I dunno for his entire career but for the past 5-6 years, he's been the most terrible in my opinion.
Cortez would appear the be the leader in this race, but im always a lil hesitant to critize these ref's or judges. They have an extremly hard job and sitting at home watching a fight on tv while drinking and blabbering on with friends is a whole lot different than actually being there. They don't have the advantage of camera angles, commentators etc, to help with the split second decisions they make. Some of these decisions and actions by the ref's and judges do appear unexcusable but once again easy to say from your chair at home. Hell in this past fight if the roles were reversed and ortiz ko'ed floyd after a headbutt. Cortez would be a hero right now....tough gig is all im sayin, i couldn't do it so i won't be so quick to slam cortez for his bonehead moves
Joe Walcott's performance in Ali-Liston II represents the low point as near as I can figure.
Alfredo Garcia Perez is definitively the worst ref I have ever seen … and let see who can beat me on that:

And I would agree with this view if it didn't seem like cortez made bonehead moves in every other fight he refs...and obviously it can be done properly because you don't ever hear someone badmouth smogger.Quote:

the worst ref i have seen still has to be the guy who ref'd Robin Reid Vs Sven Ottke.... and he was shit in chitty chitty bang bang as well :-X
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Laurence Cole yet. The guy's truly horrible as a ref.

I agree and with the ring death and him still to scared to stop a fight for the sake of the fighter above the crowd; Makes him the worse and the NY and NJ commission allowing it to continue after those accidents when better proven refs were available to them in the area who were putting their hands up for work, proves them to be a closed shop with self interests above that of the fighters.Quote:
