Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
I've just read he wants to fight the Klitschko's. Say it ain't so! I don't even think a Prime Riddick Bowe could beat them, much less a 43 year old one!
....and before you start complaining Riddick Bowe is one of the most overrated heavyweight champions ever.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
I do wonder if Riddick comes back will he still be Riddick 'Big Daddy' Bowe or will he switch his nickname up to be more accurate for example Riddick 'Grandaddy' Bowe ;)
For a guy who never fought a power puncher in his entire career to this point, starting now at 43 years old will be a very bad mistake.
I do wish he would have had more career defining fights, but not now!

Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
Hard to believe that it's 19 years since the first Holyfield fight. I would love to have seen a prime Bowe vs either Klit. I think he may have beaten both :-\

He had a good style to beat Evander, but vs someone like either Klitschko brother Bowe would get demolished. Riddick had height on Evander and yet loved to fight on the inside. Riddick never fought a big puncher, he got floored by Holyfield. Riddick also wasn't known for having a great defense. He didn't fight Lennox Lewis for a reason (he would have got his ass whupped) and the Klitschko's would and will do the same if he could even beat 1 or 2 top 20 heavyweights to earn the title shot to begin with!
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
Tale of the tape
Wladimir: height - 6'6 weight - 244 reach - 81'
Vitali: height - 6'8 weight - 250 reach - 80'
Bowe: height - 6'5 weight - (prime) 235-240 (last fight) 271 reach - 81'
Billy Zumbrun damn near stopped him, and that was in 2005...Billy Zumbrun!!!!
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
If he was scared to fight Lewis and bottled it, then why would he want either of the Klits, ok the Klits aint as deadly as Lewis, but they come a good second, especially in height, reach and power.
Bowe will get sparked by Vitali in 3 and will take cautious Wlad about 9.

This would be the 4th or 5th "comeback" for Bowe, more than likely it's about money, he blew the fortune he'd made from boxing.
He'd be cannon fodder for Wlad or Vitali, plus there's no way he'd be able to get a fight.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
Riddick Bowe has brain damage he shouldn't be anywhere near a ring, and if he's allowed anywhere near a ring it would be a disgrace.

Sadly Bowe has been able to get a boxing license for another "comeback" as recent as 2008, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he could get a license to fight somewhere. But even if he does, there's no way he'll get a fight with a Klitschko bro.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
I will see Bowe tomorrow night at a Pro wrestling show in Hasbrock Heights, New Jersey, which a friend of mine is running. I know he has been talking about another comeback but I hope that's just talk.
The friend is Darren Antola, who is a cutman, and he handles some if not most of Bowes appearances. He told me that he was working on another Bowe and Golota bout, but this time in a wrestling ring in Poland.
-
Riddick nice guy like him loads...but he need not talk about fighting anymore...he missed the boat years ago and just needs to concentrate on his health and family
job biscuit (anyone want to add a clip of him slurring his words after the second Golota fight?)!!!
eh eh!!!
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
This is a great idea. The Klitschkos are overrated, they are just tall guys who weren't good enough for basketball. Anyone from the early 90's or before would whip them, including B-level guys from past eras like Ernie Shavers, Tex Cobb, or Roland LaSarza.
The sad thing is I'm sure some people will read the above and, not only think I'm serious, will agree with me!

It does make you wonder how a man can successfully claim brain damage as a defence in criminal proceedings, yet he can still get licensed to box :-\
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
Damn, for Bowe's sake somebody should take his license from him.
This is boxing though, and if you have a name, you "Can" get big fight's, i sincerely hope this does not happen though.
In his day i would have bet on Big Daddy to beat the Klit's, but not now or ever.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
He will never fight either of the Klischko, it's just an old man dreaming about the past and trying to make it become real. Move on, there's nothing new or special to see here.
-
Riddick's comeback will last about as long as his stint in the Marines.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
He should rematch Billy Zumbrun or have a 3rd fight with Golota in New York.;D

Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
I was with Riddick Bowe tonight and I asked him if he was planning on making a comeback. He said, what else can I do, that is the only thing I know.
I asked him if he was training, he said no at 1st then he said that he just started. I told him that he shouldn't comeback as I didn't want him to end up like some of the others.
So far he has no takers and I hope it stays that way.

I'm not sure exactly just what, but maybe Riddick could, train, promote, manage, et al. Why not do some guest shots on ESPN FNF's things like that, in other words stay active in boxing, just don't fight.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
:biteit: Ahhhh batta batta batta....swing. Nope.
I remember seeing Bowe as the in studio guest host on FNF a year or two ago. It was straight painful and had me wanting to take up tennis.

Pretty bad eh? There must be something Bowe could do in boxing besides fight, that would put some coin in his pocket.

Can only hope so man. Its times like this when a guy who reached THE peak of the sport looks around & wonder's where all of those yes men and hangers on who climbed in the ring and held up his belts went when he forgot how to duck.
Seriously hope to God they don't let him near the ring.

To put it bluntly the man is borderline retarded. Maybe he could make a living as a "spokesman" for pugilistic dementia, otherwise he shouldn't have anything to do with boxing.

Prime Bowe stops both brothers same night.

You'll get no complaints from me; he IS certainly one of the most overrated HWs of all-time.
He's a good fighter & despite him bitching out of fighting Lennox Lewis (whilst insulting Lennox continually:confused:), he does have a big heart, but he was never good enough to beat a Klitschko & he certainly wouldn't be now, fast approaching middle age & weighing the same as a Brachiosaurus as he is these days.

