Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
I know alot of people hate Mayweather and Haye, but I think there may have been some others even more hated in boxing history. I will say I think Prince Nasim and James Toney were 2 fighters who were very hated. And John Ruiz would be a distant 3rd place followed by Zab Judah.

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Margarito
Mayorga
Johnny Nelson

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Luis Resto
Mike Tyson
Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Mike Tyson in modern times, when he was jailed for rape, although I believe him when he said his wife lied about the rape - now shes one of the most hated women in AMerica, she doesnt even have a proper wiki page, shes so scared of getting mobbed, God she was so dumb. Mayweather is respected as well as hated big time, what a mix.
Sonny Liston, big time hated.
Over in the UK Fraudley Harrison was regularly booed.
Jack Johnson was hated by the a lot of 'white' America (not that i believe in distinguishing by colour, seeing as there are a hundred bloody shades we come in), although those were different times when Americans used to go round and lynch blacks regularly - pretty barbaric times far removed from what we are today. But as a percentage of the population I would say he had the most hate aimed at him.

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Mike Tyson did not rape his wife, he only hit her with his back hand. He raped the baeuty pagent contestant.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
I'd say it has to be Ali in his exile.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Of all time is a shit load of time...
I would say; Max Schmeling, Jack Johnson & Ali.
The hate that Zab, PBF & Tyson have/ahd is not even close to what the 1st ones I mentioned faced.

Great call on this one...
For all great things he did, this moment in his life was easily his darkest hours.

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
John Ruiz
NAZ
Hector Camacho
Oscar De La Hoya

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Mundine took the crown for a whole year after the 9/11 comments.
Max Schmeling was a good call the hatred of the Nazi regime was some weight for him.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Simply on a personal level, it has been James Toney and Audley Harrison. Simply the mention of the name makes me bristle, and I think both have been an embarrassment to the sport in their own 'special' way.

Jack Johnson easily heads the list, I've always been amazed that he wasn't strung-up by the KKK, or killed by a white supremist, et al.
Ali certainly had his share of hatred, but unlike Johnson, Ali was revered as much as he was hated, I never cared for him as a person, but damn he was fun to watch boxing.
Max Schmeling left for Germany after he lost to Louis in 1938, and although there was a lot of Anti-Nazi/German sentiment in America at the time, there was also quite a bit of pro-German/Nazi, sentiment. In 1938, the Nazi's were still a few years away from being rejected/hated in America and elsewhere in the world.
Contrary to popular belief, Schmeling was not nearly as hated as some in the media then and now would have you believe, and not all Americans were hoping that Louis would win the rematch. ( I hate revisionist history)

It just seems to me like there's so many sides to a story, that much of the time there's not just one way to look at things. The old saying that there's one right way to do things, simply isn't true, there's more than one way to skin a cat?
Are the white supremest fucktards always the bad guys and always wrong? I think not, that's just too fucking simple.
-
Jack Johnson by far...and he enjoyed it
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?

-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?

It's no coincidence though that during these times, certain nations were high on the theory of Eugenics.
It all just goes hand in hand.

You hit the nail on the head for me. Those three have always been on my list. I've let up a little on Zab, and he's seemed to mature over time, and has been involved in some wars. But Toney and Naseem.... can't stand them.
Larry Holmes has always been on the list for me also, if only because of his incessant whining and racist attitude.

gee, wonder why you left out JOHN RUIZ (just kidding)
Larry Holmes I always liked for some reason, but I know what you and everyone else means about his whining.

It's not the fighters that YOU hate the most... It's fighters hated severely by many over history.
Or do you just personally hate him so much that that it makes up for the tens of 1000s who hated Ali etc more? ;)
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Never witnessed Ali the fighter and only knew of him from his iconic era of being a living god. Couldn't quite understand that there ever was a hatred era till i was quite a bit older and was more read.
So from my point of view, in my boxing lifetime, I would have to say Hamed. Eubank to some extent I guess but I think a lot of people took him tongue in cheek. The fans loved him at end of his career. Hamed would maybe have got there too if he hadn't run with hos tail between his legs.
And now . Only been to one Khan fight but I saw quite a lot of hatred there for him - some of it pure evil and to the extreme. Although Hamed was hated I never saw that 'type' of hate with him.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Carnt understand Hamed being on the list
loved the guy, in a none gay way ;D
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
ive heard stories that Ali was hated in the first part of his career, more than any fighter ever before
that was a bit before my time tho, from my experience in Britain i would say Eubank by a long long distance
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
cassius was hated because he was a loudmouth bragadoccio at a time when blacks werent "supposed" to be so. plus he was just a loudmouth insulting jerk. good when Cooper and Frazier blasted his ass with left hooks.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
He also cut Cooper to ribbons and pushed Frazier to the brink.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Joe Bugner got a lots of hate after "beating" Henry Cooper. He was driven out of the country.

You hit the nail on the head with all three of my choices.
but i also couldnt stand Clay either.

Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Andrew Golota for me he just seemed like a dirty quitter to me. Larry Holmes is up there, he always seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and it showed. As of late David Haye and judging by the tweets and Facebook comments Floyd Mayweather.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
By far Chris Eubank, it was disturbing in pubs/clubs to see and hear so many guys seething 'Fucking Eubank, what a Wanker, WANKER' and no hints of smiles, only anger... lol.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
Me pesonally, I disliked Hatton, Hopkins, and John Ruiz.. I can't stand these types of fighters.. OH and andre Ward.
-
Re: Who was the most hated fighter of all-time?
I have never liked Moorer as a heavyweight, hate Haye now and Audley as I thought he was the next Lennox but I know that will be Tyson Fury. ;)
