Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez Saturday fight/chat thread
Good fights Saturday: :pimp2:
October 22
At New York (HBO): Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez, 12 rounds, for Donaire's WBC/WBO bantamweight titles.
and perhaps if they show it: Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia vs. Juan Carlos Martinez, 10 rounds, featherweights.
"El Huracán" Narvaez is an undefeated slugger from Argentina, so he might give Donaire a big test:
Omar Andres Narvaez - Boxer
Also Saturday from across the pond in Deutschland:
At Ludwigsburg, Germany: Marco Huck vs. Rogelio Omar Rossi, 12 rounds, for Huck's WBO cruiserweight title; Dominick Britsch vs. Billy Lyell, 12 rounds, middleweights.
Thoughts on these fights?

Donaire will KO Narvaez in dominant fashion somewhere in the first five-six rounds.
Huck is in a stay busy fight. He should dominate. Dominic Britsch is said to be a good German middleweight prospect. Same goes for him. He should take Billy Lyell out easily.
Also, there is Edwin Rodriquez v. Will Rosinksy at 168 on Friday on Showbox.

Donaire what a super fighter do i like this fighter YES.:appl:

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez on HBO Saturday
Nonito beats Narvaez via mid-rounds KO.. Narvaez is a good little fighter with a solid chin but the size disparity is too much here.. Only way he goes past 8 is if Nonito carries him but the champ is looking to make a statement so he's going to get it.
Nonito is the most skilled Filipino fighter ever..

That's a bit premature. Recently, I've seen a lot I like from Donaire, but the one time I saw him live - against Rafael Concepcion, I wasn't super impressed. It could mean he gets up for better opponents. However, I'm just not quite ready to annoint him the second coming. If he runs through the competition at 122 and moves to 126, it'll say a lot.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez on HBO Saturday
I'm going to be hoping for a Narvaez win, as he's from the Welsh-speaking area of Argentina, which practically makes him Welsh, therefore go on little Owen Norris, y'know, Dai's son.
Seriously though, I think he's got a big task ahead of him, and Donaire will have too much for him. As for Huck, KO middle rounds, and I actually fancy Lyell to upset Britsch, as he's been matched quite hard recently, and Britsch is the quintessential German 25-0, that is this is his first real test.

The fights in Germany will be on in the afternoon here in the States, I believe they'll be worth checking out, if I can only find a stream. :-X

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez on HBO Saturday
I think I'm the only one who thinks Narvaez is going to be tougher than expected, but that's cool. Donaire is an outstanding talent but as we all know... anything is possible!
-
Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez on HBO Saturday
I have an inexplicable dislike for Donaire, but he's a hell of a fighter.
-
Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez on HBO Saturday
Donaire is gonna be way too quick for Narvaez. Too much in every departemtn infact. He leans back to avoid shots all the time. That won't work against Donaire. He'll be looking up at the lights before he has even leaned half way back. Way too small an opponent and too slow IMO also. He looked like a midget fighting at 114. The guy is smaller than Sodorenko or what ever his name was, and he was a midget.
Donaire by KO when ever he decides to step up the gears and let the leather go. Really looking forward to seeing Donaire in action again though. Looking for him to make some huge fights next year...

If Narvaez is "way too small, and way too slow" then Donaire will demolish him in just a few rounds. Donaire has devastating punching power, and boxing skills to go along with it.

Agreed..... Honestly. I've watched four Narvaez fights now. I see no way in hell for him to survive 12 never mind beat Donaire. The joke thing about this is, Donaire moved up in weight, smashed Montiel into next week, is still getting bigger and better, and then fights a smaller guy again than his last three opponents guy that is coming up from 114. How do you find a smaller guy?? Just doesn't make sense. Not that I won't be watching of course. But it is a total mismatch IMO.
I don't actually see Donaire having to push himself to the wall until he gets to atleast 126 though and fights either Rigondeaux or Nishioka..
-
Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez on HBO Saturday
Nonito will blast this guy, could probably do it with his camera in his hand and take a pic before narvaez hits the ground. Sucks nonitio doesn't fight better guys.

