James Toney really looks in shape.
He has clearly lost the weight and it is really quite astonishing. His speech also sounds somewhat improved too. Toney should never go north of 215 pounds ever again. I am hopeful that he might be ready to put on a show against Lebedev and have a final shot at getting himself in the mix.

Come on you JFAT alliance people, Toney has lost the weight. He is going to look better than in years. JFAT alliance for life!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Can't really tell if he looks in any better shape than the other week when the pic of him in a vest came out to be honest. Doesn't change the fact that if he can get down to 200lbs then I fully expect him to be something of a force again and I think he can become champ at CW.
He will beat Lebedev.

Toney in Russia and saying calm rational things.

I think he looks really svelte, we haven't seem him like this in years. He has the hunger back and he is working hard for a reason. He knows it's his final big swing. Go James!

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Honestly, it's 10 years too late. He's 43 now and he didn,t take care of his body as much as a Hopkins. It's a pity because the guy had a phenomenal raw talent, perhaps one of the mos gifted of his generation and though he didn't train well for a good par of his career, he did accomplish a lot being a slacker, which speaks volume. I am happy to see him back in shape and almost talking intelligently but I am not excited, it's quite good for the improvement but way too late.

I hope he does well. The CW division is very poor at the minute IMO. There are too many people like Chambers and Toney who have been fighting at HW when really they should have been down at 200. I know the big news is in the HW's but they are not naturally big enough IMO.
Marco Huck should not be a champion but he is and thoroughly deserves it. If Toney beats beats Lebedev which I think he will then he can take the division and put a bit of mainstream popularity into it. This move is good for Toney and Boxing. I would not normally support a fighter well into his 40's carrying on but with the state of the division and the fact that I probably regard Toney vs Tarver about the best fight that can be made at CW I am hoping for a big Toney win.

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
he looks in shape like never before?? hahahaha Ive heard that 1 before.
thats what Cassius Clay said before he went in against the Easton Assassin.

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Floyd Sr is in pretty good shape too. And he shouldn't be fighting either

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Kinda like seeing your formely smoking College girlfriend squeeze back into her jeans years later. You still know what's there -now- once they come off.

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Anyone can achieve a healthy body mass index regardless of what they have left in the tank. Roberto Duran looks a lot better than he did a few years ago, maybe he should make another run at the belt. My dad is 60 and lost 50 lbs over the summer, must be time to start playing competitive tennis again. I loved watching Toney fight, but his decline in recent years hasn't been down to his being a fatass, he was kicking ass for a while in close to the same condition. Now I HOPE he does have something left, I just think that all signs besides sudden weight would suggest it isn't much. Not to mention that the weight loss in itself could be the nail in the coffin. For an old worn fighter like Toney to rapidly change his body composition in one go could cost him dearly against someone as limited as Ledbedev. His pituitary gland is fucked, the guy's body produces no testosterone or growth hormones. He may find out the hard way that the muscle he retains won't be the type he needs. I know he's immensly skilled and Ledbedev isn't whatsoever, but I can't help thinking of Chris Byrd's effort to drop weight a couple years back. And that's someone who never shown major signs of losing it before he shed the weight.

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
I hope he looks awesome in the ring! If he can scored a solid, impressive victory over Lebedev then it'll be interesting to watch him make a lsat run. Tarver, Cunningham & Huck would ask make for good fights
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
I don't think he has it in him to win a fight.
The desire and will is no longer there I think you get to a certain age where you just dont have it.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Looking in shape and being in shape are two different things.
Ali looked good before he stepped into the ring with Larry Holmes too.
Treating one's body the way Tony has and then trying to get it back in one's forties is very different than what BHOP has done.
Of course given the dismal state of the cruisers and heavies? Who the hell knows?

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
no way its happening. REMEMBER HOW GOOD GATTI LOOKED in his fight before Mayweather. Then he got creamed and we saw when tested how old and battle-worn and slow he really was.

But Toney isn't fighting Mayweather and neither is Lebedev truly comparable to Holmes. An in shape Toney might well surprise you all. He has always been skilled unlike someone like Gatti who was always somewhat crude and would revert to type.

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
I think it's great to hear Toney being calm, lucid and clear. There has been far too much being fat and just ranting recently, but it seems he is giving the mouth a rest and actually just keeping quiet and getting ready and to me looks like he is no more than a few pounds above the weight already. I am genuinely excited to see what the great man does in Russia. If Jones can be as shot as that and cause Lebedev a few problems, then Toney is going to befuddle him. Toney is past his best, but nobody in this division should really be an issue for an old, but in shape James Toney. Too slick, too relaxed, too smart. He should box rings around these guys. Let's not forget that a fat Toney has been hanging with guys MUCH bigger than himself. It just shows you how good he is that he could even hang around at HW. Jones or Hopkins could never dream of doing such a thing without getting sparked out after a fight or two.

Calm and rational things eh? Good times ;D

Maybe, maybe not. Let's just see. Toney will either pass and amaze or else fall and burn. However, he is in shape and that is undeniable and he is speaking clear English and that is better than most english people.

What are the odds in this fight? With Tony in good shape, he could be a good bet.
How long has Tony been in good shape? I mean has he been around 200 for a while? It's tough for older fighters to move around too much in weight unless they are in shape 24/7 like Martinez or Bhop.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
James Toney will always be a talented fighter, yesterday just watched the middleweight version drop a fighter with a body shot. However how has he managed to drop so much weight, it can’t just be the training. I think it will weaken him. I hope he wins but I think this effort is too little and too late.

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Toney is a bad bad man.. He's the epitome of a throwback fighter.. a natural born fighter..
Toney > Hopkins all day..

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Take it with a grain of salt but Toney and camp should be wise out there, dont eat the food and don't drink the water. The whole atmosphere just strikes me like something out of Goodfellas ;D

Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Dennis Lebedev : D new Danny Green , or D new Nagy Aguilera , who is it going 2b ?
If Lebedev wins , he calls out Tarver . If Toney wins , he calls out Tarver . And then Hopkins whom will keep staying safe @ 175
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Having rechecked Lebedev's record , it sure is better than Aguilera's and Green's prior to their most recent losses .
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Around here, lebedev is regarded as a bum. This guy is supposed to beat toney? Lmfao
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
Lebedev is not a bum he is a solid opponent, but not on Toney's level. Lebedev is a B level fighter, but Toney is an unknown quantity right now. He was A list, but at 43 and with inactivity and weight loss, we just don't know for sure. I am hopeful though.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
never knew miles was such the die-hard toney fan.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
James has talked the talk and walked the walk most of his career, but after he ballooned up to Heavyweight, he's been mostly talk. My guess is Lebedev will win a decision, but "Gramps" Toney will be running his mouth about how he got robbed after the fight.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
James Toney is a fat, punch-drunk fuck who hasn't been relevant for half a decade.
He was fucking spectacular in his day though.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
james toney is a raggamuffin boy.
-
Re: James Toney really looks in shape.
It's last chance saloon time. If Toney can't beat Lebedev then it is clearly over.
He hasn't been relevant for a while now and it is the first time he is fighting a top level opponent in a long time. This fight will answer everything about Toney.
My only worry is the body clock. Toney isn't a young man anymore and the stamina and output has been looking a tad worrying in recent fights. The skills and evasiveness have always been there.
I am hopeful. Bring it Toney.
