General Television Series Thread
Might as well have one all purpose thread for tv series too.
I've watched a few recently and have to say I generally love Anerican television.
First off, gutted that Andy Whitfield died, was not expecting that, RIP to a great Spartacus :(
Recently I've enjoyed a few shows. Falling Skies was really very silly but quite enjoyable. Teen Wolf was surprisingly good, and the girl Allison is stunning. Thoroughly recommend that show to people who like that kind of Twilighty guff.
The American Wilfred lost it's way and got a bit weird, but it did lead me to check out the originall Australian show, which was brilliant, my favourite comedy in years. It is so worth checking out, I've watched both series right through twice now, so much funnier than the American remake which I think is shit by comparison.
The latest series of True Blood was very good, really enjoyed that too.
Next up, along with Dexter and Walking Dead of course I'm really looking forward to Terra Nova which starts, I believe, this month.
The trailer looks promising, it's the most expensive tv show ever made apparently, and it has dinosaurs so it must be good.
Here's the trailer.

Re: General Television Series Thread
I got tired of Wilfred too. The long running bit about Wilfred fucking the teddy bear got really old quickly. Don't have time to check out the Australian version now but might at some point.

Re: General Television Series Thread
I only watch one programme and that is Dual Survival on the Discovery channel. I love those guys and they inspire me to make another jungle adventure next year at some point, but to take it a step further.

Re: General Television Series Thread
A programme I liked watching has recently finished, Beaver Falls, was on E4, good light hearted fun.

Any one watch Planet Dinosaur on BBC, good stuff, kids enjoyed it.

Re: General Television Series Thread
Just watched the American version of The Killing. Never realised there was gonna be a 2nd series. Bloody annoying. Thought it was excellent until the con ending. Not seen Danish original.

Re: General Television Series Thread
The only show I closely follow these days is "Bored to Death"....hilarious show I highly reccomend it

Those are extremely interesting facts. I like the fact that new and interesting facts appear to be emerging almost everyday. It is incredibly interesting to see how new and wondrous facts continually emerge from the deep well of facts.

Yep paleontologists have certainly made up some pretty awesome new dinosaurs since the Jurassic Park films have finished.

Re: General Television Series Thread
Terranova debuted over the weekend. Extremely high quality production, really did look and feel like a feature film. There's a whole lot of wholesome family value goodness, which I'd personally have ejected in favour of more monster scenes and gore but overall it was a pretty solid pilot I thought.
It's interesting that Spielberg's dinosaurs have evolved since Jurassic Park now that the evolutionary community is trying to step up the dinosaur = bird nonsense. So instead of velociraptors we now have feather coated, bird like Slashers but whatever, it was still entertaining, even if the deliberate indoctrination of millions of Americans is morally suspect in my eyes.
Serves them right, those who are stupid enough to be deceived I guess.
But anyway, solid start, B+.

Re: General Television Series Thread
Very promising new American ries called Point of Interest. It stars the creepy bad guy out of Lost and Jim Caviezal, and judging by the pilot is a very stylish and decent crime/spy/espionage thriller.
Loved the first episode, a bit formulaic but a couple of twists and looks like it will build well over the series.
Definitely one to watch.

It's called Person of Interest. ;)
And yeah, I'm really liking it. Only 2 episodes so far, but I'll definitely keep watching it. It's hard not to look and listen to Finch, and not think of him as Ben though. And I've been a fan of Jim Caviezels for a long time. He's yummy hot. :lickish:
I was a little disappointed with Terra Nova though. I'll give it a little more time, and see if it gets better, if not, I'll stop.
Happy to have Boardwalk Empire back.
Jonesing for True Blood though. Twelve episodes is just not enough. BTW, sorry Bilbo, it doesn't look like you'll ever see Jessica's tits.
There's a new series on Showtime starting on Sunday night called Homeland. It looks pretty good, and I'll be giving that a look.

Re: General Television Series Thread
I haven't caught any of the new shows.
I do like dual survival though. Except for the part where they remind us every five minutes that Cody doesn't have shoes on. We fucking know.
I'm a survival show junkie, the only one I don't like is man vs wild. Fucking awful. Survivorman was the all time great but I only watched one episode of that guy's next show, it was all about voodoo and I just didn't care. I even watch man woman wild which is pretty terrible. Like really terrible. The wife isn't bad though.

Hey Di, good to see you on here :)
I've pretty much given up on seeing any Jessica nips now. Stupid vampire prude.:p
Oh well, actually although I love True Blood I'm not missing it as there are a ton of good things to watch right now.
Terra Nova is a winner, it has dinosaurs, that's good enough for me, even if they are made up dinosaurs based on new evolutionary hypotheses of what they would like to find. But anyway, still dinosaurs.
Person of Interest it is indeed, you know how I love to be corrected...and it's a great show.
Dexter is back, as is Hung so that's cool.
Also Time magazine previewed the autumns biggest new shows. Homeland was voted their best new pilot so I will definitely be watching that.
The other recommendations were as follows, Ive downloaded them but not watched yet;
Ringer - A thriller with Sarah Michelle Geller who assumes the identity of her missing twin. Actually looking forward to this. First three episodes are already out.
UP All Night - Think that's the name. A comedy about a young couple with a baby starring Christina Applegate and Will Arnett.
Pan Am - A 1960's comedy drama about life amongst a group of air sterwadesses. Doesn't sound like my kind of thing, but Christina Ricci is in it, so I will give it a go.
We've also got Walking Dead 2 to come as well so some great stuff out there.
Really enjoyed the finale of Alphas as well. That was a fun little show.