I agree with what's in bold. This is somewhat of a joke. I guess they want one last fight at 118 before he moves up to 122. It's a dumb fight though because Donaire already beat the best at 118 in Montiel and the only other fights worth mentioning at 118 would be against Mares or Agbecko. Thus, this is sort of a waste. Narvaez has never lost though so that brings in an element of unknown. The problem is he's 5'3. I need to watch a little tape on him. I'll watch it because Donaire is fun to watch.
Nishioka allegedly wants a little time off before the Donaire fight so we should expect that in June with an Arce fight in the beginning of the year, but Arce is who he should be facing now because the outcome will be the same - another easy win for the Flash. Frankly, he needs to step up the competition sooner than later. I favor him over Nishioka, but it's a good test to gauge where he's at.
If you haven't already, go check out the KO of Hernan Tyson Marquez. That uppercut was deadly. I actually see this fight being a little like that one but Donaire has got better since Marquez so I bet he knocks Narvaez out earlier.

Omar Narvaez: Quiet Storm Finally Hits The Big Time - Boxing News
There's a good article on Omar Narvaez. It convinced me a little that he has a slightly better chance than I originally gave him.

I'm sure Omar will come to fight, but he'd better just hope that Donaire doesn't, because Donaire has every advantage in this fight, including size, power, and lightening quick reflexes.
cheers

100% slightly better than no chance at all. Where does this win rank against Nonito's other wins? Behind Montiel and Darchinyan but above the rest?

I really don't know, Montiel and Darchinyan were big challenges, even though Narvaez has a fine record in title fights, he doesn't appear to be much of a threat in this one. Donaire just seems to be on a different level, I hope i'm wrong and we see a competitive fight saturday, on paper at least, it looks to be a good matchup.

It won't be a competitive fight. Donaire will just surgically punish Narvaez.

There's dishing out a beating, and then there's the kind of surgical punishment that requires a scalpel and a saline drip! I'm not predicting that crushing a defeat for Donaire though, as Narvaez is tough and compact, and won't be easy to break down.

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez Saturday fight/chat thread
I really couldn't care less about tomorrow's fight. Donaire is the size of my thumb nail and the other guy is as the size of an atom. It just doesn't interest me in the slightest and so I won't even bother watching.

Fair enough. I just don't see the appeal in watching an elite fighter take on someone who is considerably smaller than he is.

I take it you've watched plenty of Klitschko fights? You may have regretted it afterwards, but still....

I usually have very little interest in Klitschko fights as well. I'll watch them, as I'll probably watch the Donaire fight if I'm home, but I certainly don't get excited about them.

I like watching the lighter weight boxers as well, I'm just not a huge fan of watching fights where the outcome is a foregone conclusion, regardless of whether or not there is a title on the line.

It's all good CFH, a lot of folks wonder why I don't usually watch Mayweather's fights, like I said, to each their own.
I'm not sure, but HBO might show the Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia vs. Juan Carlos Martinez undercard fight, so if you don't like the main event at least it's some boxing.
In any event, the fight/chat thread is up if anyone wants to discuss these fights while they're going on tonight. :alcoholic:

Re: Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez Saturday fight/chat thread
I agree its a foregone conclusion but so are most of Mannys fights. It will be good to see a great fighter performing in his prime because we know we are witnessing class. Richie Woodhall just said that Navarez has had 21 world title fights so he is no mug even if he is a smaller guy.
What are the odds Donaire knocks him out with a counter left hook? Most of his Ko's seem to be with the same punch and they are all proper devastating shots. His reflexes are lightning quick and he loves that shot. Im looking for another KO of the year candidate tonight.

I'm wit you GAME, Donaire is fun to watch, and who knows this might end up being a competitive fight, Narvaez is no chump.

I think Donaire wins this but Omar is world class and that alone merits some opportunity to win...
Will Omar take his rightful place next to Monzon in Argentine history?
Will Omar surpass Laciar?
We'll see...
