events start showing up. Germany usually does start the big fight around 10pm their time I think.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
Anyone have a link? I already used my free epix opportunity.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich - Saturday on Epix
Helinius is still a baby at heavyweight , he is a good prospect , but still has loads to learn , talk of fights with the Klit brothers is way way to premature, he has not yet been in a real tough show your balls fight , but i like what i have seen so far , good luck to the guy . Does anyone know if these fights are on UK tv , thanks .

I hope Chagaev knocks Povetkin out.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
Neither guy would be a threat to David Haye, let alone Wladimir Klitschko.
-
Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
How the fuck do you get a score of 117-113?
-
Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
10-10 rounds? lol wierd i know. 117-111 is what I had . Still don't think Povetkin is anything special.
-
Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix

The fact that two judges both scored it 117-113 makes me think there was a bit of home-cooking going on. Maybe they were scoring round even when it looked like Povetkin might not win the fight. I dunno.
And Holyfield can fuck right off, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Povetkin fight him next.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
yeah, im glad there was no controversy in this one since the right guy won. And its funny how they made this a championship fight . Wlad is the WBA super champion and Povetkin is just a regular champion. In all honesty , I dont consider Povetkin a champ at all.
-
Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
Helenius is looking sharp out there.
update- well, i think i said it too early. His jab isn't too good but he does have a strong right hand. needs to work on his D . This could be a good fight

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
yeah Povetkin vs Chagaev was an average fight to watch. This one has been good so far. More competitive than exxpected
-
Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
I've never minded listening to Lennox Lewis, I think HBO fucked up letting him go.
Not much in round 1, Helenius is a big mo-fo.

Re: Povetkin vs. Chagaev - Helenius vs. Liakhovich fight thread on Epix