Re: General Television Series Thread
Oh, and one more, American Horror Story.
looking forward to that too.
You will notice all of my favourite shows are American. Us Brits make shit television. Nature docs and the news is all we are good for..

Yes, man vs wild is just annoying these days. Totally ridiculous at times. Survivorman was the best, but I agree that his next show was boring. I hate it when white people try to get in with other cultures and practice dances that make them look ridiculous. Just sit back and let them do it, stop looking like an aging fricking hippy. He has gone down a notch in my estimation because of that. Boring programme.
That man and woman in the wild was kind of okay. I enjoyed that at times.

Have ypu watched any Idiot Abroad 2 yet Miles? I caught the first episode, that wa very funny. He went to visit a tribe who worship Prince Philip as a god and got to stay on a desert island with his own Man Friday.
They gifted him a pair of leaf pants and he was begging not to have to wear them. Funny stuff.

Thanks, and always good to talk with you as well.
It was funny when they showed Jessica and Jason having sex for the first time, and she was holding her hands over her breasts, I started laughing, because all I could think about was you yelling at the tv telling her to move her hands. ;D
I watched the first episode of Homeland, and loved it, this looks like it's going to be a keeper for me.
Still not sold yet on Terra Nova after watching the 2nd episode. Will give it a little more time though.

Sky is cute, as is the main guy's oldest daughter.
He and his son are total cunts though, I hope they both get eaten and that science boff steals his wife.
It annoyed me that they made the science guy out to be something sinister because he headhunted an old girlfriend he still cared about to be part of the Terra Nova project. I mean they come from a dying world with no future. Surely any decent man would the do the same and try and get his old friend a place in this new world with a future.
But I get it. He is a bespectacled, weedy man, ergo a scheming loser, whereas hubby is buff of chest and bicep'd henced self evidently the better man.
Nonetheless I will continue to hope in vain that a carnosaur gets him.

I've only watched the first episode so far but it's very funny. It's his bucket list, well more accurately, the average person's bucket list. They make him do all the things that other people want to do before they die. Of course, he hates it.
Great start, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pilkington is an exceptional human being. Innate comic gifts and all inherently within. I have downloaded the first 2 episodes and watched 20 minutes of the 1st. Loving it so far.

Re: General Television Series Thread
Just watched the first episode of Anerican Horror Story. Not bad, more weird than scary though. Not sure how they will sustain a creepy show over an entire series. Disappointing beginning but could get better. The maid is hot, at least as the husband sees her..

Re: General Television Series Thread
Good call with Homeland Diane. Watched the first two episodes, its easily the most intelligent and gripping show on right now. The latest Terra Nova episode was Fucking diabolical though! It was such syrupy, sickly sweet sentimental slush, and everything neatly wrapped up and solved, no harm done, all within the 40 minute timeslot like an episode of Scooby Doo. The Target audience seems to be 8 year old girls. A travesty of a show.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is my all time favourite i think. Pretty, pretty, pretty gooooood.

damn can't wait for this!
I have too much to watch right now. Going to have to ditch a couple shows I think.
Currently weekly watches are.
Dexter
Terra Nova
Homeland
Ringer
Pan Am
Person of Interest
An American Horror Story
Walking Dead
Up All Night
Suburgatory
An Idiot Abroad
Celebrity Juice
Ultimate Fighter S16
Normally the only tv I watch is HBO and Showtime boxing on a weekend.
Going to have to trim this list down, or save up some for later..

Re: General Television Series Thread
I'm almost ready to give up on Terra Nova, it's just not doing it for me yet.
Still really loving Homeland, Person of Interest, and American Horror Story.
Bilbo did you notice some True Blooders on American Horror Story? The toasted marshmallow is played by Russell the Mississippi King Vamp, and the boring patient who slit her wrists was Tara's mother.
-
Re: General Television Series Thread
Terra Nova is shit imo, I've watched the last couple episodes and don't see how its supposed to be anything more than visually impressive. The Ultimate fighter is just ridiculously terrible, I've been enjoying MMA a bit lately but aside from the actual fights it makes me want to die. Walking Dead and Dexter are both fairly entertaining from what I've seen, but nothing on TV these days really makes me want to get cable again.

I have a lot of things to catch up on when I get more time. Walking Dead, Psych, The League, Community. Haven't seen a single episode of any of them this year.

Re: General Television Series Thread
Watched a police car documentary working on motorways and they were catching some idiotic truck drivers who were on the phone, eating whilst driving, drunk, no having a licence and not sleeping enough. These truck drivers were an accident waiting to happen and with driving 17 tonne vehicles they were very dangerous and potential killers. The fines and bans that these drivers got were also weak and would not be a deterrent either which makes it a sadder state of affairs.
