Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Who are these guys?? for me it's......
Andre Ward- Dirty and VERY boring in my eyes.. Obviously he has some skills but people overrate this dude like crazy.. He's a good fighter but far from special.. It's a longshot but I hope Froch punches a hole in his face.. I can't stand him..
Pacquiao- ugly style.. Call me crazy but he never float my boat.
Cotto- pampered and that Judah win is still rubbish.. aimed for the balls whenever shit got rough..
Paul Williams- I remember many people calling him the next tommy hearns but i never saw the appeal.. He always seemed like a knockout waiting to happen.
Amir Khan
Gamboa- This dude may be riding high right now against so-so competition but as soon as he faces a boxer-puncher with counter punching ability, he's going down face first. Like Paul Williams, he's about to get it... ( not from Deleon )... He's so fundamentally flawed that it's scary.. I dont care how talented he is.. He has a horrible habit of moving straight back with his hands down/chin exposed and it's only a matter of time.. Only reason why he was able to get away with foolish mistakes was because of he was spoon fed with no-hope opponents..
And the number one guy on my all-time dislike list... drum roll please.. de geu de geu de geu de geu
Stinky Wright- He could be fighting the 50ft giant woman with her titties all hanging out and I still wouldnt watch that bullshit.. All those years when he used to fight on the Roy Jones undercards.. mann i couldnt stand his boring ass.
What about you guys?

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
For me it's Arthur Abraham. Everyone seems to like him, thinks he's a great guy. I can't stand him. He was outclassed from the begining in the S6, i didn't understand why people were so high on this guy. That cover up and hope to land a big shot late style just doesn't cut it with the top tier guys in the division. I can't stand to watch that guy fight or even watch him talk.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I also never seemed to like Paul Williams much
others:
Froch
Wonjongkam
Toney
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Glenn Johnson, I know he is the road warrior and he loses points decisions but you think he would have figured he needs to knock out his opponent to win.
Bute, just do not get his popularity and if he was in the super 6 he would have lost by now.

The majority loves Pac cuz he's a very exciting fighter. He takes risks. He's not boring to watch.

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I'm not a Bernard Hopkins fan, and I thought Roy Jones was overrated.

Yea.. Im the minority.. I like boxer-punchers with a high level intelligence and Pac doesn't fit that mold..
He's boring..

I disliked Tito because he beat my favourite fighters like Oba Carr and Yori Campus but ended up liking him. Which is a bit like Pac Man, after the Cotto victory, I have supported him ever since. If you can't beat em...:)
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I liked Carr and Campas too, but main reasons I disliked Tito were his bullshit points win over Oscar after getting outboxed and outshined all night, well that wasnt HIS fault, but I always saw him as shaky on the legs, bad balance, 1-dimensinal, and LOVED it when Winky made him look the true fool he is. I mean even Mayorga was landing good shots on him.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Tito beating Vargas was another fight I wanted Tito to lose, it was a classic fight which showed the heart of both fighters. Cannot hate Tito for great performances and brutal power.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Well I never liked Joe Calzaghe simply because I hated his slapping style. Also his biggest wins were against a 43 year old Hopkins, who many argue deserved the decision, and a shot RJJ.
I never liked Tito Trinidad neither and I love watching the Hopkins, Wright and Jones fights.

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
De La Hoya
Got tired of people worshipping the ground he walked on. Found him to be a fake, enamoured of his own image, shamelessly looking for smaller fighters to beat up on to "build his legacy", even more shamelessly promoted by the major networks who were desperate to find the next all-American boxing icon (and he happened to have cross-cultural appeal, so much the better).
Eventually, the fakeness came through, and his strategy backfired. He got his ass whupped by the smaller Pacquaio, quit on his stool, and whimpered into the sunset.
Oh well...
;)

Hoya was old and drained against Pacman. He was nothing more than a walking Zombie so that loss doesn't count.
I loved it when he schooled the shit out of Tito though, making him look so foolish.. That's my favorite Hoya moment.. ;D

"That loss doesn't count"? My, you sound like a little kid, taking his ball back 'cause he can't play. And "schooled the shit out of Tito"? Sorry my frustrated little friend. Three Las Vegas (Mexican backyard) judges didn't agree with you.
Something must've moved Fernando Vargas to famously say before his fight with Tito: "THIS Mexican... won't run."