Both brothers would be the biggest power punchers and best pure boxers (Holyfield aside) that Bowe would have ever set foot in a professional ring with.
Bowe was talented, but he never stuck to his game plan when he was under pressure, and he routinely gave up height and reach advantages. Sure he could fight on the inside, but that's more difficult when your opponent ties you up.
I'm certain both brothers not only beat a Prime Bowe, but stop him.
I fear we will see Bowe vs Toney soon

I have to respect the brothers they are dominant champions, But Bowe beat everybody he ever fought so to look at the areas where he was weak and act as though the brothers do not have a lot of weaknesses is silly.
Prime Vitali was stopped in six by an ageing Lewis so lets not overate the brothers I'm not using triangle theories I just think you are overlooking things the Bow. that beat Holyfield not only beats both brothers he destroys them,
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
Bowe has been wobbled in some of his comeback fights against mediocre fighters, this is an accident waiting to happen and Bowe has definitely got some brain damage.

At least you admit Wlad wouldn't have been able to beat him without excessively cheating;) I think Prime Bowe vs Vitali could have gone either way, but as you clearly accept on some level Wlad wouldn't have a chance of living with him on the inside and Bowe did have a chin, that one would only end badly for Wlad imo.
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
Riddick Bowe did have some trouble with fighters, who fought him on outside though. Tyrell Biggs was giving him fits and rocked him. An aging Tony Tubbs was unlucky not to get the nod over Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield outboxed him in the rematch.
And Andrew Golota tortured Riddick Bowe on the outside twice, yes Riddick Bowe was past his best then. But i think Andrew Golota troubles him at anytime in his career. And Andrew Golota had the same stand up jab right hand style that the Klitschko brothers have.
But then again Wladimir Klitschko has been troubled, by lesser fighters and Ko'ed aswell by lesser fighters. And Vitali Klitschko is untested against many top quality Heavyweights, the only real good Heavyweight's he's fought was Lennox Lewis. Although you could argue Sanders, Byrd.

What's the matter with tying up? Tyson did it, Ali did it, Lewis did it. ALL GREAT CHAMPIONS BEND OR BREAK THE RULES: Joe Louis is the ONLY great fighter I can think of that didn't have something he did that is considered cheating. Rocky Marciano used his forearms, he hit people when they were already down, Ali backhanded his jab and hung on the necks of his opponents, Lennox Lewis held and hit, Mike Tyson did in number of "dirty tricks"....why hate on Wlad, why single him out?
Riddick Bowe never would have lived with either of the Klitschko's in a match....in his prime or right now. It's not like Riddick: is difficult to hit, had all that much power to begin with, or had a great chin. The reason the fights with Holyfield were good was because Evander didn't have much power, he liked to fight on the inside (Bowe obliged him), and Evander's workrate pushed Bowe. Do you not think Wlad could school Bowe the way Golota did except without the low blows? Perhaps you don't realize how Bowe got dominated by Andrew Golota TWICE!

Officially he didn't beat everyone he ever fought. Bowe hit and knocked out Buster Mathis Jr. while he was on his knees, so they called it a No Contest.
I talked to one of his agents yesterday and he wants him to do something in Pro Wrestling, like Louis, Galento and Carnera did, or just have him act as a body guard.

Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
That wouldn't be a terrible idea for the guy. He was a fun fighter to watch and all, he brought drama to the ring, and was in some very controversial fights: Tillery, The Holyfield Trilogy including the Fan-Man fight, and the 2 fights vs Andrew "The Foul Pole" Golota.
It would have been interesting in he fought Tommy Morrison at one time as I assume it would have been a back and forth slugfest. Mike Tyson would have been a great match up for him, Donovan Ruddock, and of course Lennox Lewis....it's a shame he missed out on all of those, he had a great career, but almost no meaningful fights and there was plenty for him to choose from!
Perhaps Bowe could get into training or something.
I don't want to see him fight the Klitschko's simply because its a horrible mismatch, hell everyone saw what happened to a fresher Shannon Briggs, dude got put in the hospital!

THe glaring difference is all of those guys would tie up while still trying to inflict punishment on their opponents, and it wasn't the ONLY thing they could do on the inside, it was part of their offensive in large part. Wlad is THE heavyweight champion and all he can do on when someone gets in close is hug them for dear life, that's why I single him out. It serves no purpose other than to buy him time and space from the ref(which it shouldn't) because he can't fight on the inside worth shit. I think Bowe would have pummeled him in his prime, which was well before he met Golota, and I don't have Riddick Bowe posters in my bedroom either:rolleyes:.

Mike Tyson would tie up on the inside a lot because #1 it gave him a chance to forearm smash his opponent in the throat or headbutt #2 He would tie up because the referee would then break them giving Tyson a fresh start to work his way in as his style was not made for going backward this was an important strategy, Wladimir's doing so is damn near identical to what Tyson did. Grab ahold, walk them to the ropes, ref breaks you, and bang it's like the start of a new round...strategy man, strategy. Did Tyson work on the inside? Sure, but he didn't walk straight in, if he got caught out of position or moved out of position he'd either circle, allow his opponent to circle out, or he'd tie them up. Wlad gets out of position on the inside so why shouldn't he tie up? It's a smart move and people only complain about it because he wins fights easily.
As for Bowe, he could barely handle Biggs do you rate Tyrell Biggs better than the Klitschko's?
-
Re: Riddick Bowe comeback?!?!
I complain about it because it's nasty to watch and he does it excessively, I have no bias for or against Wlad just don't really enjoy watching him fight. I feel he doesn't utilize his physical tools to nearly the extent that he could. Haven't even seen Bowe fight Biggs maybe I'll watch that. I rate Riddick Bowe higher than Lamon Brewster though, are you going to say he couldn't have beaten that Wlad, etc? Almost all fighters have bad nights and Bowe especially was terribly inconsistent and lazy in training. In the few times he did show up really motivated during his peak I feel he would've been way to much for Wlad is all.
