2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
2-year-old girl run over by car twice, 18 people passed by and ignored | ChinaHush
Really upsetting I won't paste the video here in case anyone doesn't want to see it but follow the link if you do.

Proclaiming peoples ignorance in one thread, to blatant racism in the next. You're a gem Brockton.
I didn't watch the video cause it'd just depress me as all videos of this sort do, some people are so fucked.

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
Explanations for the Bystander Effect
There are two major factors that contribute to the bystander effect. First, the presence of other people creates a diffusion of responsibility. Because there are other observers, individuals do not feel as much pressure to take action, since the responsibility to take action is thought to be shared among all of those present.
The second reason is the need to behave in correct and socially acceptable ways. When other observers fail to react, individuals often take this as a signal that a response is not needed or not appropriate. Other researchers have found that onlookers are less likely to intervene if the situation is ambiguous(2). In the case of Kitty Genovese, many of the 38 witnesses reported that they believed that they were witnessing a "lover's quarrel," and did not realize that the young woman was actually being murdered.

Didn't Jerry, George and Elaine go to jail for less?

its incomprehensible that people could see an innocent baby mortally injured and not rescue it from harms way.
Its called the douchebag effect. turn a blind eye, until it is your child or family member then you see how it feels..

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
We cant place all Asians in the same basket and call them nick names to be derogatory we have a large contingency of Filipinos post here and they are good people, they cant read thatand still feel welcome here Brockton.
On another note you are right, useless drivers and road laws in most of Asia suck and life just isnt held as high there.
Sumatra is worse you have adrenalin pouring out your nose just on a bus there.

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
Horrible story, but apparently not all that uncommon. You typically run over the body the second time to make sure that they are dead and thus avoid paying anything in damages. It is despicable behaviour.
Asian's are generally speaking horrible drivers and I speak from the experience of living in an Asian country and having been to Asian countries. Obviously poor drivers can and do come from anywhere, but the lack of effective instruction and enforcement leads to too many people developing piss poor driving skills. Japan wasn't too bad from what I recall, but anywhere beyond can be chaos.
And Piye, I am quite aware that this post might well be construed as racial, and to a degree it is, but really I am speaking about the systems in place that cause many Asian's to drive so poorly. Countries like China need to clamp down on out of control driving and the result will be safer roads for all and less dangerous Asian drivers.
One of the better things about the UK is the driving system. Generally speaking people are much more well behaved there.

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
That car had 18 justified opportunities for some misfortune but its a shame it took 1 innocent who never had a say or chance. I'm guessing twice, was intentional?!
Its group think and a herd mentality...and its cowardly. I saw a young kid get hit in Atlanta once...driver never knew what ripped him from his car after. Looked like some bad zombie flick!

Amen to that, Miles. and like I said, its because of a total lack of peripheral vision.

No worries let's move on, this is a horrific story I find it difficult to stomach I have a 18 month year old daughter and something like this would literally kill me. I also don't understand how something like this can be shown on the news?

I know it sounds very strange, but BBB does kind of have a point, though I couldn't say it resulted in this horrible death. There is something about spatial awareness, at least in Korea, that totally baffles me. You can observe people literally zig zagging up and down the footpaths. It is quite bizarre. You can hold a straight line and someone will see you coming and yet somehow bodily contact is still made. It is an unusual phenomenon. People are forever bumping into each other on uncrowded footpaths. I am exaggerating a little there, but it does seem to happen a little bit too much.
I drive and am quite careful, but there really are a lot of lunatics out there and at least as far as Korea is concerned traffic fatality rates are pretty appalling. I imagine China is at least as bad. Road safety awareness is something that really needs to be preached in many Asian countries.

Miles is quite right and truth trumps political correctness any day of the year including Leap Year. :)
Obviously piye and the others have not spent as much time in Korea as Miles or I have. How their stories of PC-ness would change! Experience trumps PC-ness any day as well.

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
that is one of the most awful things I've ever seen. Made me actually well up watching it. Really sad.
Reading the interviews with the guy after just makes things worse, the guy needs hanging.

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
Im not gonna watch the video cz i know that sort of thing would stay with me
Id say tho i have kids, 6, 4 and 2 and i dont reckon my 2 year old would understand what was happening if it happened to him
I reckon the others would get it but i reckon it would by extra scarey for him

I'm not going to watch the video either bu6 I can well belive it. As Missy pointed out it is a very well documented phenomenon and surprisngly instinctual. Those of you who are shocked and insist you wouldn't act like that, well, I guess those 18 didn't think they would either...
I actually witnessed something very similar many years ago when I had a summer job in a hotel along the Babbacombe downs in Torquay, a little hotel one road across from the cliff's.
My bosses daughter had recently had a baby that was just old enough to start walking, so I'm guessing maybe 18 months?
Anyway, she got out one day and we couldn't find her anywhere. So we all went out looking for her and I went across to the downs where there were literally dozens of people picnicing an walking about.
I asked people had they seen a little baby out walking alone and loads of people had and pointed in the directin of the cliff's, saying 'yeah she went down there somewhere!'.
I sprinted over there and found her on a little mud lane just above the sheer banks down to the beach a couple hundred feet below.
She could easily have fallen and died and you'd imagine that any sane adult seeing a baby marching towards a large drop would be somewhat concerned, but it seemed no. They happily saw her walking that way but went about sunning themselves.
Here's a picture of the down's to get an impression of how high up it is.

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
Diffusion of responsibility? There was no swarm of people shuffling by leaving everyone to fall to the same conclusion that someone else has done something about it. These were individuals passing by one after another.
The only thing that binds them is that they are all mental.
I can believe that witnesses to a murder thought they were witnessing a lovers tiff, I can see how that might happen. I cant think for one second though how a child laying smashed up in the road could possibly be construde as anything other than a really fucking bad situation. Perhaps they thought she couldnt get of to sleep in the street unless she was in a mangled heap?

Re: 2 year old child is ran over twice 18 people walk by before anyone helps.
Filipinos are horrible drivers. BUT this wont happen in the Philippines.
a baby getting hit maybe but the 1st pinoy on the scene would at least shout for help.
I've helped a dude being beaten up by 3 to 4 guys what more a baby lying in her own blood.

Yeah maybe if it was a male baby they would have thought more about saving it. :-\ One child policy and everyone wanting that male as an heir.

Very true. People could give a shit about girls down in Asia or the Middle East.
To be honest, I couldn't care less about what people do anymore. If I was there to be the first to walk by the child, though, things would have ended differently.

Bystander apathy is very common.
How many times have we walked passed someone who we assumed was a drunk/tramp sleeping on the floor, they could be dead for all we know. We just keep on walking, what if they are dead? Damn, I'd have to call the police, give a statement, what if they think I was involved, I'd be late for work, what if they're just sleeping I check up on them and they kick off....keep on walking. We've ALL done it.

I hope you are wrong but knowing that some rich sick beings eat live monkey brains, I recon those warped demonic fools would partake in it no problem.
A Godless society is growing faster than ever, no wonder the things of Heaven are going to roll up and away from Earth like a scroll.

If it does exist it would be kept low and private and those attending would be very few and very much into the underworld you would imagine.