Facts are facts.. Hoya was old and drained and any objective boxing fan would agree...
lmfao.. You must put alot of stock into these incompetent boxing judges... IF you truly believe that Tito won, then you dont know shit about boxing.. Learn how to score a fight, squirt..

Have to agree... Theres being a fan and all.. But De La hoya very very clearly beat Trinidad.

The fight could've gone either way... they chose to pick Tito. DLH himself admits to giving the fight away by running like a scared rabbit the last 3-4 rounds. Had the fight been in PR, I'd have less of an argument. But the fight was in the Golden Boy's backyard. So tell me genius... how does an undefeated "icon" get a fight taken away from him in his own backyard, on national television, with his fawning TV commentators looking on?

Yeah... gotta admit we don't have as many quality fighters as up in YOUR neck of the woods. I mean, you're in MASS, right? Otherwise known as the "Cradle of World Championship Fighters"?

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I will get shot down for this: Lennox Lewis was just one big lumbering oaf! Everyone loves him on here, i don't! He got flattened a couple of times, definitely lost the 2nd Holyfield fight, never fought Bowe and yet is rated so highly on here. Ali and Holmes would've out boxed him easily, probably stopped him. Foreman would've have blasted him into the 7th row and prime Frazier and Tyson leave him in the Hasim Rahman position within 5 rounds.
I know i am in the minority on this as the Lewis nuthuggers out there will no doubt give me grief for expressing my opinion on Lennox Lewis, i have seen three toed sloths move faster than Lewis at the zoo!

Hahaha funny way of putting it ;D and you didnt even use the word lummox.
He looked like he carried his own weight or bones a bit hard didnt he.
Savings grace in a stiff jab and moved around behind it well though and knew exactly when to come from behind it and get busy when it counted you have give him some credit.;D

Yeah, history is doing a pretty good job of idolising Lewis retrospectively. he didnt get much credit overseas from the Americans and the Brits never really took to him either. He was not a 'natural' fighter who loved the combat and liked to make people look foolish or to hurt them but he was probably one of the finest 'athletes' that has ever walked into the ring. Wlad is as well - it used to be rare that you'd see guys 6'5" or bigger who were graceful and had good hand/eye coordination, but they are getting to be the norm now. I thought Lewis was a phenomenal athlete, who knew how to use his athleticism very well (and we criticise the Klits for that now), but he was a 'made' fighter rather than a natural. I don't think he was as bad as you do, but I donlt think he was as good as some people think either.

I like Gamboa and Cotto, and Pacqauio, but I agree with you on the rest. Andre Ward is a very dirty fighter and fights much too safety first for his youth and talent.
Winky Wright was always a boring spoiler and pissed me off he beat the good fighters that he did beat like Mosley and Ike Quartey.
Amir Khan is a golden boy cocky little bitch a bit like Oscar used to be, but very talented.
I'd also like to add the Klitschkos to your list as I hate them and their cowardly safety first style, yet everyone on the forum pretty much is in love with them now and seems to rank Vitali on the same level as a prime Lennox Lewis
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I think Lewis is slightly overrated as well, I'd consider him just a hair better than Vitali in all honesty, and don't really enjoy watching either of them fight. He certainly never beat anyone that Vitali couldn't have in their same form imo.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Winky Wright definetly wasn't for everyone, but I wouldn't exactly call him a spoiler seeing as he really was a pressure fighter despite his lack of power.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I used to dislike Pavlik a lot, for some reason I really gunned for Miranda and Taylor when they fought him. Thought Jermain actually deserved the nod in their rematch but I imagine I'm really in the minority there. Hopkins beating him kind of curbed my anymosity I guess. Brandon Rios is a guy I really want to see get KTFO sometime soon, although I've come to respect it won't be an easy task. Dude sounds/acts like a freaking mongoloid though, must be slightly retarded at least imo.
-
Kelly Pavlik - he's one sided and has a bad attitude. He was HANDED stardom and he pissed it away.
Bernard Hopkins - Talented, but with all the racism and ugly fighting I really dislike him.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Great fighter, but such an asshole...he could have been celebrated like Roy Jones Jr, but he chose "the dark side"
Shane Mosley - I just never really liked the guy. I didn't like that he was gifted the rematch vs Oscar, I didn't like that he never fought Trinidad, I didn't like that he waited so long to fight Vargas, but he did beat Margarito like a drum and that's good.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Floyd Mayweather - I hate the racial stuff. It just irks me for some reason although I know it has been a part of boxing for a long time.
Bernard Hopkins - same.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Amir Khan for me I just don't care for the guy and cant wait til he gets knocked out again.
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I'll get more hate than anyone on this thread: Erik Morales.
MAB was my favorite fighter when those two were in their primes, and Morales was just such an ungracious dick throughout that rivalry, taking everything so personally. Watching him get knocked around the ring and give up in PacIII was a great moment.
Also agree on Lennox Lewis. The Manny Steward one-two-and-grab prototype. Even he looked bored with his own fights in the ring.
Ricky Hatton as well -- the most overrated person on Saddo for a long time. I remember suggesting that Pac could move up and beat him back when Pac was fighting at LW and people telling me I was an idiot. Such an ugly "style" too.
-

I am the opposite, I liked MAB but when he sucker punched EM, I hated him for it.

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
Barrera is another one.. He's a great fighter but i always never a fan of him because of his dirty ways.. Dude sucker punched Mikenney, suckers punched morales and ran off like a punk, and i remember him getting dirty against pacman when things weren't going his way. Headbutting and punching after the bell. It was pathetic.
Barrera is dirtier than hopkins yet he always got a pass because he's Barrera..

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
-Amhir Khan-
Don’t like how he talks about himself as if he was the greatest thing out there. Sure, he has shown some improvement. Has some speed, decent power, good legs, etc. His chin is still questionable. TV commentators praise him as the greatest thing out there.
-Manny Pacquiao-
I was ok with him until I heard his questionable contradicting excuses to not take a random blood test (afraid of needles, blood makes him nervous, cannot train properly for weeks after a blood test, a nurse can hurt him if she doesn’t do it properly, etc.). After that, I started to dislike him. Can’t ignore that he has speed, stamina, etc. but then again, I am not even sure if he has those qualities naturally or because of the things his trainer Ariza may put in his veins. Then you have all these tv commentators praising him as well as all the casual fans but nobody questioning all the reasons he has come up with to not take random blood tests.
-Lennox Lewis-
I never thought he was the greatest thing out there. Had a questionable jaw/chin. If he got connected he would get all exhausted and sloppy. I just never thought he was a dominating force in the division as Mike Tyson was for many years or other heavyweights from the mid 90s and before.
-Any Asian guy that refuses to fight outside his country-
They have to leave the arena in a stretcher to really give the decision to the visitor.

Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I used to dislike SRL. Great skills; probably a nice guy, but I wasnt into the amount of tickets he had hanging off himself back in the day. Strange because Ali did it all too, probably worse but that was Ali that was actually his persona, I could handle that much easier ,and loved the guy I suppose his was more jest like and right over the top.
So I have no idea why I felt that way .
I like him now though, either he is older and more mellow or I am.

I have always disliked SRL because I saw the fraud of a comeback against Hagler and the rip off against Hearns, the farce against Duran but loved Norris/Comacho beating him. However before the comeback, in his prime he was simply awesome, but still hate him. :)
-
Re: Fighters you dislike who everyone else seems to love
I could never get why person would hate SRL in his prime he beat Benitez, Hearns, and Duran not even sure we saw his prime because of his lay off. As for the Hagler fight shit was close and Leonard got the nod don't see what the big deal is with that. As for the Hearns fight he said him self thought he lost but he was pretty past it by then. He was 36 in the Norris fight and 41 in the Camcho fight so i don't really care about him losing those fights. I am guessing master you are a Hagler fan why you hate Leonard.

No more a Hearns fan, I thought the Hagler fight was a draw however. SRL was the golden boy, silver spoon in his mouth, whereas Hagler was blue collar who worked his butt off to get respect. I realised SRL was a truly great welterweight fighter before the comeback. The comeback was phony and all those titles winning against Lalonde was a joke.
